From acclaimed author, Renee Bernard, known for her "sinfully sexy"* romances comes the first in a tantalizing series of erotic passion set in Victorian London...

Now, Galen has one mission: to seduce Miss Moreland and enslave her heart. And when she is completely his, he will destroy her...

With her family on the brink of financial ruin, Haley knows she should be grateful for her providential betrothal. But then she meets the dangerously handsome Galen, whose wicked touch makes her long to abandon all logic. If Galen's promises are sincere, the match to a family of noble blood and strong financial accounts could be the remedy her family desperately needs. And if he isn't sincere, one last chance to taste the passion he ignites before settling into a life of convention is equally alluring...

I am not a prude and appreciate a little eroticism in historical romances but this one went too far. The storyline had potential until every other page was a drawn out sex scene. It just went too far - and again I am not a prude! So if you like a lot of meaningless raunchy sex, knock yourself out with this one. I quit reading before the author introduced auto erotic asphyxiation (I'm jusr speculating here). Overall disappointing.

Galen has vowed to take revenge against the woman who betrayed his late friend John. Now back in England, he discovers that Miss Haley Moreland is betrothed to another man, so soon after John, her fiancé, has passed away, and she seems as merry as ever. Can she be so cold and unfeeling, or is there another motive at work? Galen believes that only one thing can set this matter straight. He must first seduce her and win her heart. Then he must destroy her. Unfortunately for Galen, the matter may be a little more complicated than he expects. A seductive plot unfolds in Revenge Wears Rubies, the newest novel from award-winning romance author Renee Bernard. Bernard is well-known as an author of erotic historical romances that tend to captivate readers with their depth and imagination. Her latest work is the first component of a series that is set in classic Victorian England. Revenge Wears Rubies an excellent reading choice for anyone who appreciates contemporary romance with classic elements or historical settings, and, of course, fans of Bernard's previous work will be anxiously awaiting the arrival of this piece on bookstore shelves.

After attempting to read Ecstacy Wears Emeralds, and failing because of the dreadful writing, I had few expectations starting this book. Renee Bernard has done better here, but too often it was short on story and very long on sex scenes. At times entire chapters were only sexual antics. There were several misuses of words that couldn't be attributed the use of spell check. The end was rushed. Perhaps less sex and more plot would make a better book telling more about the Indian assassins, who made such a brief appearance, and Bascombe. Attention to detail is what makes the difference between a compelling tale and a so-so romance.

The language seemed very stilted, Victorian, and the story evolved slowly. While quite predictable, revenge, over misunderstood intentions, some of the sex scenes were definitely un-Victorian. Glad to be done

It's obvious that this author can write well but can she tell a story? I'm okay with a few steamy sex scenes but when sex is used as a page filler; I'm inclined to question her ability to tell a tale. Wrapped up in the sex is some convoluted revenge theme there's also some nonsense about escaping from some dungeon in India. She needs to do a little more research about India. Sahib is a term used to address someone of a higher class. (Like sir) rajah = king, maharajah = emperor. This author's pertinent rudimentary knowledge about the subject is nill, but she can certainly fill pages and pages of sex scenes

In 1857 he survived imprisonment in Bengal, India. Now two tears later, Galen Hawke is in England still suffering nightmares only to find the fiancée of the late John, one of the other seven English prisoners, enjoying her first season rather than grieving his death. He vows to teach Miss Haley Moreland, engaged to Herbert Trumble, a lesson she will never forget. Haley is ignorant that her childhood friend John felt they were engaged; as he never asked and she never had to respond. Her biggest issue is to keep her family from poverty, which means marrying wealth. However, upon meeting Galen, she is attracted to him while he wants to seduce and ergo destroy her. As he begins to reassess what he thought he knew about Haley, she ponders whether to marry for love or money that is if Galen even considers marrying her. This terrific Victorian romance grips the audience with the opening nightmare as an enthralled audience watches how the vendetta of a Jaded Gentleman plays out. Fast-paced throughout as her sly father observes, fans will appreciate Galen's thirst for vengeance turn to admiration and love, but might prove too late. With "Sapphires" to follow, sub-genre readers will enjoy the first of the Jaded Gentleman tales. Harriet Klausner

