Overview

In this first installment of the action-packed and suspenseful Private Protectors series, a reignited flame might be permanently extinguished.

Michael Taylor is cooler than ice under pressure. As CEO of a private security company, his job means protecting those at risk. Clients pay top dollar for his team of special operatives to deal with threats. But now Michael’s the one in trouble—he’s the prime suspect in his ex-wife’s murder. To prove his innocence, Michael needs not just a few good men, but one smart woman. If she agrees to forgive him…

Twelve years ago, Michael walked away from Roxann Thorgesson and never looked back. Now he’s standing in her office, accused of a heinous crime, the vulnerability in his eyes barely masking something else. Desire. The shock—and her body’s own traitorous response—shakes Roxann to the core. Still, she can’t let lust cloud her professional judgment, no matter how tempting.

Michael needs her…or, rather, her newspaper to clear his name. Roxann wants to refuse, but journalistic instinct tells her there’s more to this case. Sex. Secrets. A dark and dirty cover-up leading all the way to city hall. And as the investigation brings Michael and Roxann closer together, revealing the truth threatens to rip them apart.

## I gave this book 4 stars for the mystery and intrigue component. I didn't really care for the romance. When a man ditches you 12 years prior with NO explanation after you planned to spend your life together and then marries someone else, he doesn't deserve another chance. Even after they reveal why he left (way too late in the book), that still holds true. What a stupid reason. And why would she help him after the years of anguish he caused her? YEARS. That is really the only thing I didn't like about the heroine. She kept demanding an answer as to "why”, he would refuse and then she'd still jump in bed with him. Ugh. Other than that, she was amazing with her strength and determination. And I really didn't like that the hero thought they could "just move on". He kept saying Let's not dwell on the past, leave it be.....Etc. I didn't feel enough remorse from him. Great crime drama, but romance lacking.

After having just completed reading Man Law and Negotiating Point (books two and three in the Private Protector series), I felt the need to go back to the beginning and read Michael and Roxanne’s story in Risking Trust...what a ride of continuous guessing (all wrong) to a wildly surprise ending that’ll blow you out of the water. Throw in off the charts ignitable chemistry, intelligent dialog...riddled with quirky banter and lightening fast repartee...and you have a story that proves just what a gifted author Adrienne Giordano is.

Roxann and Michael's story kept me guessing until the end--who really killed Michael's wife? Are all the odd things happening to Roxann related to Michael's troubles, or something else?--and kept me turning pages to make sure that they finally got to their HEA, of course! 12 years later than it should have been, but better later than never, right? Ms Girodano did a great job of blending the romance with suspense here. It's not always easy to show how a second chance romance could really work out the second time--but she managed to show us how that could work, too--without making it a forgone conclusion from the first page (well, except for the fact that it's a romance, so there better be an HEA ;)) Vic was hands-down my favorite secondary character here, with Gina a close second--so I was beyond excited to see that their book is next. I can't wait to read it! Rating: 4 stars / A- I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Adrienne Giordano’s Risking Trust Power packed, high octane emotional and suspenseful read!!! The story gets off to a fast, attention grabbing start never slowing down to the very last page. It is quite a tangled web of clues surrounded by deception, lies, murder, violence, devious conspiracies and many dark secrets. Michael Taylor, an expert in security runs his own elite, private, high profile agency after returning from the military. His partner is one of his former military brothers. Twelve years ago, Michael literally packed up all his belongings up and drive off with nary an explanation from the love of his life. He did look back but his efforts went awry. Roxann Thorgesson has just taken over as the owner of the Banner-Herald following the death of her father. Although it has been twelve years, Roxann has never stopped wondering why Michael abruptly left their relationship then later married another woman. Michael was in the process of divorcing his wife. Then out of the blue, Michael shows up at her office. He has come to tell Roxann that his company had taken over security of her company. But the main reason he has reached out to Roxann is to offer her an exclusive story in return for her helping prove that Michael is innocent of murdering his wife. What a request!!! A well executed romantic suspense with drama, twists, turns, multifaceted characters. I volunteered to read Risking Trust. Thanks to the author for the opportunity. My opinion is voluntary and my own.

