Overview

At age seven Gabrielle is thrown from a nurturing environment with English-speaking foster parents, into one of chaos and poverty with her French-speaking mother. A language barrier along with the frequent moves caused by her mother's neuroticism and deteriorating health, create a family fraught with mistrust, hatred and violence. Eventually the Mother's irrational behavior reaches a pitch that leads her children to seek freedom from her control.
