Gr 3-5-Fictional children in the midst of biblical stories form the basis of these novels developed by Heritage Builders, a new ministry of Focus on the Family. Set during the time of Moses and the Ten Commandments, Ruled Out presents Ethan and his family, who remain true to the god of Moses even while others worship a golden calf. Eleven-year-old Andrew's father, Crazy Jacob, has been possessed by demons that Jesus then turns into swine. "Letters from Our Readers" in the back of each book provide a device for explanations (such as "What was manna?") and the location of the biblical story. Both authors have created lively adventure stories that will engage readers. Evangelical Christian values and the stories on which the books are based are obvious, but not overwhelming.-Crystal Faris, Nassau Library System, Uniondale, NY Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
