An excellent debut novel, I loved the story concept and with a little more polish, I would have given 5 stars. First the warning label should be a little more specific, non-consensual, BDSM themes and violence. This is a dark read and people should be warned. That being send the story has a lot of intrigue and excitement. The story grips you from the first pages and keeps you wanting more. The characters are excellent they really draw you in. There are some inconsistencies, either make it they are stuck in the past with no present day luxuries or totally luxurious both is hard to fathom. Sometime with descriptions, simple is the way to go. I want to imagine it in my mind, however, I don’t want it overly detailed and finally no repeats of info, I got it the first time. That said this is a great dark romance and I liked it a lot and am planning to read the second novel.

I hate rating a book lower then a 5. Because author's take work and time to make something great. But Im sorry this book did not make sense. If its in the OLD Dark times, why are there cars? I think they should have had horses and carriages. Some of the book mentioned old things before cars but yet there was a car? It made no sense to me. I thought the storyline was okay, I expected more sub and dom stuff but all it was about was sex and whore houses. The Castle is where they train the subs. The nurse is fake and she has sex with her BROTHER... yes her BROTHER. She then takes a sick womans baby and says its hers and her brothers. Like really? But they find out other stuff. SPOILER sort of:  This innocent girl is taken and trained as a sub and she falls in love with the prince's brother, and has a sick brother and asks to get set free to save him as the castle only has the greatest medical care...the girl gets set on her own and her father disowns her. Anyway he works hard and the mom drives her somewhere and leaves her. Anyway she has to walk to the other village, she ends up in a whore house and is not allowed to see the nightly festivities. Which is quite disgusting. I am not going to go on with the story. But I'm sorry, it makes no sense. So sorry I read this. Maybe if it shared more about the main characters and had a real time frame. I know its fiction but sorry not a good book. It's not even an erotica. It's more of a disgusting book. If you like incest and weirdness then go ahead and read it.

Love this book and love Diana Ames! This truly is an amazing story with so many levels of emotions. There is so much more to this book than what is in the description! So many surprises I was not expecting, the main being Anton's love for Mel. Sexy, sweet, and sometimes sadistic...Royally Trained is a MUST READ!
