Joseph A. Zapalac: Poet and author of Reflections, Memories Past, was raised by his loving Grandparents on a farm in a small rural Texas town. His passion for writing began at an early age and allows him to use a pen and pad as an artist would with brush and canvas. He now resides in Bolingbrook, Illinois. Joseph is joined here by his writing partner, Vada M. Wolter, photographer and writer. She holds an Associate Degree in Biblical Studies and was caregiver to her Mother for four years. She loves being creative whether with a camera or pen. She was born and raised in the same town as Joseph and a former classmate of his. She now resides in the Houston, TX area.

"Ribbons and Roses: Poetry, Prose and Potpouri" (Outskirts Press.2009) was lovingly created by childhood friends, V.M. Wolter & Joseph A. Zapalac. The beautiful book cover beckons to you with its lovely image of roses, lace and ribbons, like a bridal bouquet or high school prom corsage. It welcomes you to look inside the book and find its priceless treasures. For this book is filled with faith, inspiration, beautiful bible scriptures, caring, warmth, love, hope, peace, truth, philosophy, strength, everyday life events, black & white illustrations and photographs of places and things that are so very special to Vada Wolter and Joseph Zapalac. It will warm your heart and wake up your own special memories. But when you get to pg. 66 and read "Table for Two", these 10 lines truly say it all. Read it slowly, savor each word and share it with your loved ones. This book would make a wonderful gift, so I am giving my autographed copy of this book to The Brooklyn College Library to be cataloged and placed on their shelf so the students can enjoy its beauty and spiritual message! Most all, Vada Wolter and Joseph Zapalac have two common bonds with me because we have the same book publisher, Outskirts Press. But most of all, because we share the love and admiration for Doo-Wop Music of the 1950's, NYC street corner harmony at its very best, acapella music, oldies but goodies, blasts from the past, songs with messages of love & romance, handsome lead singers, beautiful girl groups, REAL MUSIC. It has been an honor and a privilege to review this wonderful book. I recommend it highly to EVERYONE!!! This collection of poetry and prose with the addition of God's Word made for a good read. I like the idea of having a journal included where the reader could write his or her thoughts and feelings down. It is obvious that this writing team has compassionate hearts with their donating a portion of this books sales to the homeless and hurting across the United States. I felt the love in my heart being rekindled for family as I read the story "Red and Green Tissue Paper." I loved the homey feeling I got as I viewed the photography reflecting Country Memories. I look forward to many more books from this writing team!!