This book begins a series featuring several men who were held prisoner in India and eventually escaped and made their way back to England. Their harrowing experiences have bonded them together, yet set them apart from Society, and they become known as the Jaded Gentlemen. Jaded certainly describes Galen Hawke. After his return to England, he's in such a deep depression that nothing matters to him anymore, until he latches on to the fact that the beloved of his friend who died in their escape is suddenly engaged to another man. Galen is furious that she hasn't taken the proper time to mourn his friend, so he concocts a plan to exact revenge. You can tell this plan is going to be disastrous from the beginning, even if it does succeed, but you just can't look away! Galen becomes obsessed with his target and the seduction is on. Hayley Moreland is just trying to keep her family afloat. Her father is in deep debt, and she is grateful to be engaged to one of the richest industrialists in the country. Okay, he's a little boring and a lot uncouth, but he's a decent guy for the times. When Galen starts popping up everywhere and promises her the moon, of course she jumps at the chance to be with him. I liked the writing style, even if it was a bit flowery at times. The descriptions of the settings and Hayley's dresses, which she designs, were detailed and really set the scene. There is some action and intrigue, so that kept my attention too. There was a lot of sizzling hot sex, which was great on one hand, but was also one of the drawbacks of this book. Would a young inexperienced lady really be able to sneak around for so long and have SO MUCH SEX without getting caught or getting pregnant? That is never really dealt with. And there's the fact that Galen's plot is really mean-spirited, at least in the beginning. Even with the drawbacks, I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading about the rest of the Jaded Gentlemen.

The first half of the book was very strong and I enjoyed meeting the heroine and the hero and the hero's plan for the heroine. But "boom" in the middle of the book I felt like everything fast forwarded without my knowledge. A lot of actions were just very premature and not in keeping with the characters. At the same time I felt the heroine became a little silly. I really enjoyed the first half and just ended up being disappointed in the second half and read through it as quickly as possible.

Well written, very interesting storyline. Well-developed characters who are different and diverse. For me, could have had more excitement, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it.

This is the story of Haley and Galen. In the beginning of the book the reader is given a short synopsis of the basis of the book. Several men are being held hostage by a crazy sheik who tortures and mistreats them. They are held in a dungeon in the dark for years until they have a chance to escape. In their flight they stumble upon sheik's room of treasures and they take as much as they can carry. Along the way one of the men dies, he is the one who had told them stories about his fiancé and how much he loved her. It was his stories that kept the men going when things got so bad. As he dies he asks Galen to take care of the woman he loves. Galen makes it back to England and eventually looks up Haley and discovers she is engaged to a man who is considered to be beneath her since is an industrialist with lots of wealth. This fiancé is somewhat uncouth but is a social climber. He is marrying Haley to better his social standing and she is marrying him because her family needs money. She isn't happy about it but is trying to convince herself that can do it for the good of her family. Galen is incensed that she can throw off his friend without mourning him. He considers her a mercenary harlot and determines to ruin her by enticing her away then ruining her. He sets his course and proceeds. Unfortunately he falls in love along the way. The lovemaking is quite passionate and the reader is drawn in. But I found myself wanting to punch him because you just know that Haley is innocent of wrongdoing and Galen is a jerk. It is due to his actions that Haley and her family are forced to flee London. There are many other twists and surprises to the story and it is hard to predict the ending but the story was good, and the characters too believable. This is book one of the story of The Jaded, as the men who spent that time in the dungeon call their selves. I am looking forward to reading more of this group.

The intrigue of the Jaded's history and their simulation back into society could have easily been developed to make this a good story and reducing the need for the mindless raunchy sex that did nothing but detract. Thankfully this was a free book. I would not recommend wasting your time.

I love this book. Renee interweaves a suspenseful, mystery story with romance. The sex scenes is a little intense and may not be for everyone. I can't wait to read the rest of the books in the series.
