Cassie Palmer can see the future, talk to ghosts, and travel through time—but nothing’s prepared her for this.
Ever since being stuck with the job of pythia, the chief seer of the supernatural world, Cassie Palmer has been playing catch up. Catch up to the lifetime's worth of training she missed being raised by a psychotic vampire instead of at the fabled pythian court. Catch up to the powerful, and sometimes seductive, forces trying to mold her to their will. It's been a trial by fire that has left her more than a little burned.
But now she realizes that all that was the just the warm up for the real race. Ancient forces that once terrorized the world are trying to return, and Cassie is the only one who can stop them...

Readers of this series know by now a Cassie Palmer book will have epic adventure, a bit of romance, secretive and frustrating vampires, intense war mages plus other assorted supernaturals and gods who oh so want to come back to Earth to take over again. And adding to the fun, time travel as this is Cassie’s last chance to rescue Pritkin’s soul, which has been a theme for three books now, before he is lost forever. For Cassie and her entertaining “helper” Rosier, who is not quite himself, much of the action takes place in the 6th century in King Arthur’s court where royals and the Fae are waging war. Things are not much calmer or saner back in her own time where she has dark mages on her tail plus others who want her help including the Senate, the Silver Circle, and their allies who are getting ready to wage war on those who would help Ares return. Mircea has been keeping a secret or dozen from Cassie and now, finally, much is revealed which unsurprisingly may have an impact on their relationship: men and vampires should know better! Mircea is the only man, human or vampire, that Cassie has loved until now, but is that still true? Cassie makes some possibly far reaching decisions about her feelings for Pritkin as well after spending so much of her time trying to save him and being constantly thwarted by previous Pythias, and the last rogue acolyte who wants her gone permanently. She seeks the help of some very important people from her past and learns much more about some of her inherited talents. Karen Chance is a master at wild rides, heart stopping action, epic battles and arduous trials for her characters that readers have come to care about and are yearning to know what’s next, and who will survive all that the gods and monsters throw at them. I don’t know of another author who leaves me so figuratively breathless and run so thoroughly the emotional ringer at such a high rate of speed. The fact that she does it all so very well speaks to the quality of the writing and her creative abilities. This bumpy ride will please fans of the series and hopefully give satisfaction to those who have been waiting for things to move along and resolve some of the story arc. As usual though, plenty of issues remain to go forward for the next book especially for Cassie’s personal life.

A fantastic end to the current arc. Rosier's development over the last few books has been satisfying to watch. I recently reread his first appearance and its like night and day. We finally get some answers out of Mircea. Pritkin's soul journey comes to an end and I'm going to miss baby!Pritkin. There are quite a few heart stopping moments. I adore this book and this series and will read until the end.

I've been reading these books since I was 17 and I'm 25 now. They are worth the wait! The characters and the plots are so good. It's funny, captivating, exciting and everything else you want in a good series and book!

I couldn't put this book down! I reread the entire series in preparation for this addition and it's one of the best. There's much more build up through this novel until the end comes crashing in like a cannonball. I thoroughly enjoyed this edition, but I sincerely hope this is not the end of the Cassie Palmer series.

This book was awesome! It got a bit confusing at times with all the action going on. Hopefully the next book won't take so long to get published. On a side note, there were tons of run on sentences. Which was a little annoying.

I love the Cassie Palmer books. They are fast paced, yet still have good character development. We learned quite a bit about Mircea and Cassie in this book. I have been waiting for Cassie to make a decision between Pritkin and Mircea. Finally she did in this book, or did she? Now I must wait for the next installment.

My head is spinning and the little grey cells are hurting after all the time-hops, battles and intrigues. At times I felt it was a bit much, and then the author would bring it all back to the Cassie we know and love. There are perhaps one too many action scenes, too many moments that are almost repetitive, which then takes the pleasure out of the story, because you know what is coming. One of the aspects I particularly enjoyed was the way Chance brought in facts and story-lines from older books and even from the Basarab series. It is no secret that I think the Dorina Basarab series is superior to the Cassie Palmer one, so I was really excited to see her appear in this book. It was more of a secondary and explanatory role, but it was still a nice touch. I would love to see a Basarab and Palmer novel with both receiving the same amount of attention. Mircea spent a certain amount of time clearing up certain things about Dory, and in doing so also reveals a secret that connects all of the Pythias throughout the centuries. It is also a betrayal on a certain level, as far as I am concerned, because he admits to planning ahead and wanting to use the Pythia, ergo Cassie, to achieve his greatest desire. Now she is armed with this information will Cassie finally stand by her attraction to Pritkin and accept that perhaps she was nothing more than a means to an end for Mircea. I find that Karen Chance manages to create more complex plot-lines and scenarios as the series goes on, as opposed to less interesting as the ideas dwindle. The trick is keeping the element alive that keeps the readers coming back for more. Chance is one of the more underrated stars of the urban fantasy genre, especially when it comes to the Basarab series, and definitely an author whose books I look forward to.

This book was simply fantastic! The series is still producing quality writing and an amazing storyline. I love the characters and the originality of the whole Cassie Palmer world. This series is far from over and I could not be happier. I loved the ending...Can't wait for the next book!!!

I loved this book. I was afraid it was the last one of the series (a lot of things are resolved in this) but the author notes on her blog that no, that is not the case at all. We're presented with the usual fast-paced and crazy "Cassie's life as she knows it" from the start, and it doesn't slow down. We also learn a lot more about Rosier, Pritkin, and even about what is driving Mircea. All in all, a great continuation of a thoroughly enjoyable series, and worth the wait. I'll be pre-ordering the next one.

My favorite time hopping heroine in a series that keeps me sleep deprived and on the edge of my seat.

Fun book that does manage to tie up multiple loose ends from previous books while still leaving space for interesting new twists.