You know when you read an author and you can totally tell the difference between their first book and first series from later works. They just seem to mature as an author; you notice less and less typos, word choices and smoothness flow better, their characters have better definition and personalities. I have read several books by Mrs. Giordano and I don't think she has these obvious awkward changes. I'm not saying that she hasn't grown as an author, she just started out as a spectacular author. Risking Trust, Mrs. Giordano’s first published book, is an amazing story. So filled with emotion that you can feel it. The struggle the characters have is easily recognizable and adaptable to your own. The excitement, mystery and suspense keeps you turning page after page; and the who done it? I seriously didn't see it coming. I whole heartily recommend Risking Trust and I look forward to reading the rest of this series.

Love the characters. Roxann and Michael have been through a lot. They had a rough start and it just got rougher. The people Roxann thought she could trust have betrayed her. Michael left her and twelve years later he is back asking her to help him clear his name. The police want to put him away for murdering his ex-wife. She doesn't really know Michael any more, but she knows he isn't a murderer. Everyone is trying to get her to change her mind. Why? Who can she trust? She doesn't know anymore.

Michael Taylor has made a success of his life. He's the man people come to when they need security and protection. Now he's the prime suspect in the murder of his estranged wife. Who can he go to for help? He knows who he needs. Roxann Thorgesson, his former girlfriend, is the publisher of a major Chicago newspaper. She has the courage and the drive to help him find the truth. These two working together are a powerful force. If only can they get past the pain of their breakup. I wanted them to rekindle their romance. Their love endured through their years apart. However, they have powerful enemies who have the resources to stop them. Adrienne Giordano kept me on the edge of my seat. I cared for the characters and wanted them to find the perpetrators and get justice, but it was a hard fight. The ending was a shock. This is a great beginning to the Private Protector series. I received a copy of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. My comments are my honest opinion.

This was my favorite book of the series so far. I really enjoyed the dynamics between Roxann and Michael. I usually base my opinion on a book on whether or not I want to purchase it (rather than go through the library) and this was one that I bought so I could read it multiple times and have read it twice in 2011. I liked how strong of a person Roxann was and she did not just fall back into Michael's arms and pick up where they left off. She made him work for her trust again and really wanted him to explain what happened to them so long ago. I enjoyed the suspense aspect of this book as well. I really had no idea who "did it" until the end and was shocked to find out! Roxann also learned a lot regarding things that happened in the past and about her mom, dad, and uncle. I felt so sad for her during these times but was glad Michael was with her to help her through. Vic was a great addition to the story (as he is in any story). You could tell that he cared a great deal for both Michael and Roxann. I enjoyed many of the scenes including Michael & Vic tag-teaming Roxann before a run as well as the "clean sheets" scenes! I like that Vic makes an appearance in all of her books so far, too. This book included great relationship dynamics, suspense, and just the right amount of steamy passion! Another great book by Adrienne Giordano!

Risking Trust (Private Protectors, #3) READ THIS ONE FIRST!!! For some reason this book is number three but the events in it take place before the other two books. This is Michael & Roxann’s story. Twelve years ago, Michael walked out on Roxann without explanation. Now he needs her help. Michael's estranged wife has been murdered and he is the prime suspect. This is a well told story and a good mystery.

I must admit I haven't read the two books before this one, but that's not really a problem since these books seem to be stand-alones. I really liked Roxann. I thought she was strong, smart, capable and honest. The perfect heroine in a romance where lost love was regained and misunderstandings finally laid to rest. I liked how real she was and how well suited Michael was to challenge the certainty in her character. The mystery is not overly complex. It did take me two thirds of the book to become relatively certain I knew who the real killer was (obviously not Michael, since this book's categorized as a romance-mystery), but once I did it seemed almost obvious. Anyway, the pacing was great. Not too rushed, and Michael's troubles with his wife's murders ran parallel with Roxann's troubles at her Newspaper Press. In the end their misunderstandings from so long ago also made perfect sense. It was the kind of problem real people - with pride that can be hurt, with feeling which can be manipulated, with a sense of hopelessness as too much time passes without explanations - face in their relationships. Some can get over it, and some like Michael and Roxann are forced to part ways. In their case, I'm glad they found their way back again. DICLOSURE: I received an ARC from netgalley and have tried to write as unbiased a review as I can.
