Overview

A Rose for My Mother: A Memoir by Nancy Lee Canfield

In this extraordinary true story, parapsychology expert Nancy Lee Canfield reveals how her early years shaped and prepared her for a lifetime of studying the paranormal. A Rose for My Mother chronicles Canfield's turbulent childhood in and out of foster homes and orphanages before the age of thirteen, her early marriage at seventeen, and her awakening to paranormal phenomena. A Rose for My Mother is an intriguing blend of memoir and the study of parapsychology.

"Learning only occurs in response to challenges, and Nancy has written an absorbing account of how, in her case, overcoming incredible challenges has led to the emergence of a higher intelligence. It is not only a tale of triumph over adversity, but of the certainty of rescue from hopelessness."
Edward Green,PhD, Emeritus, Guerry Professor of Psychology

"Against the backdrop of her family's heartbreaking difficulties during the Great Depression, this story begins with a little girl who tries valiantly to understand the meaning of grown-ups' rather confusing words and silences. Her intuitive successes told the adults that she managed well and was self-confident, but they left her feeling isolated and unloved. Does everyone have higher sensory perception? Nancy shows us that with focused work and discipline, we can nurture that infant part of us so that it can help us enjoy life to the fullest."
Dr. Joan Ashkin,EdD, LCSW, RN

If you enjoy reading about overcoming hardships to become successful, this is the book for you. It starts by telling us about the author's struggles growing up during the Depression. It is a story of family love and how the author learned to accept what happened to her as a child and as an adult in a difficult first marriage. It show us the resiliency of the human spirit and how one individual overcomes the difficulties in life to become a successful person in her own right.

I initially found this book very good and had a hard time putting it down. The story of the writer's youth till adulthood was a good story, with some parts that seem to ramble but was able to be overlooked. The unfortunate part came probably around chapter nine..totally lost interest in reading this book. actually had to force myself to finish. very disappointing end to a rather interesting life only to get messed up with the spirits and occult. not a recommend at all. Glad I didn't recommend it to anyone before I got to the last few chapters.

Do you believe in the paranormal? Do you think some people are more 'sensitive' than others? I have absolutely no experience with the paranormal. I've never seen anything or heard anything that lets me know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it exits. However that doesn't stop me from being fascinated on the subject. That is one of the reasons I decided to read this book. However this book is much more than a woman's experience with the paranormal. This book is about a woman's survival. There were parts of this memoir that are heart wrenching. Literally. Sometimes it was very hard to read. But if Nancy Lee Canfield can live through her experiences, I should be able to read about them. She lays her story all on the table for us. The good, the bad and the ugly. She starts with her earliest memories of her childhood and takes us through to her adult hood. She has included details that I'm sure were hard for her to write about. Nancy Lee Canfiield survived by strength, faith and persevering. She also documents her earliest paranormal experiences and how she became attuned to the paranormal world. I found this entire book interesting. I am thankful to Nancy Lee Canfield for sharing her experiences and wisdom with the world.

Set against the backdrop of a difficult home environment, Nancy's early life was anything but stable. Before the age of thirteen, she'd been in and out of five foster homes - not to mention an eventful stint in an orphanage - and by the time she turned seventeen, she found herself married and still trying to get a handle on her often bewildering emotions. On top of all else, as time progressed, Nancy began to experience an increasing number of paranormal events, the lasting effects of which would forever change the way in which she saw the world. In light of the quite unusual track that her life has taken, it's no surprise that she has now become an inspiring model for those who continue to struggle in the face of perpetual adversity. Throughout the pages of A Rose For My Mother, author Nancy Lee Canfield shares her stirring true life story of ultimate triumph. Beginning with the difficulties of her early childhood, Nancy was forced to learn how to adapt to ever-changing situations and environments as she struggled to secure her own place in a thoroughly confusing world. On top of all else, her tenuous grip on "reality" was eventually challenged by the parapsychological gifts buried deep within her. Despite it all, though, Nancy proved to be quite the resilient spirit - and remains so to this day - due in large part to her considerable resolve, as well as her unfailing belief in the power of making dreams come true. A touching memoir, A Rose For My Mother is an engaging, uplifting read. An encouraging reminder that the greatest blessings always await those who refuse to give up on the path to claiming them.
