This story covers a time period of about seventy years. It is from the point of view of Marit, a young woman who lives in the northern Scandinavian area of Europe during World War II. She meets and falls in love with a German soldier who is billeted with her and her family. The general theme may be familiar, but the characters are well developed and you go through their experiences with them and feel a lot of what they feel. I knew part of the war was in Scandinavian countries, but I didn't know it was that far north. I also learned about the Sami people, or Lapps. I will be looking for more works by this author in the near future. Recommended for any and all. I received this through Library Thing giveaways for an honest review.

Revontuli (Northern Lights) unearths a unique side of World War II history that even the most dedicated of the genre’s readers may not have encountered. This entrancing story of a young girl falling in love with the German soldier occupying her home is a version of the star-crossed lovers tale that is so controversial and intense, it grips you instantly. Author Andrew Eddy tells this story with a beautiful voice and style while simultaneously mesmerizing us with the lesser known historical events that took place during WWII in the Arctic Circle where Norway meets Finland, a place where the Northern Lights glow. —Stephanie Carroll, Author of “A White Room”
