I serendipitously heard a track from this album on a BBC folk music show and was intrigued enough to buy it, based on Simpson's extraordinary guitar technique. Numerous listens later, the album has practically burned a hole in my CD player. It's hard to believe that Simpson is actually an English folkie from a particularly grim part of northern England. In this album he pays homage to the greats of the Mississippi delta with stunning fingerpicking, slide guitar and 5 string banjo. Whilst John Hardy and the Coo Coo Bird are the obvious standouts, the Devil's Partiality (the downpour at the end sends shivers down your spine) and Love Never Dies should not be overlooked. In fact, there's not a bad track. If you're looking for new music to enjoy, look no further. This is as good as it gets.
