A young educated woman from a wealthy family in central Kenya chooses to pursue a path less travelled by the well-educated and wealthy. In pursuit of her endeavors, she learns of the hard life experienced by fellow countrymen in a different community. Drought, famine, ignorance, domestic violence, retrogressive cultural practices, economic marginalization ethnic hostilities and inept political representation are just but some of the many predicaments that they contend with. Unlike others who quietly walk away leaving the affected citizens find their ways out of their macabre situations, she chooses to get involved and make a difference. However, in a highly ethnically polarized nation like Kenya, it is hardly possible to imagine that salvation can come from an outsider. Likewise, old cultural practices that have undermined their social and economic progress aren't just ready to go away and a political leadership that thrives on the civic ignorance of the masses isn't ready to let go.
Against this background change must come, and change doesn't come easy. Myths have to be shattered, women set free and children educated. Nevertheless, there is an ultimate price to be paid. But that's not all. Brace for banditry, military and police action, an epic courtroom battle and a historic election that threatens to tear the community apart.
Rising Above All is a tale of love and hate, apathy and empathy, hard work and determination that leaves no doubt that it is possible to stretch our courage beyond the threshold of fear, build business empires from scratch, change leadership without revolts, embrace change and transform our modest communities into vibrant societies.
