First an advisory: I had a chance to read the first book in this series, Assassin's Touch, when I was judging for the NERFA (First Coast Romance Writers' published author contest) this year, so I was really excited to see this book available on Net Galley ... once I realized why the idea of the Iron Portals and Cascadia/Pacifica sounded so familiar. Heh. I read too much. Oh, wait, there's no such thing as too much reading. Okay, on to the review. Wow, Ms. London starts the action off with a bang (literally, there's a massive explosion in the first couple of chapters) and never lets off on the intensity. Olivia's been on the run for several years. In this alternate reality, some people have developed Talents (in Olivia's case, she's a healer), and they are forcibly put into the army or hunted down and then forced into the Army after some reconditioning. Not pleasant. She's getting ready to move out of New Seattle when the place she's working blows up and that's how she encounters Asher. Asher's in Olivia's world hoping to avenge the death of a friend of his who died at the hands of a man called The Fixer. He's following up on an informant's lead when he goes to the nightclub across from where Olivia works and happens to see a couple of figures planting the bomb. Many people die in the explosion and the Army blames the Cascadians for it, though Asher knows that it was actually the Army, trying to keep inciting the people toward more war and bloodshed against his people. Unfortunately, Asher also got injured and Olivia heals him, but she gets caught on tape and is reported as a potentially Unregistered Talent to the Army. The Army sends their best tracker to get her. You can guess who that is. Meanwhile, as the Army tracks Olivia, she and Asher are getting close. Asher initially is unwilling to get involved beyond a simple week-long fling (where she's his sex slave no less), because of a bad experience when he fell in love with another girl on this side of the portal. Olivia was really strong and determined not to let Asher shove her behind him for protection purposes, so to speak. She likes to give as good as she gets and when they're not having sex, she doesn't let him get away with any chauvanistic behavior without calling him on it. Asher's bemused by her and I love how well he's integrated himself into the world on this side of the Iron Portals. I enjoyed the quick look we got at the couple from the first book, who are busy setting up safe houses for Cascadians coming through the help stop the army from finding any more of the portals. The only thing I didn't like in this book, and why it's a 4.5 star instead of a 5, is because of just how they end up dealing with the Fixer. I felt it was sort of anticlimactic. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the situation resolved itself, but it was just .... dealt with largely off camera and after the horrible stuff the man did, I wanted to see revenge. Yes, I'm blood thirsty. There were definitely plot threads left open, including one that features Olivia's brother, her twin brother who was taken by the Army many years earlier. I hope Ms. London doesn't make us wait too long until we get a story about Vincent! Loved this book tons! Book provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

There is worlds within worlds and secret portals that only a few traverse. The Iron Guild warriors hold the portal's secrets sacred and only use the portals to protect their world. The army, on the modern world side wants to exploit the powers "talents" of the people behind the portals. Olivia Crawford has kept a low profile for years. She has an extraordinary ability to heal. She lives in the modern world. If the army discovers her ability they will drag her away just like they did to her brother 5 years before. When a bomb explodes in front of the wine bar she works at she uses her abilities to help those about to die, revealing herself to a very dangerous enemy...the army. Her ability is also noticed by the Iron Guild Warrior Asher Kane who needs her healing so he can escape the army's torture and certain death. When Olivia risks her own health to help Asher a bond is formed. Asher knows he shouldn't get involved with someone from this world but he can't help but be drawn to Olivia.  Pursued by a known Iron Guild warrior killer, Olivia and Asher must watch their every step or become a victim in this war for power. This is a dynamic and fast paced story. The characters are refreshing and engaging. The plot thickens, we learn more of the lengths the army will go to control the talented humans. Olivia's and Asher's relationship develops quickly and is hot and heavy. Bringing her to his home away from home, the garage, we meet more energizing and interesting characters.  A very original twisting a Fae fantasy with modern earth, Rogue's Passion is a highly entertaining and sexually steamy read.  I received this copy of Rogue's Passin from Aspendawn Books in exchange for a honest review. I enjoyed this. The main characters are a great pairing. I like the way they interact, and how their initial attraction morphs into something more. It does a good job as part two of the series; it builds on the overarching storyline without rehashing too much of the first book. Copy gifted in exchange for an honest review.

