The music in this CD is amazing. I love the music of Rent and I recommend it to a mature audience, but anyone who love musicals and just a good story. :)

The movie was great - until you hear Rosario Dawson sing. Absolutely terrible performance. The original soundtrack is just so much better.

Alright, when I was going into the theatre to see the RENT movie, I was expecting to hate it. I am always fussy to any little changes, and I was ready to trash it mercilessly. To my surprise, I rather enjoyed it. However, it simply wasn't as good as the OBC. Even the original cast members were not as good. The fact is that Rosario Dawson isn't much of a singer. In all honesty, neither is Daphne Rubin-Vega, but she perfectly fit the role of Mimi and sounded beautiful against Adam Pascal. Rosario was too strong and clashed with the rest of the cast. On the contrary, Adam seemed to be breathless the whole time. This is apparent in "One Song Glory" especially. Idina Menzel was lovely as always, but "Over the Moon" was a complete mess. It was boring and so many notes seemed wrong, particulary the final "leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeap of faith". Anthony Rapp, however, seemed to have less of that...well...odd tone that he had in the OBC and his solo album "Look Around". Unhappily, that odd tone seemed to have been passed onto Wilson Jermaine Heredia. I do love Wilson, but...with this performance, he would not have won the Tony. Tracy Thoms is a good singer, but didn't have the right feel for Joanne. Fredi Walker was my favorite of the original cast though, so maybe I'm biased. The best of the bunch was probably Taye Diggs, who was as good or better than his performance in the OBC. Unfortunately, many of his parts were cut out! All in all, the OMC was fairly good, but I cannot see how people can truly fall in love with it like the OBC. (Now I feel bad for not mentioning Jesse L. Martin! I love him! There's just not much to say! Except...well...is it me or is his voice deeper on here than the OBC? It's probably just my oddness imagining things.)

This story is about hypocracy and intolerance of some and love for those who "fit" into the molds we make. One of the characters is rebuffed by a homeless person in the same way that he later rebuffs a job offer. The group becomes intolerant of one of it's own who persues his dream and instead of working together to help the homeless the two groups fight and argue. It's a story about every person on the planet and while the movie is different then the play they are both terrific.

Okay!! Let me say I was happy to hear that most of the orginal cast of rent was coming back for the movie. I was dissapointed to find out that Rosario Dawson was going to play the part of Mimi. I really wanted Daphne Vega to repise her role. Rosario Dawson cannot register the High notes like she can. I dont think anyone can. But I would just get the soundtrack to hear the other orginal cast members. They all sound incredible.

As a "Rent Head", I expected some big improvements on the stellar Original Broadway Cast Album. Some of it succeeds (Rosario Dawson is a HUGE improvement over Daphne Rubin-Vega), but most of it lacks the urgency and energy of the OBCA. It's still an enjoyable listen, however, and there are several standouts, including Dawson's take on "Out Tonight". But I was totally blown away by Tracie Thoms! I only previously knew her as a funny comedian and the hilarious sidekick on "Wonderfalls", but I now know her as a phenomenal vocalist. Speaking of phenomenal, Idina Menzel is as amazing as ever (although I had to wonder if the producers asked her pull back a bit on "Over the Moon" as it is not as exciting as on the OBCA). The duet between Menzel and Thoms ("Take Me or Leave Me") is a definite showstopper.

Of course it's slightly different than the Broadway version, but it's fantastic. The music seems more current..fuller. I like having 2 versions of the same musical to choose from. And I think, 10 years later, you can hear the maturity and confidence in the performances of those cast members reprising their roles - in particular, Anthony Rapp, Idina Menzel, Jesse L. Martin and Adam Pascal. Again...LOVE IT!

Rent is one of the best movie ever made. It has true character. It has a great cast but also has a great story line. It is about poor people who are living day to say with HIV and Aids. It taught poeple to apperciate life. Whatever is wrong with your life there is probably someone out there who has a worst life. So it was truly a great movie.

