Riders of Judgment by Ralph Compton, Ralph Cotton

The Strange siblings are on the hunt for justice in this Ralph Compton western...

In her guise as "Danny Duggin", Danielle Strange has spent the past two years hunting down the outlaws who murdered her father. Reunited with her brothers, the twins Tim and Jed, she plans to take her war across the border into Mexico—unaware she's being pursued by a U.S. federal marshall...

Saul Delmano comes from a powerful family of cattlemen whose business stretches from the Southwestern territories into Mexico. He's put a $2,000 reward on "Danny Duggin's" head, tempting every outlaw and bounty hunter across the West to try to collect it. But the cry of vengeance has been shouted out—and only justice can silence it...

Rambling tale of vengeance in the Old West. The novel was written by Ralph Cotton to complete a trilogy by the late Ralph Compton. Its uncertain genesis may explain its mixed results. As Western novels go, it is readable. The action is violent and furious. Nevertheless, it has some problems. There isn't enough solid plot and character development to sustain the 300+ page length of the novel. As much as we enjoy tales of blood and thunder, there needs to be some logical plot progression for the gunfire to resonate with significance. In this age of massive tomes from Tom Clancy and Stephen King, Western fiction should be as lean and tough as the iron men and steely women it portrays. The violent encounters between Danny Duggin and the legion of killers after the bounty that the criminal Delmano family put on Danny's head are redundant. Characters are introduced with no other purpose than to be gunned down a short time later. Danny Duggin's identity issue (a woman pretending to be a man) hampers her meaningful development into a character of three dimensions. The focus of the plot frequently shifts around as if it is uncertain of the central character. This hampered the novel's ability to present a clearly defined hero, a must for good Western fiction. Overall, an average book that could be better. ;-)

This book finished the 'Danny Duggin' saga wonderfully. All of the Ralph Compton books fill my mind of images that other books could never do. I never knew of the author Ralph Cotton until he started writting the Ralph Compton novels. Cotton also sends my mind wondering what the old west was actually like, it couldn't have been any better. My compliments to Cotton.

I read Ralph Cotton's Riders of Judgment in just three nights. The main characters are constantly overcoming challenges and obstacles to reach their goal of avenging their father's death. Ralph Cotton has added a good portion of surprise that will keep your attention and make you want to read on, lest you miss out on something spectacular. He has done Ralph Compton proud with Riders of Judgment.

Ralph Cotton has done it again...written another masterful western by taking up the fallen reigns from Ralph Compton and not missing a hoofbeat. RIDERS OF JUDGEMENT has enough action to please any western fan and is A MUST READ. I'm sure Ralph Compton is sitting at his writting desk in the sky just beaming at the wonderful job Cotton has done continuing on his(Compton's) work. Thank you Ralph Cotton for keeping Compton's saga of the Strange family going.

In Riders Of Judgement, Danielle, her brothers, Tim and Jed, hunt the last remaining outlaw who hung their father. Danielle, Tim and Jed ride a vengeance trail that is soaked with blood. Hounded by outlaws, they press southward across the border and into Mexico, where they learn there is a price to pay for revenge. Ralph Compton began a great trilogy with Death Rides A Chestnut Mare. Ralph Cotton does a fantastic job of concluding this trilogy, with the Shadow Of A Noose and Riders Of Judgement. Ralph Compton¿s insight will be with us always, through his writings¿
