Summer, 1928, Rusty loses his job as a Lake Erie tugboat deckhand and can no longer afford his charter boat business. Out of work, out of hope and with a family to feed, he desperately turns to hauling grape juice for the mysterious Trapani clan despite his suspicions. After several successful trips, Al Trapani offers him an opportunity to run illegal alcohol from Canada. Rusty reluctantly agrees to try it just once.

As Rusty slips into the underground world of rum running, he comes to realize he is losing far more than his principles-he is jeopardizing his marriage and his life. But getting out is not easy. Hunted by a sadistic renegade Coast Guard captain, Rusty soon finds himself in the captain's crosshair, forcing him to challenge not only his principles, but his perception of good and evil.

The 1920s roar to life as Rusty's rum running legend grows.

As everyone is thinking of the best thing that happened to them in 2014 it is easy for me to decide after buying and reading Rum Run . After getting on board with Rusty and the author I was not able to lay the book down, it was a great experience. I am slowly recovering from the lack of sleep and my unstable sea legs that all boaters have experienced when riding in rough water. It was the most inexpensive trip that I have ever taken all the time wondering what was around the next corner or in this case behind the next wave. If you ever boated you will feel the wind in your face and hear the roar of the motors. See the splashing of the waves as you cut through them or the sound of rum being poured from a flask. The trip takes you to the highs (parties) and lows (death) of life which was so believable that I still think of the book every day. Hence as you read you experience every emotion and can’t wait to see what will happen on the next page or in the next chapter. The vast knowledge of the author and research that had to be done in order to write this book still amazes me. I got to ride with Rusty in the dark of night with the lakes dark rough waters when we did not know what is out there. Later we rode in perfect waters with sunny skies and flat waters that make boating such a joy. It speaks of survival in a time in history when many families merely wanted food for the table. As any time in history it has the haves and those trying to improve or merely survive which still exist in today’s world. This book was the most enjoyable reading that I have had for years.

Excellent Read I found this book to be misrepresented, it is labeled as a historical fiction but I found it to be more action, adventure. It's true that the author uses events that could have and did happen in the 1920's that make this story historical, but if you like action, adventure and suspense more your reading appeal Reed This Book!

Rum Run introduced me to a part of history that I didn't know existed and gave me a new appreciation for Lake Erie, it's islands and the area along it's shores. I couldn't put the book down. The story was rich and the characters had a wonderful depth. I felt I was along on the boats and in the restaurants and on the runs. Thank you, RC!

I am a Great Lakes fanatic. I needed a good read to get the holiday cobwebs pulled away. Rum Run was the order of the day. I am a Great Lakes sailor and well aware of the erratic weather of the shallow and western end of Lake Erie. I have visited most if not all of the ports, harbors and villages along the south shore. My emotions were swept up by the tales of what really went on during the prohibition years. There were so many twists and turns. I came away not sure of who the "bad guys" really were! Bravo! An exciting read and a trip down Lake Erie Memory Lane.

Great exciting story about Prohibition and the underground rum runners of the 1920's. The setting is in the beautiful Lake Erie islands near Port Clinton and Sandusky.  There's  everything from fast boats to fighting, corruption, love, families and much more to this fast pace book.  It is well written and thoroughly researched, the characters are blieveable and entertaining.  I highly recommend this book.
