Divorced mother, Allie Emerson, never imagined she'd be raising two teenage girls on her own. Between parenting and paying the bills, she hasn't even thought about meeting a man. That changes once she hears local carpenter, Braden Fox, is in need of a secretary. Back in high school, Allie had done all she could to deny the sparks burning between her and Braden; but would the chemistry still be there after all this time?

Braden has heard all about what Terrance did to Allie and the girls, has been planning to stop by and see how she's getting along, but Allie beats him to it by showing up at his shop in search of a job. Her unexpected visit reignites the old flame Braden used to torch for her; trouble is, old feelings of resentment return as well. Allie did choose Terrance over him, after all. And as much as Braden wants Allie in his life, he's not sure he can open his heart to her again.

With this second chance at romance, will the bumps in their relationship be too much to get over,
or will this carpenter learn to smooth out the past?

Kimberly Krey’s debut novel, Rough Edges, is a heartwarming work of romance that readers are sure to hold close to their hearts. It was a fairly long read of about 320 pages, and touches upon the aspects of family, friends, love, and second chances.  Allie Emerson never thought she would be a divorced mother raising two teenagers by herself, while simultaneously trying to manage her jewelry business, but sometimes reality hits people hard. When Allie is informed that the local (and very attractive) carpenter is in need of a secretary, she jumps at the chance. However, will the old sparks between her and Braden, her ex-husband’s best friend, ignite again? Is he the man and support system Allie wants, and needs, in her life? Like many other books, I had my likes and dislikes. I liked how the author didn’t reveal all the details in the story at once. It made me want to keep on reading. I applaud the author for creating such three dimensional characters that I could relate to. There were people in my life who fit the descriptions of almost all of the characters in the novel. I also liked how the author provided different point of views throughout the story so that it never got boring.  On the other hand, one dislike I had was that the book left me with a lot of unanswered questions. The book was also quite slow paced for me.  In the end, I recommend this book to absolutely everyone who is looking for a great, well written, and heartwarming story to read.

COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN. I loved to be able to read Allie’s story you get to read about her a bit in the Montana Bride series since she is their cousin. I love when an Author takes the characters from their other books and gives them their own stories because you sometime find yourself wanting to make one up for them as well. This one definitely had come good steam in it!!! The romance scence were more intense than the other books but she still kept them very clean. It was a great book and I loved Aille and Braden’s story and was glad they were able to get together after so many years! Can’t wait to read the next one in this series… Love Kimberly’s books!

I am so glad to have been given a complementary copy of this book by Inspired Kathy in exchange for my honest review. I enjoyed Kimberly Krey's Sweet Montana Bride Series so much that I knew I would like Rough Edges too. Allie is newly divorced and wants a fresh start to her life. She wants a job to add to the income from her own business so when her mother tells her that Braden needs a secretary for his wood shop, she applies for the position. It was hard for her to approach Braden for a job because she crushed on him in high school but let him get away and never forgot about him. When she applies for the position Braden tells her he doesn't need a secretary so she walks away. Braden regrets it immediately because he remembers the feelings he had and, still has, for Allie and doesn't want to mess up the chance to get to know her again. The next day Braden goes to Allie's house and hires her as his secretary, hoping he can handle seeing her every day. I liked the second chance at love theme to Rough Edges and the way the author clearly shows how much they want each other but don't let sex take over. It was nice to see the characters where a bit older and more mature than the twenty-somethings so often in novels. The book is a great read and definitely captures the reader in the story line, but that wouldn't work if she didn't have good characters. The character development in this story is quite in depth. You get to know a great deal about the main characters, their lives, and their histories. Allie's teenage daughters added another dimension to the story with their diverse personalities. Jilian was always so thoughtful and kind to everyone that nobody noticed the difficult time she was having with her parent's divorce. Paige was a very difficult girl to like because she rarely said anything nice to anyone. Her mother's coddling just made her attitude worse but Braden saw the real Paige and broke through the barriers she put up. I appreciated the fact that the characters had a history with one another. They weren’t strangers who ran into each other on the street one day and magically fell head over heels in love, but rather had gone to high school together. This intriguing story line is brought together by Kimberly’s brilliant skills as a storyteller.  I absolutely love this author. I don’t think that I’ve read a single piece of her work that hasn’t held me captive. This story definitely holds up to that standard.