Gifted in exchange for an honest review. The Iron Portal Series #2 Rogue's Passion is another installment by Laurie London.   This series has it all!  Great characters, romance, action, and a fantasy world to enjoy. Our couple involves Guild Warrior Asher and his true love Olivia a "Healer Talent".  Those with :"Talent" are searched out by the army and then forced into military prison.  Control is taken from them and some even their lives. Olivia has been on the run since the army took her brother Vince and killed her father.  Vince had "Talent" and is her twin.  Asher's world of Cascadia is blamed for all the destruction being done by the army.  So...when a bomb goes off leaving Asher injured turning to Olivia's healing power is fate. Although this is the second in the series; it can be read as a stand alone.  But why would you?

Asher and Olivia actually make a very good couple, although Asher does come across as a bit of a tool to begin. In his defence, he is injured and worried about his dog... but still. Olivia is traumatised as a bomb has just exploded nearby and people are injured and dying. The ability to control her healing talent is hard at the best of times but in circumstances like this, near impossible. Due to Asher toning down his attitude, Olivia realises that he isn't actually as bad as she originally thought. Just in time too, as two Army Investigative Unit officers arrive on the scene. An unregistered Healer talent and a Cascadian barbarian would not go down well. Luckily they help each other and are able to leave. Things heat up pretty quickly after that although they both agree that it is only for a week, to begin with. They both have history that makes them wary with the thought of commitment.  Cameo appearances are made by Neyla and Rickert as well as a few others from Book 1.  Well-written and fast-paced, Olivia and Asher work well and play hard. This is an intense and sometimes steamy novella which carries on perfectly with the Iron Portal series. Definitely recommended and looking forward to the next one. ~ 4 Rogue Stars ~  Rogue’s Passion is book two in the Iron Portal series by Laurie London. It takes place slightly after Assassin’s Touch ended. Asher had lost a dear friend and he is seeking revenge. I was a little disappointed in this book, I enjoyed it, but not as much as Assassin’s Touch.  Olivea, is a Healer-Talent and has kept under the raider of the militant forces that want to use all Talent’s wither they want to go or not. I felt her talent never got used to it’s full potential. Asher, an Iron Guild warrior. Asher is attractive, has no talent, and is not looking for a permeant relationship. I liked the softer side that we got to see of him.  Olivia and Asher had good chemistry with each other. They played their roles well. We do get some pretty yummy scene’s between Asher and Olivea. I enjoyed Asher’s dominance. The ”finger” action was unexpected and something you usually don’t see.  The world building was ok! Could have been better. I miss the other realm that the Portal’s lead too. We really don’t get much of the Iron Guild’s world in this book like we did in Assassin’s Touch. The interaction between the characters was enjoyable. Rickert and Neyla do make an appearance and we learn something about them. I liked Rand as a secondary character he brought us some perspective. Their is a little action, but not as much as I would have liked.  Overall, Rogue’s Passion was an enjoyable read. It is part of the Dark and Deadly box set. I’m interested to see what takes place next in the Iron Portal series.

3.5 Stars ~Reviewed by ANGELA & posted at Under the Covers Book Blog This book took off slightly after Assassin’s Touch had ended. Asher had just lost a dear friend, and he is out for revenge. Unfortunately, the humans who are in war with them isn’t as easy defeat. They are knowledgeable of what Cascadians are capable of, and they are known to take them for their own selfish needs. While the Iron Portal warriors are fierce, they are not invincible. When Asher gets hurt from an explosion, Olivia uses her healing power to help him. Of course, the fierce warrior falls for her from then on. Though, I did not enjoy it as much, Rogues Passion was equally intriguing as Assassin’s Touch. I liked Asher and Olivia, I thought they played their roles well. The only thing is that their relationship was a bit fast for me. But I do have to admit, Ms. London had put more of an “umph” in the steam department. Let’s just say there was a “finger” action that was totally unexpected and something you do not usually see in Ms. London’s books. The world building was good, and it was nice to see the other characters including Rickert from Assassin’s Touch. I do wish there were more scenes in Cascadia which I found very fascinating. Overall, Rogue’s Passion was an enjoyable read. I can’t wait to see where Ms. London takes this series. Review provided by publisher
