Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
What type of rock is so hard that it can cut through steel? A diamond, of course. This book will teach children about three different types of rocks—igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. The simple text and colorful illustrations help young readers explore various types of rocks. The scientific explanations in this "Amazing Science" series are clear and simple. Children who have never learned the concept will be able to quickly understand through the text and illustrations. Rocks explains the Mohs Hardness scale, a list of 10 minerals, from the softest to the hardest. The experiments/projects listed include starting a rock collection and making a sandstone brick. This is an excellent science series that teaches through hands-on experiments. 2003, Picture Window Books,

This is a basic introduction to different types of rocks. It is nice for the early grades. The illustrations are wonderful. My kindergartners really enjoyed it.
