The Royal Horticultural Society Pocket Address Book by Brent Elliott
The RHS Address Book for 2009 is illustrated with works from the collection drawings made by Chinese artists under the supervision of John Reeves (17741856). Reeves, an inspector of tea at Canton and Macao for the East India Company, sent a total of 755 drawings to the Society. The Reeves Chinese drawings were divided into two sets. One set consists of three folio volumes containing 127 drawings of camellias, chrysanthemums and peonies. The remaining drawings were grouped in five volumes covering a large variety of plants. The anthologies are from the RHS Lindley Library, acknowledged as the world's finest horticultural library.
Brent Elliott can reasonably claim to be the world expert on the history of Chelsea Flower Show. He is librarian and archivist to the Royal Horticultural Society and author of numerous articles and books. He has written introductions and captions to the RHS diaries (published by Frances Lincoln) since 1993.
