Rescued Hearts by Hope Toler Dougherty

Children's clothing designer Mary Wade Kimball's soft spot for animals leads to a hostage situation when she spots a briar- entangled kitten in front of an abandoned house. Beaten, bound, and gagged by the two thugs inside, Mary Wade loses hope for escape when a third villain returns with supplies.

Discovering the kidnapped woman ratchets the complications for undercover agent Brett Davis. Weighing the difference of ruining his three months' investigation against the woman's safety, Brett forsakes his mission and helps her escape, the bent-on-revenge brutes following behind.

When Mary Wade's safety is threatened once more, Brett rescues her again. This time, her personal safety isn't the only thing in jeopardy. Her heart is endangered as well.

4.9 When Mary Wade Kimball stops to help an entangled kitten, she's pulled into the nearby abandoned house. Bound and gagged, she worries she will never escape when the leader of her two assailants returns from the store. When Brett Davis discovers the kidnapped woman, he has a decision to make. He can allow this woman to be hurt, or he can throw three months of undercover work out of the window and get her out of there. But what will happen when the other two men give chase? And what do they do with the growing attraction between them? I was very pleasantly surprised by this novel. The story pulled me in so that I couldn't wait to pick up the book again. It's mostly clean, with a few heated kisses and a couple of close calls with Mary at the hands of one of her assailants, but not vulgar by any stretch. There's also a great focus on leaning on God's strength. I definitely suggest this novel.

Wow, just by trying to help an animal in stress Mary Wade Kimball finds herself in a lot of trouble. "Rescued Hearts" by Hope Toler Dougherty is a story that will keep you at the edge of your seat. She has been tied up and beaten and has no hope of escape. She realizes just how lucky she is when she finds out that one of the men is actually an undercover agent. He has no choice but to help her. Brett will have to help her again before she will really be safe. Will they start to have feelings for each other? Will they ever be safe? I give this book a 5/5. I was given this book and these are my opinions.

3.5 stars First I have to say that Gigi wins this book. I adore Brett’s grandma!!! What a fun character! But she’s also the source of many of the most meaningful moments in the book too. She softens some of the rough patches, adds some humor when needed, and brings warmth and affection to both Brett and Mary Wade’s characters. To be honest, I have a difficult time deciding what sort of novel this is. While it’s what I consider a light romantic suspense, it does have its darker moments as well. Though nothing explicit occurs, readers who have experienced sexual trauma may find the implication of impending harm in a couple of scenes difficult to read. There are some surprisingly sensual undertones too (not inappropriately so but not what I was expecting). The tone sort-of shifts throughout, as though the novel itself isn’t quite sure what it wants to be either. Combined with some plot points that seem to be abandoned – or come out of nowhere – and some minor spelling/grammar/perspective issues in the finished copy, it lends a bit of a scattered feel to the overall reading experience. That said, though, the story itself is sweet and romantic & the author’s writing voice draws you in like a new friendship. The things I mentioned only detract a little from one’s enjoyment of the plot and the characters. Bottom Line: If you’re looking for warm characters with some high-stakes suspense and a heartfelt truth of resting in the fact that you are loved just as you are… Rescued Hearts needs to be on your TBR pile! It will keep you guessing as well as holding your breath to see if the characters survive those who want them dead. And then there’s Gigi… Audrey Hepburn with a gun and a penchant for matchmaking. Have I mentioned yet that she’s my favorite? lol (I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)

