I loved this series until now. I bought a book not a preview, which is all I got. The author should have delayed publication until the story had some sort of conclusion. Wondering how long I’ll have to wait for the next installment, if it ever even gets published...

Anna Kronberg, who continues to go by Dr. Elizabeth Arlington since moving to Boston, is getting back to her version of normalcy after the harrowing events that took place in Silent Witnesses. Things don’t stay quiet for long. Inspector McCurley solicits her help with a new case; A young boy has been found with a dead body. The investigation leads them to an unexpected place as they help the boy and try to figure out what happened.
In addition to the crime-solving, we also learn more about a few characters we already know (and love) and are introduced to some new ones, good and evil, who are sure to make an appearance in the next book in the series. The story moves along at a quick pace and keeps you guessing. The author continues to do her research, all the little details about life in 1890’s Boston are depicted accurately.
I’m always left wanting more when finishing books in this series. For me, they are never long enough. I could read about Anna and her adventures in a 1000 page mega-mystery novel, but then I would have to wait forever for it and I’m too impatient for that.
River of Bones, and the whole Anna Kronberg series for that matter, is a definite must read for fans of historical mysteries.
