Overview

When tuberculosis-stricken Rufio leaves his hometown of Chicago in the 1930s, he hopes the fresh air will help heal his illness. He is sent to live in rural Indiana with his Aunt Susannah and her Amish husband, Abel. Alone in a new place with the heavy stigma of his disease, Rufio fears there will be no one of his age to talk to. That is, until he meets a mysterious girl in the woods who calls herself the Countess and says she can cure him. But as storms mount and Rufio's symptoms become unpredictable, will the Countess be able to follow through before it's too late?
