Rescuing Wendy (Delta Force Heroes Series #8) by Susan Stoker

Aspen "Blade" Carlisle is the last of his Delta Force team to find love...and he's pretty bummed about that fact. Which might explain why he finds himself chatting up a telemarketer as if she's a long-lost friend. But Wendy is surprisingly easy to talk to, so when they go from occasional calls during her work, to nightly conversations on their cells, it somehow feels right. So right, Blade eventually convinces the funny, sweet woman to meet him in person.

When their first face-to-face meeting gets high-jacked, Wendy Tucker is sure she and Aspen made a big mistake in taking their relationship to the next level. But the man is nothing if not persistent. Before long, Wendy's allowing the handsome soldier to spend more time with her and Jack, the teen brother she's raising, than anyone she's ever dated. Though she knows there are limits to how close she can get to Aspen, no matter how much she likes him. Limits carefully constructed to protect Wendy and Jack from a past they've been running from for years.

But dating Blade means having an entire team of Deltas at her back. Which may come in handy not just with Wendy's past...but also when her brother faces a current threat.

**Rescuing Wendy is the 8th book in the Delta Force Heroes Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

Wendy and Jackson lost their parents way too early in life. Protecting and caring for her young brother has been her whole world for the last ten years. Deception has kept them together all this time, but when Wendy meets a man who makes her want a relationship, the lifetime spent protecting her brother makes it difficult to open up and trust another even though she may have met the most honorable man out there. Can she entrust their secrets and lives to Blade, the last single man of his Delta team? I really enjoyed this look at how issues of trust, misunderstandings, worry, and mistakes in rendering help can effect relationships. While the team does not deal with formal organized terrorists in this story it does look at the more common threat of domestic gangs/bullies and lone wolf violent attacks. I think this was one of the best books in this genre that I have read this year.

I couldn't put this book down! I have not read a Susan Stoker book that I haven't loved. This book follows Aspen & "Blade" Carlisle and Wendy Tucker who meet when she calls him from her telemarketing job. They connect right away and talk on the phone until Blade suggests meeting. Let's just say its rocky. We know our Delta Force men don't give up easily and that's exactly what Blade does to convince Wendy that them meeting and spending time together isn't a mistake. They definitely have chemistry which jumps right off of the pages. Wendy is keeping a secret and even though she knows she can't get too close to Blade, he's spending time with not only her but her brother Jack, who she is raising. There are so many questions that come up during this book like can they survive her secret? can they deal with the bullies Jack is having problems with? Plus theres a whole new part to the Mary & Truck story we are all dying to read! The last like 15% of the book makes you wish that it was already October so you can read the next part. You won't be able to put this book down until it's finished.

I really loved the concept of this story, the getting to know you before meeting builds a nice solid friendship and base to then meet and move it on. I also loved Wendy and not just because I share a name with her, she is strong though a bit shy, determined to make a good life for her and her brother. Aspen is calm, most of the time, protective and very loving. He loves his team members and his sister, is a little jealous that they have now all paired up and would like the same for himself. The build up to discovering secrets is suspenseful as is the other part of this story. A few twists in here as well to rock the boat a bit, which keeps it interesting and edgy. Another fantastic book from Susan Stoker to add to her list of awesome reads, I am always waiting for these books to release, pre order is a must for me and is clicked as soon as I see the next one come up. Not a story to miss!

What can I say about this but it was a fantastic read! This series is one of my favorites so I have been looking forward to Blade's story. Although Ms. Stoker does set up the readers for the final book in the series, she did not detract from Blade and Wendy's story. I loved how they met and how strong Wendy has had to be to take care of her brother this way. For anyone that has read any of Ms. Stoker's books, you know she likes to run her leading lady through the gauntlet. I loved the twist she did with this story. I don't want to give away any spoilers so I'll leave it with this message. Read it. You won't be disappointed. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I was given this book in turn for an honest review. One telemarketing call can change everything, so it seems. Blade is desperate to see the woman behind the voice; however, Wendy is scared to break the magic. Can Wendy be open and honest with Blade, or will her past change everything? Susan Stoker has written a seriously brilliant story, that although it gives the heroine and hero a different spin compared to many of her other books, it isn’t lacking action, suspense, or romance; it does however, have a huge shock factor, that even shocked me. This story builds up a lot of anticipation to the final book in the series Rescuing Mary, although on some level this book can still be read as a standalone. I love the angle this story takes with Blade and Wendy’s story, it was a refreshing change and it didn’t take away from Susan Stoker’s unique writing style. She brings the characters to life, almost as if you are watching their story unfold on screen rather than on the pages. Blade was a strong, caring, and patient man. He never pushed Wendy and he was always open about his feelings and true intentions. Wendy was a slightly more complex character, and I found myself constantly guessing what her background story was. The relationship she had with her brother shared was an unbreakable one, Wendy had truly given her life to care for him and it was clear how much he appreciated her sacrifices. If you have been reading the Delta Force Heroes series, you will have likely been awaiting Truck’s story, the next book in the series. Blade’s story builds up a lot of tension regarding Truck and Mary’s story, and wow, Susan Stoker did amazing! If you love reading military romances, I highly recommend the Delta Force Heroes series, and would suggest you read them in ordering starting with book #1, Rescuing Rayne.

