This is a book written about a group of teens, led by a "wise woman", who are on a magickal quest to restore the harmony of nature. This book draws you into the characters' lives so deeply that you actually care desperately what happens to them. It's a fascinating, compelling book that contains fantasy, magick, suspense, and yes, romance....combines elements of the "impossible" with what I term " ethereal reality". Not just suitable for young adults; practically compulsory reading for anyone imaginative enough to even consider the possibility of other, more glamorous (yet dangerous) worlds. Hopefully this amazing author will continue her literary journey...

When I was young, there was a wooded area behind my grandmother’s house. It wasn’t big but it was my favorite place to play. We called it “the gulley”—don’t ask me why, because I have no idea. It was where my cousins and I played. To me it was a magical place. I used to believe fairies and unicorns lived in the gulley and if I searched hard enough, I would find them. That is exactly what Gisele Westerfield is guarding behind her house in Diane M. Haynes’ Rift Healer. A magical wood where all kinds of fanciful creatures are really alive, but unlike my gulley, Gisele’s enchanted forest is real. There was an earthquake, not a powerful one, but big enough to cause rifts in the earth inside the magical woods. Gisele has dealt with this before, long ago when she was young, and knows the evil lurking beneath the ground ready to escape through the rift. She tries to get her family to help but only her great nephew and great niece come. The rest  believe the evil could have returned again. Gisele is desperate because she knows her magic is no longer powerful enough and she cannot close the rifts herself and if she doesn’t, the evil is going to spill over into the non-magical world. Then enters our heroine, a spunky fourteen year old twin named Haley. She and her sister, Lacey, are students of Gisele’s, learning to harness the magic within them. Haley discovers a talent for closing the rifts and the battle begins. The descriptions of what comes out of these rifts are phenomenal. My favorite are the Dragonocepedes. “With dragon-type heads, neck and back the strange reptilian creatures skimmed the forest floor on thousands of tiny centipede-like legs, which undulated on the flat, foot-wide body.” Though this young adult novel centers around the battles at the rifts, there is also a love story central to the plot. Though sometimes a bit intense for me, I found the new love between Gisele’s nephew, Micah, and Haley to be sweet and their devotion to one another true. I’m really glad this book is the first in a series because I want to know more about the twins, their love lives and the magical wood in Massachusetts.

This was a pretty fun read.  It’s a fantasy story with a lot of adventure and an interesting variety of magical creatures and more.  The characters felt well developed and I really appreciated that the kids could still be heroic and all with adult guidance present.  So many stories now days make it seem like you have to be independent to be strong, when you can still be strong with help from others – even adults. I will say that it’s definitely a teenage book.  There’s a big romance element to this story which is bittersweet in regards to the story and the age of its characters.  I met my husband at the age of 15, so I don’t believe that you can’t establish a real and lasting relationship young, but this feels borderline unrealistic.  I think for most it’ll be one of those love or hate things.   The writing could’ve been smoother with some more editing and refining, and a better balance between the romance the adventure, but overall it was pretty good.  It took a bit to get used to and jump into, but once I did, it was a fun read with no cliffhanger ending which I greatly appreciated.   While there are some good and bad with this read, there’s a great plot in a vivid fantasy world.  The ending is complete, but still leaves room for a sequel which is cool and I will be checking that out!

Twins Haley and Lacey are ready for an exciting summer. They are meeting with a woman named Gisele who has shown them some pretty amazing and magical things already. This summer it appears that they will be healing "rifts" in the forest that are letting magical mayhem loose. Things are complicated by several things though, not the least of which is Gisele's grand-nephew Micah. He's handsome, talented, and sure that Haley is the one for him. His distant cousin Selena doesn't like this at all. Through in tons of magical creatures and some eerie prophecies, and you get an exciting adventure for everyone. I liked the concept of this book. The magical creatures escaping through rifts in a mysterious forest was fantastic. I think this book suffered a bit in the execution though. The writing was a bit choppy for my tastes. It just never seemed to flow like I wanted. Also, there was a lot of teenage angst, especially in the middle part of the story, that I wasn't really in to. I have a feeling though that those things won't be issues for some people. They will manage to get caught up in the fantasy and magic of it all. If you can do that, you'll really enjoy this book. As I said, the idea of this book was great, and the plotline showed that. There were so many interesting and inventive creatures. I really wanted to know more about those. I think younger readers will find a lot to enjoy in this book. While I didn't really enjoy the teenage angst, I think some people will really love that part. The idea of being magically destined for the other still doesn't get you past the worries and problems that teens have. That was kind of fun to see in some respects. Overall this book was interesting and very magical. I think there are many people who will love those aspects of the book and really enjoy reading it. Book provided for review