Rough Edges is a astonishingly breath taking journey of two broken and hurting hearts rediscovering the transforming power and the limitless promise of a love that even time itself could not erase or diminish. The tremendous daring and courage that it took for these two souls to step out and risk the most vulnerable and hidden parts of themselves display the depth of their longing and the intensity to fill the emptiness in their heart. The heart knows what it wants and no imitation no matter how pretty or genuine it may seem will ever be acceptable. Our souls long for honest passion and undeniable devotion in order to bring true fulfillment and nurture joy into our lives without which each step we take and each breath we breathe are weighed down with an insurmountable burden that only true love can lift. Allie Emerson has watched her life slowly crumble before her eyes. Years of pain and disappointment have brought her emptiness, divorce, and a family struggling to find some stability in the aftermath of the storm left by her ex-husband Terrance. She is desperately trying to hold not only herself together but also her two teenage daughters who are grappling just as hard to make sense of the madness that is their life. Not wanting to lose herself any further, Allie takes a step out of her comfort zone and dares to go in search of the faintest possibility of love. It is better to have tried and failed then to wonder what if for the rest of her life, so she holds her breath and takes the dangerous dive back into the life of Braden Fox. Braden is a simple man who likes his uncomplicated life. He isn’t looking for love, but when Allie comes back into his life, she makes him question what he really wants. Can he really risk his heart to the one woman who shattered it? Can Allie truly bring love back into her life without risking any additional hurt to her already broken family? I can’t imagine how hard life would be to live a day in Allie’s shoes. She is a tremendous character who puts her whole heart into taking care of her two girls. Knowing the pain she carries from the divorce, she tries all she can to stay sensitive and loving towards her girls always trying to unite them as a family. She faces challenges in reaching out and encouraging both of her daughters, but she is determined to do everything she can to show both Jillian and Paige just how much she loves them. When Braden comes back into her life, he brings with him more than just an intoxicating and passionate love for Allie. He also brings a stunningly simple yet genuine love that encourages Paige’s artistry, compliments Jillian’s sensitivity, and highlights Allie’s beautiful heart. Braden is an equally incredible character who struggles with his past in order to figure out how to move forward into a future with Allie and her girls. More than anything he knows he doesn’t want to lose Allie again, but he knows that it is dependent upon whether or not her girls can accept him. He struggles with knowing that he has to lay his heart on the line despite what he has to lose but also hopeful for what he has to gain if things work out. Kimberly Krey never fails to truly amaze and captivate my heart with each of her exquisite stories. Each one of them has its own magnificent heart and soul whose light infuses into my life unlocking much needed encouragement and a deep appreciation for the precious gifts in my life. She has done it yet again with this heart stopping journey of a second change at a once in a lifetime love. What a powerful and life changing blessing that was showered upon those who assumed they would never have anything as precious and magnificent as a love like this! Don’t miss out on this sweetly passionate story that is sure to lift your spirit and lessen the ache in your heart.

Can I just say YUMMY.  This book was such a good, sweet, clean romance.  I love Krey's writing.  She makes such awesome swoon worthy men.  There is something about a cowboy, and a carpenter to boot that is just, well, yummy :). Allie is divorced and looking for a new job.  When Allie finds out that long time friend Braden is in search of a secretary.  Braden wasn't aware he was looking for a secretary though.  Braden's sister told Allie's mom that he needed a secretary.  It's the beginning of an awesome love story. Braden and Allie had sparks back in high school, but one of Allie's friends had called "dibs" on Braden.  First off, I think this is the dumbest thing ever.  I thought it when I was in High School and now that I have and had a High Schooler I still think it is the dumbest thing ever.  You cannot call "dibs" on a persons feelings.  You just can't.  Okay, enough of the personal pet peeve :). The chemistry between Braden and Allie was automatic.  I loved that they had been friends for years, but that he kept his distance from her while she was married.  Not because he wanted to, but because it tortured him to see her with his "best" friend, or any other man for that matter.  He loved her in High School, and now that she was back in his life, he has realized he never quit. I am not an insta love fan, but this was not insta love.  They had known each other for years.  They took their relationship slowly, even though feelings from old were still there.   Allie's ex-husband is a jerk.  Thankfully he was only in the book for a very short period of time, other than memories.  I don't think I could have handled more of him.   I love how the Allie's girls were part of the story.  Sometimes in romance novels when people have kids they get forgotten when the love story develops.  I am so glad this one did not do that.  In fact Braden's interest in the girls made him even more swoon worthy to me :). If you are looking for a sweet, clean, romance this is just the right book for you.  When I was almost done my daughter came out and wanted to watch a movie.  I told her I already was.  She just looked at me funny.  This story came alive for me, because Krey's descriptions of Allie and Braden's encounters were just that good!  Mmm...mmm...good :). Source:  I bought this book for myself.  I was not compensated in any way for this review.  These are my own PERSONAL thoughts on the book.

Kimberly Krey is an absolute amazing author who brings so much in her books! I have read several of her books and have been very pleased with them all! This author has been one of my favorite authors for quit some time now. And of course Rough Edge's didn't disappoint! Loved the story! Loved the characters! Allie and Braden have some what of a history from the past. But what will it take to make all the the obstacles they face fade into the past to be able to give love a chance? Can those obstacles become the past? What has been there that has made them not give love a chance? You will want to read this book to find out just what and how it all falls into place! *Received for an honest review*

I'm in love! Kimberly Krey has a magical way of weaving a tale of trials, second chances, and romance. Phew! The romance left me completely swooning. Allie is a divorced mom. She's been given a rough hand in life, but doesn't let it get her down. She does whatever it takes to move on and make a good life for herself and her girls. It's all she can do to make ends meet and when she hears that an old friend and local carpenter may be in need of a secretary, she's there trying to get the position. Little did she know, the chemistry that once existed between them, years ago, is hotter than ever. Braden is a never-been-married bachelor who's been burned a few too many times--by Allie. He's not interested in getting his heart trampled yet again by his long-time crush. He backed way off during Allie's marriage to his friend, but now she's free game. He's so sweet and is learning to fight for what he wants. I'm a sucker for a second chance romance and this one was perfect for my mood. I loved Allie's daughters and fell for Braden's charms right along with Allie. "If anticipation alone could kill a person, Allie might have died in that moment." Rough Edges is a fantastic combination of anticipation and action. I can't wait for more! Content: Moderately clean romance (talk of cheating, kissing, making out, fade to black between married couple); mild language; no violence; very mild religious elements. Clean for an older reader! *I received a copy in exchange for an honest review*