Our heroine Wendy has a different kind of problem than the other women in this series. Not to say it isn't as formidable, just different. Working two jobs to support her and her brother, she gets to know Aspen aka Blade while cold calling as a telemarketer. From the first time Blade speaks to her he knows she's different somehow and they now speak often. He however is ready to take this relationship to the next level. He wants to meet in person, in public of course so she feels safe. Wendy's brother Jack is a trip, he's smart, funny and has a protective streak. He paves the way for Blade after the major screw-up of a blind date with Wendy. As is par for any relationship things don't go completely smooth and there is plenty of drama over Wendy's secret and some angst as well. Plenty of fun and laughter and maybe even a few tears. More importantly though is the way bullying is handled in this book. Jackson's girlfriend Jenny and her drama group are being targeted. Jenny in particular because Jackson and his friends stand up to the bullies. Now you know darn good and well Blade and his team aren't going to stand by and watch either. We get to see all our favorite characters in this one, well except for Fish, although he does have a video call with Jack's robotics club. Annie is precocious as ever at the performance of 'The Little Mermaid' which has Jack's girl Jenny as Ursula. The things that happen after that performance really amp up the plot. Needless to say I loved this book. Susan takes on bullying with finesse and class. Plus Susan is a notable tease and at the end of Rescuing Casey she threw out a few bombshells that had many of us gasping. In this book one of the major ones comes to head and boils over. Of course this is just setting us up for Rescuing Mary, is it October yet?

Another fabulous story.

Aspen/Blade is a special forces operator who has never had a deep relationship. When Wendy rings him trying to sell him life insurance he immediately feels a connection. They talk on the phone for several weeks before Wendy finally agrees to meet him. How their relationship develops is a very appealing and addictive read. It is written with such skill I found it hard to put down. There is plenty of action, drama, mystery and of course romance! I really enjoyed this and highly recommend it to you.

Blade wants what the rest of his team has, love. He is shocked when he finds himself drawn to the woman who calls to sell him insurance. They develop a friendship over the following months and then decide to finally meet in person. That meeting did not go well but Blade didn't give up. Wendy is determined to take care of her brother and keep her secrets but she really likes Blade. She agrees to continue to see him to see where the relationship goes. When Wendy's brother finds himself in trouble, Wendy has to trust Blade and his team to bring him back safely.

This is the 8th book in Susan Stoker's Delta Force Heroes Series. This is Aspen/Blade and Wendy's book. Blade "meets" Wendy during a phone call when she (as a telemarketer) tries to sell him life insurance. He likes the sound of her voice, and they start talking for a bit. She appreciates that he didn't cuss her out and hang up on her (like we all seem to do). Over the next few weeks, they keep talking, and then decide to meet in person. Wendy is such a nice girl, and due to being a nice girl, misses out on meeting Blade face to face. The confusion and hurt that ensues is written perfectly!! Anyways, they actually meet in person, and it's like...BOOM! WOW! Hello connection. She has a dark secret though. She is the guardian of her little brother (which is NOT her big secret). Blade meets the brother. Her brother is having issues from a bully at school. Blade and Wendy have a perfect dating life... that is until questions about this big secret start popping up. Truck gets hurt during the drama and lets it slip that he's married to Mary. OMG! The drama that ensues from that alone is written PERFECTLY!!! Can Blade and Wendy survive her secret? Can her brother survive this school bully? Do Blade and Wendy even have a shot at forever? Can the team survive what Truck and Mary did? Does the team get broken up and spread out to other teams thanks to those 2?