4 STARS I was surprised to find out this was the first book. The background on what happened last summer was so well remembered and discussed between the twins and Taylor. Really well told back story. This is a fantasy adventure, clean read that keeps you spellbound with it's magic. Lots of magical creatures. Lots of scary creatures I would not want to deal with. Some human teenagers who have some talent of their own. A epic battle if the fail life will not be the same. Lacey and Haley are fourteen year old twins who parents got divorced last year. They are spending the summer with their grandmother out in the country. They are excited because last summer here in the forest they met some fairies and other magical creatures some good and some scary ones. They learned about gathering herbs in the forest from Gisele their grandmother's friend. Lacey also found a boyfriend Taylor. She is excited to spend time with him again this summer. Gisele Westerfield knows that this summer will be different. It will be dangerous and take a lot of magic to close all the rifts in the forest. They had to close them 50 years ago and one of her friends did not survive it. Her family has magic and are caretakers of the forest. They have to stop the dark creatures from coming into our world and destroying it. Her family don't believe that it will be bad again. Only her great nephew Micah at 16 and his distant cousin Selena have come to help her. Micah has lots of magical gifts. One he knows when someone is going to play a big role in his life. He sees a picture from last summer and is drawn to Haley. He knows she is to be part of his future. He can tell her apart from her twin in the picture. He can force anyone to obey him, fight with a sword and wand. He is sixteen. Selena is fifteen and small. She is in love with her cousin Micah. She will do anything for him. She knows that this summer will be the summer they get back together. When shy Haley and Micah meet everyone else disappears. They are so drawn to each other. Haley is scared about all of Micah's powers. Gisele had tried to keep them from meeting. She told Lacey, Haley and Taylor that they needed to stay out of the forest this year. It was dangerous. To go home till they can close the rifts. As the three leave and ride their bikes back to their grandmother's they see a unicorn and follow it into the forest. Haley feels like she can close the rift and stretches out her hands and goes into a trance. Haley is then attacked. Lacey and Taylor start firing their water pistols at the creatures and they kill them. When the rift is closed Haley falls to the ground. They know they need to find the others and help them. The story goes from everyday summer fun to fights to close the rifts. They have to wait so long between times they can go back in and fight. It does a good job of mixing the two vast different times together. Lots of action, drama, fights and teenage angst as they fight their fears to save the forest. Some of the magical creatures our fairies, trolls, dragons, unicorns, Tinks, and many more surprises. I enjoyed reading Rift Healer and look forward to more adventures into the forest. I was given this ebook to read and agreed in exchange to give honest review and be part of their blog tour.

Haley and Lacey look forward to staying with their grandmother in the summer. They love being there and also they love helping and learning from Giselle. She help them have a fun summer last year learning a little about magic and exploring the enchanted forest. This summer may have more magic and adventure than the twins are expecting. See rifts are opening up and it may be up to them to save the forest and maybe the world from an evil. They have help when Micah and Selena show up at their aunt Giselle to help and learn more magic. Micah has more reasons for coming than learning magic. He wanted to meet Haley. Lacey's boyfriend Taylor is also there to help them heal the rifts and to help in what way he can.  Haley I liked from the start. She seemed like the shy girl who doesn't stand out a lot because she won't let herself. She grows so much in this book and even tho she is only 14 she learns a lot about growing up. Lacey is funny at times. She has to know what is going on with Haley all the time and never tries to get in Haleys way just has to know what is going on. They act like what I imagine sisters would ac like. Taylor is the normal guy that even if he isn't as powerful as the rest he learns quickly and always has everyones back. Micah to me came on to strong at times and could have a cocky attitude. He really cares for Haley but at times he would let that get in the way. I did grow to like him more as the book when on. Giselle I loved from the start she knows it may kill her but she still takes these kids to do what has to be done. She is so strong and has so much knowledge. Selena I didn't care for. She seemed liked the snotty girl who wants everything her way. Even when she helps out I still didn't grow to like her a whole lot. This is a very clean YA fantasy/ adventure book. It has romance in it but it is a sweet young love that doesn't go to far. There is plenty of adventure as these kids do all they can and battle many creatures to heal the rifts. All types of creatures come out in this book making it a magical read. I enjoyed this book and soon got involved with the story trying to see if they will make it and wondering what things they will face next. The only thing that kept me from loving it was how serious some relationships seem in this book and the kids age. It is still a great book don't get me wrong I just didn't live that part of it. Maybe if they were a little older it wouldn't have bothered me as bad. If you are wanting to go on a magical adventure pick this one up!

I loved this book! Haynes drew me in with her Enchanted Forest right away and I was ready to stay there. Her vision of its magical inhabitants is wonderfully different, yet familiar at the same time. RIFT HEALER is tightly written, fast paced and flows smoothly from one magical moment to the next. The characters are engaging and believable and will appeal to adults as well as the YA group. Haley is especially endearing, with her awkward blossoming into an adult and magical healer. I can't wait to read what's next in this awesome series! I highly recommend this book!

