** spoiler alert ** This book has an amusing premise. After the death of her famous writer husband, "federal agents" demand the manuscript of his last book from Lacy; a manuscript she does not have and knows nothing about because her husband had been so secretive about this book. Lacy finds out her husband was formerly a spy and has hidden the manuscript in pieces. She has to follow the Romantic Road, finding his previous lovers and learning about his past in order to find the manuscript and carry out his final wishes. The journey is full of surprises, misunderstanding, betrayal, and mystery. The story has a good mix of mystery and romance. I especially liked the portion set in Vienna, as it reminded me of my time there. I think the reader will enjoy the ending. Review copy provided via Reading Alley in exchange for an honest review.

Romantic Road has something to please everyone, beginning with top notch writing. Blair McDowell has penned another riveting tale chock full of danger, suspense, romance and mystery. I’m quite sure the book grew tentacles and wrapped around me because I found it impossible to look up until I’d turned the final page. I confess, I was a willing prisoner. The fast paced plot takes readers on a superb journey, beginning in New York and extending through several European countries. It’s obvious the author is well traveled because of her attention to detail. Rather than use a heavy hand with descriptive prose, Ms. McDowell delicately adds enticing tidbits of local flavor then blends them seamlessly into the story. I loved the heroine’s character arc. Her growth and development was expertly crafted, making Lacy Telchev believable but more importantly, likable.Romantic Road is a story with twists and turns, several subplots, and a great unraveling of the mystery behind Lacy's husband. Add it to your reading list, then READ it! This novel is too good to remain unopened.

Reviewed by Jack Magnus for Readers' Favorite Romantic Road is a romantic suspense novel written by Blair McDowell. Lacy Telchev is too young to be a widow, and her whirlwind courtship and all-too-brief marriage to charismatic writer, Igor Telchev, ends when he dies after suffering a second heart attack. Igor's first attack, several years before that, however, seemed to cause a major divide in their married life, so Lacy's bereavement has been happening for a while now. Their attorney, Richard, has informed her that she's set financially for life, but Lacy's already decided to return to her job as a spontaneous interpreter. Igor's death, however, has stirred up a storm of controversy and intrigue. Lacy's car is stopped by strange men who demand that she produce Igor's manuscript, which he had been working on for the last two years. When her home is vandalized and a good friend injured, Lacy decides to leave NYC for a while. She's found a letter addressed to her from Igor, and he's asked her to retrieve sections of his manuscript that he's entrusted to friends in Europe. It seems the perfect opportunity to both honor his wishes and leave a frightening situation. Blair McDowell's romantic suspense novel, Romantic Road, is exciting and fast-paced. Lacy is a strong and appealing character whose fairy-tale marriage has abruptly ended, leaving unanswered questions and danger. The quest Igor sets for her leads her and the reader on a marvelous trip through Canada, Austria and Hungary, and the author's familiarity with each of these venues makes Lacy's adventures truly come alive. Her unlikely traveling companion, Max, is a perfect foil for her. One thing that stands out in Romantic Road is how Lacy's character seems to get stronger and more resilient even as she battles betrayal and danger, and she comes face-to-face with Igor's previous women. It's a joy to watch her confidence bloom even as she faces peril at every turn. I enjoyed reading Romantic Road and recommend it.

Romantic Road by Blair McDowell is a great romantic suspense novel. Lacy Telchev is mourning the loss of her husband, Igor, of five years. After his death Lacy discovers that he was working on one last novel that would expose corruption within different governments. Turns out her husband had been a spy before he married Lacy and that was not the only secret he was keeping from Lacy. He sends her on a dangerous mission to recover his book and discover his past. Igor left the chapters with various ex-lovers around Europe. Lacy with the help of friends sets off on a dangerous journey. Lacy meets up with Max Peterson. Max decides to help Lacy on her quest and keep her safe from the people trying to stop her from getting her hands on the manuscript. Romantic Road is an enjoyable book to read (I stayed up until 3 a.m. to finish it). I loved the mystery and intrigue in this book. I was shocked by all of Igor's secrets. I also enjoyed the romance between Max and Lacy. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars. I look forward to reading more books by Blair McDowell. Happy Reading!   Lacy couldn't believe it. Her husband of just five short years gone.  How empty her life would be without him. Then again, the past few years hadn't been terrific.  Not knowing what to do, Lacy drove to their cabin.  She'd spend some time there and relax. Work out the problems.  It was on the trip there her life began to take a turn.  Soon, Lacy would reach out to friends in Canada where things would get darker than ever. Did she even know her late husband?   Lacy's journey was just beginning.      This book is a terrific suspense/romance book. I loved that it covered so much of the world in telling the story. I felt as if I were viewing the sites myself, not second hand.  I could relate to the female main character. I've had friends who went from "nobody" to "Mrs. Park Avenue".  I loved the uniqueness of it as well.  It touched me deeply.  You'll enjoy this easy read.       I did find issues. It was slowly paced and seemed a little out of sequence in the last four chapters.  Those are the only things I had a problem with.        I gave this one 4 cheers out of 5 because of the issues I noted.   ~Copy of book provided by author in exchange for a fair review~
