Dogs + Romance = A Fantastic Read! Felice Stevens is a new author and I loved her writing style. I was hooked on page one and stayed hooked to the end. This a m/m romance full of love and discovery and I enjoyed every minute. Ryder and Jason have a chemistry that sparks on the pages. It is a joy to read two characters build a relationship built on trust, friendship, honesty and love. Don’t get me wrong this book is not all rainbows and butterflies there is quite a bit of drama and that is what makes this a great read. Ms. Stevens does not shy away from the hurt and real issues that many couples deal with. I won’t give anything away but there are moment in this book where the emotional is so raw you will have tears in your eyes and you will need a tissue. Let’s not forget this book is not only about romance between people but loving puppies! It was great to read a story that focused on an issue close to my heart dog rescues. I am so excited to read more from this author!

I picked up this book because what could be better than men and dogs? I'm glad I took a chance on this one! The two main characters, Ryder and Jason, are the perfect combination of sexy and sensitive in their own ways. They have incredible chemistry, and I love how the author didn't just rush into an emotional connection between them. They were dealing with their own issues, and I thought that was very nicely done, for the most part. I also like the juxtaposition of both men having very different families, and I loved reading their interactions with the people in their lives. I did end up feeling like Ryder's mom was a bit over-the-top. Obviously, there are people like her in real life, but she came across as more of a caricature. But I loved the realism of Ryder being cut off from his family; that happens all too often. The one thing that really put me off (and made me give this fewer stars than I think it actually should have) was how the author treated Jason's coming out. She used nearly every tired theme possible to avoid having him be bisexual: The college "experiment"; the nasty ex-girlfriend; the not-gay-til-I-met-you; and the absolutely never, ever noticing any other men except Ryder (and going on and on about his hotness and how everyone else wanted him too). In fact, another character even remarks on it, and Jason completely denies the possibility that he's bisexual--as though it makes him "better" somehow to be gay. It bothers me at a deep level because having genuinely bisexual men in m/m romance is rare, and writers go to great lengths to avoid it. It may not have been intentional on this author's part, but I'm saddened that such a fantastic story was spoiled by not allowing a more natural scenario. The other thing I noticed, but didn't really feel was too much of an issue, since the romance/hot sex were kind of the point of the story, was that there wasn't all that much conflict and it was wrapped up neatly at the end. That doesn't bother me at all, but anyone looking for more complex drama and conflict might not like it. That aside, I loved the story, loved the characters, and look forward to reading more from Ms. Stevens. I give it 4 stars. I was given this in return for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads. Amy

Ryder & Jason meet and have immediate attraction. Among the shared interests, are the cute puppies who need love. Ryder no longer has the patience for someone who is really not into him. His last relationship was enough. Jason cannot help how he feels. He also feels like he never tell anyone how he really feels. Every time he thinks he can, he chickens out. Is what he feels for Ryder enough to give him the strength? This story was very entertaining. It also had moments where it felt kind of slow. The family aspect was amazing and I hope we see more of this in later series books. The characters were an interesting mix and felt like opposites attract.

~~3.5 stars- A heaping cup of sugar~~ Rescued is a revised re-release of Miss Steven’s debut novel. I didn’t read the original, so I can’t comment on the editing or new material, but this is a great lower angst, sweet romance featuring good characters. The narration of the audiobook was smooth and kept with the easy going, enjoyable tone of the story. The heroes in Rescued meet through a pit bull rescue organization. Their attraction is immediate though stifled by the men’s cynical views of love and relationships. The dogs and rescue center play a significant role in the story, and that made for an interesting touch dog lovers are sure to enjoy. Ryder and Jason were both very likable throughout the book. They had bad experiences in the past that made them a bit nervous about entering a long term relationship, but this hesitation was overcome fairly rapidly. In fact, the bulk of the conflicts that rose between Ryder and Jason as well as those involving secondary characters were fairly low-key. While Rescued has some characteristics of a gay-for-you romance, it’s less that and more Jason recognizing and embracing his bisexuality following his strong, immediate connection with Ryder. I appreciated that the author spread their friendship which evolved into a romance over a couple months, because it made Jason’s acceptance of his attraction and burgeoning feelings for Ryder much more believable. However, I wished the audience had gotten to experience the build of emotions a bit more. I think by glossing over these moments, it kept the angst to a minimum but also coated the romance with an abundance of sweetness. Though I appreciated the easy fit of this couple, at times it got a little too syrupy for my personal preferences. I did enjoy the contrasting family reactions to the men coming out and liked the way the couple approached conflicts as a united front, embracing the friends and family who loved and supported them unconditionally. Happily, this wasn’t the type of sweet romance that shies away from the heat. I was pleasantly surprised at just how sexy the scenes between Ryder and Jason got. It made for a nice balance- sort of like a delicious chili chocolate. Overall, this was an enjoyable audiobook with genuinely nice characters, a cute romance, and a solid performance by the narrator. Was I blown away, not really, but it definitely injected some happy into my day. Should you be in need of a sugar high that also boasts a good storyline and some heat, Rescued is a good choice. *Reviewed audiobook for Alpha Book Club*