Poor Mary Wade Kimball, she put her heart and soul into everything that comes into her life despite what her parents wish. She has longed to make the world a better place and leave her mark on it, designing children's clothes especially for the poor and needy as well as helping out in the churches ministries whenever she can, she is headed home from doing something for herself, a pedicure, when she finds a tuxedo kitten stuck in a honeysuckle bush. In her attempt to free it, she herself becomes the victim. She never expected that her willingness to help might lead her into danger. Now she finds herself kidnapped and dragged into a nearby home and no one really will know she is missing for quite some time. She had offered to house sit for her godmother Agnes in hopes that a change of pace and scenery might mend her broken heart. She found her boyfriend taking another woman on a date when she believed they were exclusive. That's what she gets for thinking one thing without actually confirming anything. Now she needs to figure a way out before these men decide that their boring days and night in an abandoned home might just need a fun way to relax. There doesn't seem to be a way out, until a third man, Doc, arrives and discovers that his two accomplices have further complicated their drug and trafficking plan by kidnapping a local woman. As he takes her into the back room, Mary Wade believes it is for one reason and she will try with all her might to fight her way out. Lucky for her she discovers that "Doc" is an undercover deputy who has agreed to help her escape and keep her safe if she is willing to trust him. What other choice does she have and soon it will time to do the unthinkable and truly run for her life. Brett Davis, knows that his job may be on the line if he decides to help Mary Wade, but he also knows what plans Dusty and Skeet have in mind and he isn't about to stand around and do nothing. So in the middle of the night, they make a run for Agnes's home less than a mile away. Brett knows that Dusty and Skeet will stop at nothing to find them both and for them things are about to get even more complicated than ever before. I received Rescued Hearts by Hope Toler Dougherty compliments of Mantle Rock Publishing and Litfuse Publicity. I have to say even though this is a full length novel I was so glued to it, I finished it before I knew it. I love the chemistry between Brett and Mary Wade and even the secondary characters like the noisy neighbor and Brett's grandmother add even more charm to the story line. Just when things are seeming like they are settling down, the action gets even more intense. I don't want to spoil it for you so I will leave things there and recommend this novel to anyone who loves a great mystery suspense! I give this one a 5 out of 5 stars in my opinion.

My favorite kind of book. A romantic suspense. I was intrigued by the description. My favorite kind of read. I wasn't disappointed! I loved every minute. There was something about this book that I just couldn't put my finger on. I did no research. I just kept thinking I had read something else by this author and then it dawned on me! I went to my book shelf and found Mars With Venus Rising. And I found my 5 star review on my blog. I remember when I read the book last spring how I hoped there would be a series. I was a little disappointed not to see more. Hint. Hint. But am I glad that Miss Dougherty has been busy elsewhere. Rescued Hearts is hard to describe. It is difficult to speak to how good this book is. I love a thriller. I really love a super clean thriller. This is what you get. I was captivated and taken in from the description and then right on to page one and all the way to the end! I am excitedly anticipating what Hope throws at us next time! I received a complimentary copy from Litfuse.

Hope Dougherty has written a book with non-stop action, and quickly found myself page turning, and wondering when the next shoe is going to drop. Just when you think things are about to calm down, nope, we are off, and you never know what is around the next corner. What does an innocent bike ride, with a kitten rescue have to do with an undercover detective? You are going to find out real quick, and those that captured Mary Wade don’t give up very easily, and the rescuer Brett Davis seems to get in trouble for helping, maybe not. I loved the detectives Grandmother, Gigi, what a delight, and even though obstacles are thrown all over the place, and threats and danger, bullets, slashed tires, frogs, etc. you have to wonder if these two will survive, never mind end up together. A very entertaining read. I received this book through Litfuse Publicity Book Tours, and was not required to give a positive review.

