Introduction: The River, the second part of the Brian series by Gary Paulsen, author of the award-winning novel Hatchet, is an outstanding book. To read this book you must read Hatchet! This book will make you toss and turn in your sleep and it will make you beg to read more. In this part of the Brian series, Brian returns to the wilderness not far from the lake he crashed in before. The reason for him going back into the wilderness is a man from a governmental agency that specializes in survival. Description and summary of main points: After they take off from the airport to go into the wilderness, he recognizes all the gear they have in the back of the plane. When they land, Brian refuses to take the gear because someone in the predicament that he was in wouldn’t have all the gear they had. The only equipment he took was the radio, because his mother wanted them to be able to stay in contact. When they are in their shelter, their radio gets struck by lightning and so does Derek. After being struck by lightning he goes into a coma. Brian has to care for and make sure nothing happens to Derek. Brian builds a raft out of trees beavers have cut down. After building the raft, he makes a rough wood paddle. When they are traveling down the river there are many problems. The problems included sleep, staying on track, his hands being raw from the rough wood, worry of Derek falling off of the raft, the threat of waterfalls, and shallow places. Near the end of the book, there are many surprises in store. Evaluation: The reason I enjoy this book is because I love adventurous stories and the Gary Paulsen books. This book is one of his best books. If you like the outdoors then you will love this book. This book is also very well written. If you have ever read Hatchet then you will realize that it was a mistake to take the offer to go back into the wilderness. Conclusion: In conclusion The River by Gary Paulsen is a great book. It tells the adventurous spirit of Brian Robeson and Derek. It tells the spirit of a teenager that can survive with just a knife and a radio. The courageousness of Brian Robeson shows throughout the book.

I've read all of the books by Gary Paulsen with the story of Brian and "The River" is my favorite. He is a wonderful author. "The River" is a very adventurous and detailed book. It made me feel as if I was in the wilderness with the characters trying to survive. You won't be disappointed in this book. Like all the other books in this series it is very hard to put down. It makes you think of what you would do if you were Brian. Not only did it entertain me but also informed me. I learned a lot about survival in the wilderness.

on the story the river one the best story of the year by: the award winning author gray paulsen. Why readers should read the river is because it is a interesting book and has good details about what happens in the story. Also has a good settings and wear the setting ends. And in the story the river brain is finally back back from the wild but he does not be like the other boys in his school any more. So one day a guy name Derek told brain if he wanted to go back into the wild and do it all over again and then he walked away . So brian thought about it and said yes but when brian got there he thought to himself ''what have i done'' . So my favorite part in the story was when derek got struck by lightning and brian does not know what to do but brian never gives up about trying to save him. So what i think the type of readers that should read this is a person that likes adventurers because the river has a lot of stuff about being brave so i hop you have fun reading this book.

What a great book! I have two boys (8 and 10), we are always on the look out for an interesting and appropriate story. Gary Paulsen didn't disappoint. The River is adventure and excitement without all the edgy nonsense. My boys are enjoying the entire series.

I really like the whole series of Gary Paulsen along with Brian ( the main character ) !!! I rate this book a 4 out of five, because, I thought that a lot of parts where boring throughout the whole story but otherwise that, I think it’s a good book! I think that ages 10 and up should read it because its kind of complicated ( even for me and I’m 11). Also, I think adventurous readers should definitely read this book along with the who series! I would recommend this book to the people that I said earlier. I hope I gave you good info!!!!

The River Written by Gary Paulsen In the River, the military/government wanted to learn his ways of surviving in the wilderness. So they sent Derek Holtzer, a government psychologist, with Brian to the wilderness for taking notes. Derek got struck by lightning and is in a coma so Brian had to build a raft to go to the trading post but is the map correct? My favorite part is when Derek got struck by lighting because it had really good suspense. But Brian never gave up. This is a great book for adventurous readers because you get to know so much about the wilderness. This book has won and award- an IRA, CBC Children's Choice A Parent's Magazine Best Book of the Year

The River is an amazing book. Gary Paulsen is an out standing author. This book has an award. You should read this book because it is so exciting, adventures, and curious to make people keep reading. My favorite part in this book is when Derek got struck by lightning and Brian didn't know how to get Derek to safety. Brian built a raft to get to the trading post. In the award winning novel hatchet Brian said ''it was just luck'' but in The River he works hard to survive. This part is my favorite part because it is so descriptive. The people who will like this book are the people who like hatchet but with even more mystery.

Hatchet: The Return is about a boy called Brian Robeson. Just two years ago he had survived for forty-five days alone in the Canadian woods with only a hatchet. Now some men came to his house asking him to do it again Brian and his mom think it¿s crazy. But Brian still goes for it because he thinks everything is under control. I think the best part was when Brian was reflecting on how the time in the woods changed him because then you can see how he changed in detail. Hatchet: The Return is a perfect book for lovers of great adventures full of suspense and danger but it is even better for lovers of the first book in the series Hatchet. You will love Hatchet: The Return.

The River was a great book. I left me excited and unwilling to put the book down. One of these parts is near the middle when Derek gets put into a coma. This part was addicting and I couldn¿t put the book down. I think it was also hard to stop reading because I always wanted to find out what Brian was going to do next. I think The River was a great book.

The river is an amazing book by Gary Paulson it's really interesting book on how brain survives. Here’s quick summery on the book the government asked Brian to do it again in the Canadian wilderness! When he was in the woods there was a big storm that hit Derick got struck by lightning and he got in a coma. Soon he realizes that his radio transmitter got fried to. Brian has to think of a way to get rescued then he realizes he can build a raft and go up stream but he doesn’t know if his map is accurate. My favorite part is when he gets struck by lightning because it’s really detailed and interesting. I think it is more for ages 9-13 because it has some words they may not know.

I thought this book was ok but it trailed off on parts of the story. The book was good for little kids but for anyone with half a wit, over 10 it was useless. The back of the book told too much information. If you read the back of the book you knew the whole story before you even opened it.

The River… people call it many things but I call it fabulous. Made by Gary Paulson one of a kind book now here is a summary about The River. A man named Derek asked Brian to go back into the woods and teach him how he survived in the woods. While they are there, Derek gets struck by a lightning and Brian has to make a raft and go down a river to the nearest trading post. My favorite part was when Derek was struck by a lightning bolt because it was so upsetting and heartbreaking but so much action.

The River is a great book and it amazes me how good Gary Paulsen wrote it. The River is so good because we meet the character Brian. Brian finds ways to make things right by using his common since. Brian makes sure he has what he need. Brian has strong emotions and knows what he is doing. Now here is a short summary: In the book The River, by Gary Paulsen Brian lands in the wilderness again and leaves all supplies in the plane. He soon realizes he needed all supplies and he regrets his actions. If you want to hear the ending you have to read the book. Let me just tell you my favorite part is when they find a place to rest and he finds many things that come in handy. If you are a type of person that likes adventure then you would love this book. Also it for ages 11 and up probably. Hope you like it.