I'll start by saying that I had not read the earlier edition of Rescued so I can't speak as too just how much revision there is but I cannot imagine this story any different than it is right now. Felice Stevens has done it again and this time their names are Jason and Ryder. I really enjoyed not only Jason and Ryder's journey but also that of their relationships with, or lack therof, their brothers. It isn't always easy to balance the main characters' loving relationship with familial connections so when an excellent one comes along, it really grabs my heart. If you have never read Felice Stevens before and wondering where to start? I highly recommend Rescued as a great jumping off point.

There is, in my mind, nothing better than reading an author's debut novel. Getting the opportunity to hear a new voice is a very exciting thing. I'm thrilled to be able to say that Felice Stevens caught my attention within just a few pages. I'm not talking about the story arc, I'm talking about the writing, the ebb and flow of her words, the syntax, and the dialogue. It was immediately apparent, to me, that I was going to enjoy this maiden voyage. I absolutely adored Ryder from the moment he appeared. He's had it rough and he's so sad in the beginning. Ryder hasn't seen or spoken to his parents in three months and some days the only thing keeping him sane is his calls and texts with his little brother, Landon. But the chilling call from his mother on the day of thanks, and then his subsequent discovery that she's blocked him from contacting Landon, is almost too much. After being burned pretty badly, twice, Ryder has no intention of ever falling in love again. He has been single for a year, and if it wasn't for his rescued pit bull, Pearl, he doesn't think he'd make it. Ryder, along with his best friends, Connor and Emily, make up the legal heart and soul of Rescue Me, a pit bull rescue which Connor and Emily started. Ryder handles the legal issues, along with Connor, and he also does rescues. Jason, on the other hand, has been dating a girl for three years and he feels las though he's in a rut. She has no interest in anything other than looking pretty and spending her daddy's money. Jason and his brother are still getting their construction company off the ground and Jason is starting to wonder if any of it is worth it. When she throws the marriage ultimatum at him, Jason says enough is enough. He's done with relationships for awhile and he's not going to listen to the little voice in his head or the memory of a secret desire he keeps pushing down. After Ryder and Jason meet over the rescue of abused dogs, they slowly become friends, with Ryder hanging at the neighborhood bar with Jason, his brothers, and his friends. When Ryder's mother once again steps in and takes away any chance Ryder has of spending time with his brother, he's devastated. He gets drunk at the bar that night and Jason drives him home. Much to both of their surprise, some kissing and making out happens, but Ryder pushes Jason away. Ryder is tired of always being second choice and he's certainly not going to get involved with a straight guy. But Jason isn't completely straight. Certainly not when he's having dreams about Ryder, and Jason isn't about to give up on these feelings. Of course, coming out can have a lot of repercussions that neither of them counted on. What a wonderful book! Yes, the story was a little predictable, however, I'll read a slightly predictable story from this new author any day over established writers. Felice Stevens really captured the emotion in a way that struck me as realistic and helped me to enjoy this book even more. The animal rights portion hit home for me and, more than anything, I loved the epilogue. Excellent job, Felice! I'm looking forward to reading more by you. Book: Rescued Author: Felice Stevens Stars: 5 stars Felice Stevens is that author I know I can go to to get that lovey dovey mushy stuff with a side of angst. It's the perfect combination to make you smile and your heart to feel full. I read the original Rescued when it first came out and loved it then but Felice has expanded and given us even more of Ryder, Jason, and the pups! Who wouldn’t want that? There is a lot to love about this book! Ryder working through his issues with his family was the hardest part. He loved his brother so much they just needed each other especially when they were the only two that they could rely on in their disconnected family. Jason was stuck in a crappy relationship even when everything else in his life seemed to be going so great. Well, that problem was easily fixed and now it’s time for him to move on. LIttle did he or anyone else know that the friendship he builds with Ryder ends up being more. But these two guys compliment each other so well that it’s like a perfect balance. From Ryder’s cautious heart to Jason’s I-got-this attitude. They both end up dealing with some family issues and lean on each other to get through it but it’s all the relationship stuff that they need to trust each other on. I loved the secondary characters who were well developed and played the part they should supporting the MC’s allowing us the reader further ways to get to know them. The stars of the story, alongside Ryder and Jason, are their wonderful pups Pearl and trouper! Highly recommend and can’t wait for more! 1 like ·

All in all this was apretty good read. The main characters had good chemistry but some of the dialogue was a little corny and stilted. I would say the lasr rhird of the book didnt flow as well as the first part but it was way better than some ive read.
