About the Author

Sitting here at the age of 39, almost 40, I feel fortunate to be sitting here with my family and friends. All I can say is one thing and that is, "Jesus brought me through"
I was born a very healthy baby on August 25, 1977. Life was perfect as my mom was a housewife, my dad was working in a job that he loved so much, and my brother and I were young and growing kids. Life was perfect, and nothing could be better until...
One day after my dad got off from a long day at work all of us wanted to go out for an evening drive.. First we stopped off at Walmart to get some household items. Afterwards all of us got into our 1980 Ford Pinto My dad was seated in the drivers seat, my mom in the front passenger seat, my brother seated behind my mom, and I seated behind my dad. 7:00 PM a drunk driver who was also high on drugs failed to stop at the stop sign.
The life of my family was turned upside down. All of us left injured. My mom and brother only received broken bones. However as for my dad and I, we received injuries that to this day doctors have not been able to find a cure for.
As I awoke from a two month coma I wondered where I was. I thought I was stuck in an awful nightmare with no way out. Unable to move the left side of my body I felt scared.
"Help someone, help me," I said as I turned my head from the left side of the room to the right. I saw my dad in a hospital bed.
"Dad what are you doing over there? Come and help me. I feel cold and need another blanket. It is very cold in this room."
"I'm sorry son. I can not help you as I can not even help myself. Let me call the nurse to get another blanket for you."
"OK dad what can we do to get out of here. I want to go home."
"All we can do is pray, my son, and have faith in God Almighty and he will help us." That is exactly what we did many times as I spent seven months in that rehab that I often called a prison. as there was no way out and no easy way back home.
Every part of my life after my release from the rehab was a challenge and full of big uphill climbs. From learning new material in school, making friends, walking, and talking. I had to learn how to do everything all over again.
I hope my story will help everyone to make wise decisions and not drink and drive. I don't want anyone else to have to experience the pain that I have had to. For more information please go to