The wonderful Diane Haynes gave me a copy of her book Rift Healer in exchange for an honest review. I was thrilled that I accepted. The book was awesome in a can’t put it down kind of way. As we start Rift Healer we are introduced to 14 year-old twins Haley and Lacey. They spend the summers at their grandmothers house and spend the weekends during the summer with their father. During the summer before the book starts, they started working with a woman named Giselle who begins teaching them different types of magic. As the new summer begins, Haley and Lacey will learn how much the forest truly needs their powers and skills that they have been taught. They will also find out that they need to learn a whole lot more if they are going to be able to save the forest. We also meet Micah- Giselle’s great nephew, Selena- Micah’s distant cousin, and Taylor- Lacey’s boyfriend. These three characters will all play very important parts in the story. This book was truly awesome. I felt as though i was right along side with the characters as they learned new abilities and faced difficult battles. I would definitely give it 5 stars. I am curious to find out what will happen next in Haley’s life. So yes, I will definitely be buying the next one when it comes out!

My review of Rift Healer by Diane Hayes Rating 5***** This book was provided free from the author in exchange for honest literary review. Gisele has enjoyed her life next to an enchanted forest for almost fifty years in peace. She has used her skills in herbology and her Gifts to heal and even taught other student along the way. No students have grabbed her heart more than her latest pupils Haley, Lacey, and Taylor. Haley and Lacey and identical twins and Taylor just happens to be Lacey's boyfriend. Both of the twins have gifts, but power radiates from Haley. A giant quake shakes the forest and opens rifts in the forest floor unleashing evil creatures of darkness on the forest. When Gisele sends out a call for help all that returns to her is Micah and Selena - two more teenagers. While these two are from her own line of magic and trained, she must figure out how to heal all the rifts leaking evil with just her and 5 teenagers. Most importantly she needs to bring everyone out of the forest alive. I fell in love with this book and I so hope there is a continuation. I adore the romatic overtones between the teens, because all of us remember first love and first heartbreak. The action is fast paced and grabs your attention from the very start. While the group does work together, the author develop each different, separate personalities .....and makes you feel as if you know them all. I read this book all the way through without stopping!!! It is definitely one you won't walk away from A WaAr review

Action, adventure, young love, and more...you think it has all been done before? Nope, the story kept me glued for the moment I started. If it wasn't for having other things to do I would have not wanted to put this down. If you are a lover of fantasy and young adult books this one is a must. If anything I wish it was longer! There were many sub-adventures that could have been elaborated on but understandably that wasn't the point of this book. I think I smell a 'unfinished tales' book if she sees this review. In the end it was a very fun read and I can't wait for more!

This novel is creative, adventurous, and magical. A group of teens spend their summer with their aged herb teacher battling fantastical creatures while attempting to heal rifts in their favorite enchanted forest. Unicorns, dragons, fairies, and my personal favorite--The Green Man--plus many more like giant scorpions, line quicksand, and Terrors all make their appearance in these pages. Mix in teen romance, some jealousy, and the special bond between twin sisters and you have a great YA fantasy!

