About the Author

About Tess
Like most of her characters, Tess Thompson hails from a small town and will always feel like a small town girl, despite the fact she’s lived in Seattle for over twenty-five years. She loves music and dancing, books and bubble baths, cooking and wine, movies and snuggling. She cries at sappy commercials and thinks kissing in the rain should be done whenever possible. Although she tries to act like a lady, there may or may not have been a few times in the last several years when she’s gotten slightly carried away watching the Seattle Seahawks play, but that could also just be a nasty rumor.

She currently lives in a suburb of Seattle, Washington with her brand new husband, the hero of her own love story, and their Brady Bunch clan of two sons, two daughters and five cats, all of whom keep her too busy, often confused, but always amazed. Yes, that’s four kids and five cats. Pray for her.

In Riverbend, the second book in The River Valley Collection, author Tess Thompson once again weaves an entertaining tale that transports the readers back to the small town of River Valley, Oregon, where they revisit with the unforgettable townsfolk and follow the story of Annie Bell. The reader was introduced to Annie Bell in the first book of the collection, Riversong, where she is the gourmet chef at the restaurant. Now in this book, Annie's abusive past is catching up with her when the restaurant's success is in the media, drawing danger and drama her way. With a continuity of characters (old and new) and subtle revisiting of the storyline from the first book, the author weaves an intriguing story filled with flashbacks to Annie's traumatic past with ex-boyfriend Marco, who resurfaces in an attempt to get revenge and destroy her new life. Annie sought to create a new life for herself and her ten year old son Alder in River Valley, now with their life in danger, she finds refuge and love with the mysterious wealthy recluse Drake Webber. Both Annie and Drake are hiding dark secrets from their pasts, and as their relationship develops, they slowly realize they are falling in love with one another. The story is filled with enough secrets, danger, suspense and romance that keeps the reader guessing and turning the pages. Once again author Tess Thompson has written another heartwarming story filled with romance, secrets, drama and suspense that keeps the reader wanting more. Riverbend is a wonderful story of community, friendship, hope, love, and the ability to overcome even the most traumatic of life experiences. Fans of The River Valley Collection will get another visit to this wonderful Oregon town with the story of Drake's sister Bella in the third book of the collection, Riverstar, that will be released on August 28, 2013!

Beautiful I didn't get to read the first book in the series, but this book makes me want to and to read the rest of the series. Finding love again for Drake after he thought he couldn't after his wife and daughter were killed. Annie find a man that didn't scare or abuse her was what she needed and to also protect her son.

A very compeling story that kept my interest after the first couple of chapters. Has a couple of sexual scenes.

Annie doesn't realize that she is a strong and competite woman. She got herself out of bad situation to save her child. She has an eating disorder that I can understand after being physically and verbally abused she goes to the extreme of eating very little and exercising to excess. The only love she has had ever is the love of her son. In moving to Riverbend she now also has the love her friends. It sounds like a wonderful place to live. Can't wait to read the other stories!

Story-line could have been almost real, except for the magic river, the empathetic coyotes and the white unicorn ... oh, wait a minute, the unicorn was really a helicopter piloted by a gaya inkeeper. Looking for the next story.

The heroine is anorexic. The hero has panic/anxiety disorder. Ex-husband abusive. Very difficult to find the romance in this story.

Riverbend takes you back to River Valley and the charming misfits at Riversong. Annie is a wonderful character that fits right in at Riversong. With the added suspenseful element, this story takes a darker turn when Annie Bell must take measures to protect herself from an angry and vengeful ex. Along with the ragtag team at Riversong Annie learns that friendship, community, hope, and love can just about conquer anything! Riverbend is the second installment in the River Valley series and endears its characters even closer to our hearts! I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

First I would like to thank the author Tess Thompson for this book for an honest review.  I have not read Riversong yet, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading Riverbend.  Annie was young and to get away from her home situation jumped into a relationship with Marco who ends up be a very abusive man.  When she finds out she is pregnant she makes a decision to get away from him for good and he ends up in jail for trying to beat her to death and drugs.  She ended up in Riverbend when she got into a relationship with another man that was mentally abusive.  She left him but stayed in Riverbend and has a very colorful group of friends.  Marco received ten years in prison.  Annie was happy taking care of her son and being a chef and partner with Lee in their restaurant.  Drake is a man who Annie runs into and is asked to come cook meals once a week because he plans to become a recluse.  She accepts and on her first day she gets a call from her ex Marco.  Annie is now terrified and also worried how all her friends will react because she never told them about Marco.  Her friends rally to help protect her and the safest place for her and her son to stay is with Drake.  Annie and Drake both have their own past demons to overcome as they fall in love.  I applaud Tess for taking on and doing a good job writing about abuse and how people react and deal with it.  It takes some a long time to learn to trust people.  Great job Tess keep up the good work.
