This story started out really interesting with the marriage by proxy. But when the husband showed up, I thought Cecilia was a little to mean for a little too long. Michael didn't deserve how she treated him. The brother was awful along with his friends. Overall the story was good but there were some things I didn't care about the story. The first in the series about three friends who made a difficult decision in war that cost some innocent lives and they are trying to redeem themselves. Michael was a great hero.

Not her best book. At one point I wanted to stop reading it. But, I keep reading it because I have never stop reading a book in the middle of it. But that is okay definitely not her best book.

Not her best. I have had a hard time getting into this books. I am not even half way through and am not wanting to finish it.  I do not care for the brother and his sister keeps making excuses for him.

The heroine just can't decide if she wants to be in charge or not. A decent side plot with a couple of the characters but not too much to recommend otherwise.

I really wanted to love this book and I partly did. Gayle Callen is one of my favorite authors but the heroine in this story was not worthy of this dreamy war hero. After communicating back and forth with the hero after the death of her father, the Hero's superior officer, the heroine asks the hero to marry her sight unseen so that she can administer her inheritance rather than her guardian. She gets her wish they marry by proxy. Her freedom allows her to assist her brother run the estate since he has now become an earl at a young age. When the H and H meet, they are both surprised to see that they are young and vibrant people. The Hero turns out to be a Viscount in addition to being a well respected soldier. He is likeable and a total gentleman proposing to the heroine that he would allow her time to adjust to the marriage. The Heroine was a total harpy almost from the onset. Her rudeness towards the Viscount become irritating and I kept wishing at certain points that she would be killed off and replaced with a much nicer Heroine. There is murder plot twist in the story and it is resolved at the end. The resolution was a bit muddy. I also had a problem with the Heroine's brother; he was such a jerk throughout most of the book.

Stiry but ok The ending between for Cecilia and Michsel was to quick and not really resolved A short epilogue would have made this a much better story
