About the Author

Trudi Canavan lives in Melbourne, Australia. She has been making up stories about people and places that don’t exist for as long as she can remember. Her first short story, “Whispers of the Mist Children”, received an Aurealis Award for Best Fantasy Short Story in 1999. Soon after, her bestselling Black Magician Trilogy was published, followed by another trilogy, Age of the Five. In 2006 she was offered a seven-figure advance to write the prequel and sequel to the Black Magician Trilogy. The prequel, The Magician’s Apprentice won the Aurealis Award for Best Fantasy Novel in 2009.

While I'm enjoying the series and I've started the 3rd book, I wish the world was a little more developed. She does a good job with the characters, but the world seems a little, bland I guess. The plot is sometimes predictable, but the writing style keeps me engaged in the story line.
