Although a novel I really liked the way actual history was woven into this believable story. Kept my interest all the way through. Waiting for the next volume.

I love history and adding family story to makes it even more exciting. I have learned so much about history and World War II. I also love reading testimony building experiences and gospel principles

I loved this book! It was about a guy named Alex Thomas who is a Mormon missionary serving a mission in Germany at the time World War II breaks out so obviously, things don't go quite the way he planned. A family he was teaching, the Stoltz, became great friends with him and he started developing feelings for their daughter Anna. She would always tease the missionaries about their church until out of no where when everything seems to be going good, Anna becomes deathly ill. By some miracle, she is healed. But the world around them is not going so well. When Hitler declared war against Britain, it causes Alex to leave the country. While he is struggling to get out of the country, back at home, his family is having some issues of their own. Wally Thomas is a senior who is having a hard time. Everyone wants him to do the right thing but all he does is rebel which pulls him and his father apart. Bobbi Thomas is a college student who is very confused about love and what to do in her life. Rumors of War is a book filled of romance, trails, heart ache, drama, and also historic facts. It is very well written, the way the author switched through the different stories of each person but it also left you hanging and questions for a long time. I would recommend this book to everyone because it especially stresses family values, and shows how one family can stick together through thick and thin and work out their differences no matter what.

Interesting and great story... BUT several times throughout the book, the reader is left hanging when someone on one side or the other of the ocean seems to be in imminent peril! Very frustrating!!! Then this was one of those endings where you say, 'That's IT??' I'm not getting the 2nd one, because I fear there may also be things left unresolved at the end of it. Not the way to motivate me to buy the next-in-series.

I felt like I knew the characters, they were deep and had flaws and challenges. I found myself crying at times and feeling surreal when I put the book down and returned to 'real life'. I have read the first three books in the series and can't wait to finish the rest.

Reading about the Thomas Family is one of the best things to sit down and do. The characters seem so real and you can feel all of their emotions with them. An excellent series and I would recommend it to anyone, LDS or not.

I have never read such a great book! I have heard that the other books are even better! All of my friends and some of my family are reading them too! The author makes everything so perfect and real. And if you are an LDS member, then you will definately feel the spirit while reading it! Its touching, funny, and you really get to love the characters! I don't know of a better author!

This is one of the best pieces of historical fiction I have ever read. The characters seem like real people. Rumors of War is set during the time that led up to World War II and it shows all the uncertainty of life for the regular people. The characters drive the story but you pick up a lot of history as well.

'Rumors of War', and all the 'Children of the Promise' books, are by far, the best books I have ever had the pleasure of reading. I read the first three books in less than a month. READ THEM!! -A 14yr old girl-