I received this book free from author in exchange of a honest review.Thank you,Diane! OH.MY.GOD!This book was AMAZING!!It became one of my favorite!I couldn’t put it down for a second! The story is very original and different. No vampires,no werewolfes,no ghost. But instead we have unicorns, dragons and fairies.I’ve always wanted to read a book with dragons and unicorns, because in my opinion, from unicorns and dragons began the fantasy era. They are mythical creatures and even if you think that unicorns are for kids, they make this book even better. ¿ Diane is a very good author. She knows exactly how to make you love her book and her style-writing is amazing. The story line flows from itself, making the book easy to read and love. I also liked that the author didn’t tell the story just from Haley point of view, but from Micah’s too. In this way ,I got to know Micah and his feelings about Haley.Speaking about feelings, they were very well described. When Diane described Micah’s feelings for Haley , I felt the love . Haley and Micah were so sweet together and I loved them. ¿ I really, really liked the characters. They were very good portrated and I had a connection with them from the very first moment I “met” them. I didn’t like Selena ,because she was evil, but I loved Gisele,Haley,Micah,Lasey and Taylor. The athmosphere in this book was magic. I felt like I was part of the story, like I was watching from some corner and the characters were right in front of me , acting their act. It was incredible how a book can make you love, cry, laugh and how it takes your breath away. That’s why I love “Rift Healer” so much.It took my breath away and I fell in love with it. I really, really recommend this book to all the fantasy lover. You’ll love it! ¿ In the beginning, Micah is visiting his great-aunt, Gisele,a lovely women. When he saw a picture of a beautiful girl named Haley, he felt an actration for her. After this, the twins are introduced in the story. Haley and Lacey are 14 almost 15 years old twins. One day, Haley feels like tthere was an earthquake ,but Lacey doesn’t belive it.Haley is worried because of what can happen because of an earthquake. After this ,the girls go to a carnival and out of curiosity, they go to a fortune teller. She says exactly these words: “A dark, handsome stranger comes. You afraid,” […]“But he vaits for you.” And “Seven of Vands. A battle.” […] “A battle without end.” […] “‘One vill fall, one vill fall...’” Haley tries not to pay attention on these words, but ,silly, she keeps looking for a dark, handsome stranger . But,the words “One vill fall” follow her everywhere. She is afraid to find out who will fall and why. In the summer holiday,Haley and Lacey go to their grandmother ,in Bidwell , MA. There, their herbal teacher is waiting for them. Last summer, Gisele taught them the mysteries of herbals and she showed them the magical world. With unicorns and dragons. Now, the girls are eager to find out more about their magical skills from her beloved teacher. But Haley was right. In Bidwell was an earthquake and the forest is infested with monster-spewing rifts , some terrible creatures. Gisele calls her nephews, Micah and Selena to help out. Selena is in love with Micah ,but Micah’s mind is at Haley. One day, Haley and Micah meet. They fall in love with each other immediately and Micah knows that she is The One. Though Gisele doesn’t like their relationship because Haley is just 14 and Micah is 16, they can’t keep the distance .Between them will develope a wonderful love story . But first, they have to focus on their huge problem. They have to save the forest and the world. If they won’t heal all the rifts , the terrible creatures will take possession not anly the forest, but the word too. In this way ,Haley will find out that she is stronger then she thought and that she is a Healer. The battle is hard. Do you want to know if Gisele,Haley,Micah,Lacey,Selena and Taylor will save the forest? Then read this amazing book and find out!

I received this book from the author herself as to give an honest literary review. Rift Healer was an amazing read, I could not put it down. This book is targeted for all audiences young and adult it is such a wonderful book you will truly enjoy it yourself. I found a part in here that made me chuckle quite a bit, "Taylor grabbed his blue plastic six-shooter. This is so stupid. We're going to get eaten and all they'll find is melted, plastic water guns." Now you will have to read this story to find this part and you will understand why I had to chuckle a bit. Rift Healer was unlike any book that I read before, it has different mythical creatures such as dragons, unicorns, fairies, tinker tinks, water sprites. I was very impressed with the way the story turned out and how everything combined together and did not miss a step. I was also amazed on how when the rift's were opened and creatures came out they weren't the "same" creatures every time, they were different, harder to fight. I thought the author did a wonderful job on that. Rift Healer is about a group of children no more than sixteen years old. Haley and Lucy (which are twin sisters), Taylor (Lucy's boyfriend), Gisele's great nephew Micah, and Selena. When a earthquake hits they all have a dangerous, exciting, summer. Not only are they fighting to help the forest where the good mythical creatures live, they are fighting to keep other rifts from not opening in other places they only have a time frame to do this. With a summer of fighting with magic pretty much there is a romance that will blossom between two characters. Diane, has done a wonderful job with the characters, the mythical creatures, and with the magic. Her story line goes together perfectly and makes me want to read more. I can not wait to read more from this author, she did a terrific job.

Reviewed by Anne B. for Readers Favorite "The Rift Healer" by Diane M. Haynes is a young adult fantasy sure to please readers. A small earthquake opened rifts allowing vile creatures to escape and terrorize the enchanted forest. Gisele turned to her friends for help but only two teenagers were willing to help, Micah and Selene. Haley and Lacey were fourteen year old identical twins, yet it was Haley that caught Micah’s attention. Micah may only be sixteen years old but already he had broken many hearts. Micah’s great-aunt Gisele was determined to keep him away from her best friend’s grand daughter. Haley was the more intuitive of the two girls. When she felt the earthquake it left her concerned. Soon she was experiencing nightmares and itchy palms. “The creatures must be destroyed or returned to the earth, and then the rifts must be closed and healed.” Haley had no idea about the power that lay dormant inside of her. "The Rift Healer" is an entertaining read. Author Diane M. Haynes combines fantasy, suspense, and romance to create a real page turner. The plot grabbed my attention early on and held it to the last page. The characters are fascinating, especially Haley and Micah. From the first chapter you know they are meant to be together. I can’t begin to describe all the cool things that happen in this book. Readers will be spellbound by people turning into trees and crystals, fighting trolls and scorpions, and taking a ride on a unicorn. I have always been fascinated by unicorns. Kudos to Diane M. Haynes.