I really enjoyed how this book started out. Blade and Wendy got to know each by talking on the phone, before even seeing each other. Reaffirms that there are people out there not stuck on how someone “looks “ but what is inside that matters. They have their ups and downs, but they work thru it. Always great to catch up with past characters also. At the end, I struggled a little bit as to how the story was going, but in the end, it was exactly how it should have been written....if that makes sense?? Now I am looking forward even more until the last book with Truck & Mary. It’s sad to know that the next book is the last in the series, but I’m sure another awesome series will be right behind this one.

RESCUING WENDY by Susan Stoker. Wendy and Blade - oh how I adore these two! Wendy is such a strong woman, even if she feels like the world is on her shoulders. She is so loving and protective, I admired her from the start. Blade is yummy! :) He sees Wendy for the beautiful and wonderful person she is right from the start. The interactions between Wendy, Blade and Jackson were heartwarming and heartfelt, too. Ms. Stoker has written an endearing tale that has love and romance, yet suspense and danger too. Her characters are true, the plot is intriguing and a bit of a nail biter at times, and the writing style flows effortlessly. I couldn't put it down until I was done. It was enjoyable to visit with some characters from previous books too. Being a big fan, I've read all of the earlier books but it truly isn't necessary. Although I do highly recommend them as well. ***5 Stars*** And we have another winner on our hands! Not that anyone is surprised, least of all me, since this is my favorite of all the author’s series, but things go a little...differently in this one than the norm. There’s still all the swoons, melting and heart pumping suspense, but there was a different feel with this one that I really liked. I know I’m being vague right out of the chute, but… Anyways, on to Blade aka Aspen and Wendy. I loved Blade. He’s open, honest ~ even if it doesn’t always help his cause ~ and is simply an honorable guy. He has his moments, like anyone else, but even when he goes a little sideways, he’s still a good man. Wendy. I loved her, I did. She’s sweet, compassionate and has gentle soul. Add on the fact that she’s raised her brother on her own for a decade and you have a pretty amazing person on your hands. She has her...issues, and though they drove me nuts, I understood where she was coming from. I loved the way Blade and Wendy first connect and how it went from a telemarketing call to them meeting and then more. There was an ease to their interactions and it made it easy to see how good they could be for each other. There was an underlying issue that was always between them and as things progressed and they became more, it becomes a huge wall and I hate how that wall was finally toppled, but I’m not necessarily mad at either of them for it. I know, I know: vague and verbal vomity, but you really should expect it from me by now. In the end though, it was a necessary evil and I loved the path it set them on in the end. As with all of the authors books, she takes on issues that have become quite prevalent in our society and the ones that she touches on here will be triggers for some, but they are dealt with honestly and respectfully. There is a bit of a twist in this one that I didn’t see coming, but I liked it. It was something that has been brewing for awhile and it was interesting to see how all the parties involved dealt with it. Since this is my favorite series, hanging with the Delta Force guys and their women is always fun and of course Annie, but to say that I’m excited that Truck and Mary’s book is next is an understatement. I’ve been looking forward to them ever since they met in Rescuing Rayne and it looks like it’s gonna be a crazy ride! ~ Copy provided via RockStar Lit PR & voluntarily reviewed ~

This book is part of the series titled Delta Force Heroes. If like me you have only read one or two of the books, rest assure that this is a stand alone. This story belongs to Aspen/Blade, member of Delta Force and the only one in the group that is unattached, and Wendy, a young woman he befriends when she makes a telemarketing call. I specially liked this story because it dealt more with the characters and their emotions , than with suspense, bad guys vs the good guys etc. Not that there wasn’t any conflict of the kind , but we spend more time with characters that are well developed and complex. The relationship with these two was sweet . Wendy’s devotion to her brother was touching. But she is keeping secrets and Aspen can tell she is hiding from something or someone. Once we find out, we discover it’s a heartbreaking story. The reader gets a chance to spend time with other Delta Force members and their loved ones. There will be a few chuckles , especially with Annie, Emily’s daughter. All in all, a story that will touch your heart and make you want to read all the previous books in the series. It sure made me want to do that. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.. The opinions expressed are solely my own. ,