I was impressed with this book from the beginning. Hope grabs her audience by getting her heroine, Mary Wade, kidnapped right off the bat, while rescuing a cat to beat all, and with a hurricane headed her way. Then the knight in shining armor, undercover cop, Brett Davis, saves the day by rescuing her. But the excitement doesn't end there. That is just the beginning of a tale that will keep you reading. There are various twists throughout the book that ad suspense and adventure along the way, sprinkled with a dash of romance. One of the things that resonated with me was Mary Wade's online shop and booth at a craft warehouse. I enjoyed reading about her children's designs, because I too love to sew, want an online shop and have set up at craft shows. Mary Wade is looking for the ideal man with a nine to five schedule after having grown up in a home with a mostly absent father. She also struggles with living up to her parents expectations and being a people pleaser, which was something else I could relate to. Brett Davis, is the all time, hero, man of the hour, always coming to her rescue, and as most heroes - handsome with silver eyes. They have some humorous battles stemming from both of their stubbornness and need to control the situations at hand. The only thing I really didn't enjoy as much about the story was the last three chapters. It kind of felt like they were just thrown in there to add length to the book. They may have fit in better had the characters been introduced earlier or at least had some kind of set-up without just a random appearance toward the end of the book. Personally for me, that kind of took away from the story instead of adding to it. Overall though, I would definitely recommend this book, preferably to more mature readers due to some content referring the kidnapping and rape. I was blessed with a copy of this book by the author and Litfuse Publicity. I was not required to review positively and all opinions are my own.

I have a book hangover. Yep, stayed up late and got up early reading this one and did not want to put it down. Rescued Hearts by Hope Toler Dougherty is the first book I have read by this author, and her other two have just been added to my wish list. I enjoyed this story so much: the danger, intrigue, sparks flying romance, the banter between the characters, the chemistry between the hero and heroine. Yep, I enjoyed all of it except that it is over: but what a story and one for the reread shelf. This book started out with a very scary situation that could have really ended badly, but in walks a hero that saves the day. Both Brett and Mary Wade (an interesting first name that consists of two names) are immediately drawn together once the danger subsides a bit, but both have been hurt by various people in various situations, not just romantic. I liked how the author filled us in on both of their back stories as they opened up bit by bit each day they were forced together. Brett was the knight in shining armor. He was very protective and tried so hard to even protect Mary Wade from himself. And Mary Wade? Well, even though she was in a vulnerable situation in her life and life was not looking to good at the moment, she certainly held her own. This is definitely an inspirational story and both characters relied on their faith in God to get them through very realistically. There were some intense scenes that had me biting my nails and flipping through the pages. I could almost feel the bruises myself. Bottom line, I really got lost in this story and I was a happy, happy reader. I am looking forward to reading the author’s other stories. Looks like one is set in Ireland- oh be still my heart. I received a copy of this book for free. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

Rescued Hearts is the second book that I have read by Hope Toler Dougherty. As much as I enjoyed the first book that I read, I liked this one even more. Much like Mars...with Venus Rising, Rescued Hearts has some quirky, lovable characters, but with the new addition of suspense. With the crafty blending of crime and romance and the utilization of characters that are like people you might have in your life, the author created a story that was very enjoyable. The story pulled me in and had me wanting to read any free minute, so as to see what happened next. Unfortunately, as Mary Wade found her spaces invaded and questions about their safety arose, I was home alone with the kids while my husband was traveling. Not an ideal time to read such a suspenseful tale; proof positive that the story was realistic. It had me wondering how many people have inadvertently found themselves in danger as a result of a self-less act of trying to rescue an animal (or a person). Fortunately, Mary Wade discovered an inner-strength and was able to draw on her faith to find the hope necessary to help get her through. A complimentary review copy was provided, all opinions expressed are my own.

This was a nice story with a sweet romance in the midst of some suspenseful situations. It was not an edge-of-the-seat page turner for me, but I did enjoy the romance between Mary Wade and Brett. "Rescued Hearts" by author Hope Toler Dougherty is a must read for anyone who has ever saved an animal and not stopped to think about getting hurt themselves. Mary Wade Kimball loves all animals, and that is what leads her right into a lot of problems both good and bad. When she is seen and caught by 2 men while trying to save a kitten her problems begin. She is tied up and beaten and starts to think that she will never be free. While she is being held a third man shows up and Mary Wade really thinks she is going to die. Brett Davis is not what he seems, or is he? Mary Wade will have to be strong and keep her faith and hope through her ordeal. Will she be strong enough? I give this book a 5/5. I was given this book for a review by Litfuse publicity Group and all opinions are mine.