While many people are very used to the Original Broadway Cast, and even partial to it, I feel that this album is better. All of the vocalists have improved a great deal, except Anthony Rapp who is still as good and lovable as ever. The new Joanne and Mimi are fantastic, much better then the original ones. The artists also didn't get stuck into their old habits, but took the liberty to change things. There are new harmonies that make the ears tingle, especially the ones between Adam Pascal and Rosario Dawson. The Limited edition CD covers also make them quite enjoyable to collect. My friends and I are trying to hunt down all of them, although we're having quite a hard time finding Mark and Roger.

I absolutely love the original RENT soundtrack, and was disappointed that the vocalists went out of their way to sing the songs differently than they originally had, when the original soundtrack left little to be improved upon. The resulting sound, while still enjoyable, can, at times, sound slightly like an amateur experimenting with different rhythms, and while you can't really accuse the newcomers (non-OBC) of being "affected" in their singing, they try much too hard to carve their own way and be different. If you're only going to buy one CD, buy the OBC CD, but this is still a decent recording.

RENT was such an amazingly good heartbreaking story of true friendship and love. I would strongly recomend having parental supervision while watching RENT because this movie is rather inappropriate for anyone under 13.

The soundtrack is really awesome. I'm a really big fan of Rent. The music is awesome. I really enjoy listening to it. I sing to it all the time and love acting out the parts and what not. It's cool and fun and great

It just isn't as good as the original soundtrack. For some reason what made the original powerful and raw is just not there on this album. I have seen the show multiple times and I have the sountrack memorized and this just doens't cut it for me.

I'm not sure that the other reviewer's listened to the same album I did. Sure the Original Broadway Soundtrack is great, but this is too! This recording is just as powerful and moving. No one should expect a 100% match to the original cast album, heck, it's been a few years. Some of the changes are improvements to the original. Although I was skeptical of Rosario Dawson at first, she immediately won me over. This album is a perfect 10. I can't wait for the movie to be released.

This soundtrack is AMAZING! i love it soo much more than the OBC its more emotional and the original members (idina, adam, anthony, etc.) bring more richness into there roles and emotion into their song. I think that Tracie and Rosario were amazing replacements for daphne and fredi! I really recommend both the movie soundtrack and the OBC soundtrack they are both AMAZING!

then you will have trouble listening to this soundtrack from the movie. The order of songs, voices and occasionally tunes, are extremely different. It contains all the great songs, just not great quality.

I liked this cd somewhat. If you enjoyed the movie, the soundtrack is well worth the purchase. But, the soundtrack of the original Broadway play is much better. I would reccommend the original Broadway Cast recording over the movie soundtrack.

I dont know if anyone here actually has seen the Broadway show, or knows what it is to be in a musical, but you rarely ever sing the show exactly the same everytime. And also, there were changes made to the show after the OBC recording. These changes are reflected in this recording. This is a film, not a stage version of Rent. The two are totally different and will sound different. And in my own humble opinion Rosario Dawson is so much better than Daphine Rubin-Vega. I actually hated "Out Tonight" till I saw it on Broadway and saw someone else sing it. I am not a Rubin-Vega fan. I thought that she was the weak link in the OBC. This recording has alot of power and passion, just like the OBC recording. That recording was theatre, and this recording is film, that is your difference.

It's not as great as the original Broadway cast but it is still amazing! I recommend it to anyone who is a "Renthead."

This album deffinetly brings a new light to the musical Rent! This album does bring new musical sounds to the songs, however I believe this album brings more acting within the songs than the original. Keep in mind that when the original cast had begun they were still piecing things together due to dear Larson's death without finishing the story. By now the story has been developed and will be different in some way. I would definetly recommend this CD to everyone!

In going to see RENT, I had no idea what to expect. Needless to say I was pretty blown away by it all, and it is now one of my favorite movies, if not my favorite. The music is a reflection of this and I prefer it to the OBC, as I think it is richer and sang with more emotion. Examples of this are found in song like, "One Song Glory", "Rent", and "I Should Tell You". I thought Roger was AMAZING!!! As was Angel, and Mimi too. This is one of my favorite CDs, and I listen to it all the time!!!

The soundtrack of "Rent" is wonderful. I reccommend it to everyone. Although I have never had much experience with the OBC, this recording is fabulous. I love it.
