What is it about forbidden love that we love to read about? I didn't love the ending so that's why four stars. Otherwise a must read.

Rating: 4.5 / 5 *** I'd like to thank Ms. Wilson for giving me a review copy of this book in return for an honest review. :) ***  If you have read my review of Revelation, the first book in this series (go HERE to read it), than you probably know how much I loved that book! And I am very happy to say that my feelings remain the same for Restraint.   This book just got better and better the more I kept reading, and it totally broke my heart by the time I finished reading it!  Lucky for me though, I received an ARC of Redemption- book three, which I'll be reviewing soon,so I didn't have to wait too long to dive back into Eve's world.  I really loved Restraint! The action, suspense, and romance are back in full swing in this book!  In fact everything is more intense and doubled in this book than it was in the last one.  As with with the first book, I am still very much in love Eve and Asher.  Eve's character just seems so real, and the way she reacts to things during certain circumstances was exactly how I thought anyone would react had they been in her place.  She isn't always the super strong heroine who can face anything life throws at them.  She has her moments and she isn't afraid to admit when things get overwhelming for her, or when she just needs a break from everything.  I feel like I am repeating myself hear because I kind of said the same thing in my review of Revelation, but I just want to say again that I really love these characteristics of Eve.  She is most definitely one of my most favorite heroines!  As for Asher....well he is still Asher.  You know, the whole overprotective, super hot, swoon worthy, with a side of occasional rude attitude that can make him seem like a complete jerk, do I need to go on?  I really liked Asher's character in the last book, and didn't think that he could get any better.  But I was so wrong.  Asher was completely over the top in this book.  I felt like the readers got to know him much better and he was just so sweet to Eve...for the most part! As for Gage, well, I still don't know what to make of him.  Gage is such a complex character with so many layers and there's still so much to learn about him.  The other supporting characters were all awesome as well, and I absolutely adored Abby and Callan, especially Callan with all his cute aprons! Restraint jumped right back into Eve's story from page one, and had so many twists and turns that it felt like a roller coaster ride- a super fun and enjoyable one, that is. The overall storyline for this book was very interesting and kept me hooked until the very last word! But that cliffhanger at the end...that was terrible!  It totally broke my heart, and made me so anxious to find out what happened next.  I don't think I can accurately describe just how awesome this book was, or how amazing this series is.  Eve's story is really very interesting and unique, and I definitely recommend it to lovers of the paranormal genre!

For those of you that remember, I was blown away by Revelation, the first book in this trilogy, as it was a Paranormal/Romance/Fantasy book which is my favourite genre but it was something NEW! It wasn't the same story told in a different way. I was reading something new and quickly became engrossed and yes, even addicted to it. Then it finished and I was gutted. I needed more. Randi Cooley Wilson has been teasing her fans with trailers and snippets of my favourites - Asher, Eve and Gage, not forgetting the rest of the St. Michael clan. I was so excited to receive a copy of this book but was also of the opinion that it simply wouldn't be as good as the first. There was no way that Randi would be able to sustain my interest at the level it had been for Revelation. Boy, was I wrong! Restraint is just as good, if not better, than Revelation. We see more deeply into the world of the gargoyles and understand more what Eve actually means to the rest of the 'mythological' world. Luckily for me, we see a lot more of Asher too - happy days! This book could have so easily been called Frustration because that is what I was feeling for Asher and Eve. Jeez, I want them together so badly! We see more of their relationship and their struggles as they 'try' to do the right thing. Eve isn't afraid of Asher anymore and will happily disagree with him should she feel he is wrong, but still has her own insecurities that spring up occasionally. Mind you, if Eve didn't want him, I'd be more than happy to take him off her hands. What hubby doesn't know won't hurt him ;) The characters in this book are all fantastically well written and we get even more depth and knowledge about them. We learn that Callan loves to bake whenever he and Abby argue, we learn that Eve can take lessons from this but also can't keep a straight face when offered a cookie any more! McKenna is warming up, Keegan is still the strong silent type but emotions are coming through. Gage is still... well, Gage is still Gage. If you're going to have a triangle then at least make it a good one and this one is brilliant. I could not put this book down and ended up staying awake far too late in the evening to finish it. *Spoiler Alert - invest in a box of tissues and preferably a large wine whilst reading this!* I have waited a few days before posting the review simply to make sure that I don't gush like a schoolgirl at her first boy-band concert. I'm not sure I've 100% succeeded but I've given it my best shot. Absolutely fantastic second book in the series. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to all once it is released in August. Now, if only book 3 would be released like NOW!

4-1/2 Stars. Restraint is more intense, more action-packed, steamier, and more heartbreaking than Revelation. The story picks up on the heels of the tragic loss of Aria as Eve tries to deal not only with her grief, but the guilt she feels over Aria’s death. Asher is forbidden to love Eve and Eve feels her preoccupation with Asher is partly to blame for what happened to Aria, so they both must exercise restraint when it comes to the other. With these two, that’s easier said than done. Lucifer is after Eve and he’s got a legion of dark followers to help him. Eve has her gargoyles, and her ascension powers. And then there’ all that unresolved sexual tension which drives many of the best moments in the book. Plot I thought the plot was more gripping than Revelation. Revelation was about Eve discovering who she is and what she’s to become. But now that she knows, we really get into the meat of the action. Between that and the insanely hot scenes between Eve and Asher, Restraint was hard to put down. And I’ll admit, I’m dying read about Eve’s experience with Asher’s, er….piercing… I wonder if I could talk my husband into one. Characters The characters are true to form. There is some development, but not a ton. And I think that’s okay at this stage. Restraint is more about plot development than character development. I’m still intrigued by Gage, still love Asher, and still want to see Eve succeed. I’m beginning to soften toward McKenna and might be secretly in love with Callan. One of the best scenes in the book involves Callan, sexual frustration, and lots of baked goods. Bottom Line Restraint is a solid follow up to Revelation that furthers the plot in intense fashion. If you like your paranormal romances on the steamy side, this is right up your alley. Disclaimer I was provided a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
