Human evolution is put back on track thanks to the Red Sun Millennia causing the failure of all electric-based technology. Only the strongest of gene pools and adaptations survive. This is the story of one of these new "species". Roe is a Furry with such abilities has heightened smell, excellent night vision and of course a soft coating of bright orange fur. Captured into slavery since childhood by a "normal" human, she must now make her way back to the tribe and family that she was stolen from and attempt to rescue her adopted slave-mother, another Furry, before her master does the unthinkable.

I havent been so absorbed in a book since the Harry Potter series. This is nothing like Harry Potter though. Its not a magical world, but a wonderfully envisioned, original, and detailed post apocolyptic world that sucks you in and delivers.
This book hooked me from the start. I always am a little nervous when reading sci-fi or anything close to, because I get so agitated when it's just obviously made up. No reason for anything, no actual science, or theories as to why the situation is... and I was delighted to find this book was not only well thought out, but also well researched! Roe is a very easy to love character, spunky, and full of life. Eric Johnson managed to capture so many emotions in her, and portray them in a way that really made me feel like I was there with her. I hardly set this book down at all while reading it, and was so into it, I was delighted to find that as it felt like it was wrapping it up, and I still had half a book to go! It was a nice surprise to find that this is actually more like a book and its sequel all rolled into one. The two halves flow together well, and wrap up the story beautifully. I would recommend this book to anyone into sci-fi. Anyone into post-apocalyptic books. Anyone in general, even if you aren’t a big sci-fi fan. I’m willing to bet after a couple pages you’ll be into it!
