Rosita Valdez will make a great serial character. Gentle character lessons and reader involvement help take this young reader story above the usual expectations. The eight-year-old heroine lives on a Pacific Island plantation with her extended family in a house with a past. Rosita and her friends love to swim, and when Rosita meets a shy sea turtle, the reader is left to guess whether the little girl's imagination has run away with her or not. Although the main character is eight, the length of the chapter book and vocabulary is geared more toward middle elementary readership.

Love the moral teachings of this book. It's great to see character books for children.

Rosita Valdez and the Giant Sea Turtle is a great adventure for any child to take. Rosie's knack for finding fun things to do (and getting into mischief) keeps the audience engaged. I love how Rosie learns many lessons and discovers reasons for doing the right thing. The story is also a fun kids are still asking if Toby is real or imaginary!

Great chapter book for my early elementary aged children. They loved it. I appreciate the strong family values and the way the book deals with honesty. It was stated this was the first in a series. Looking forward to seeing the next one come out.
