Russian Mosaic is the true story of a young girl from a Russian mining town above the Arctic Circle, whose coming of age is marked by tragedy and hardship, but ultimately survival. She spent her childhood and college years under the structured control of the state. With always a bit of rebellion for the lack of freedom and self-expression, she learned to "play along" to get by. As a young adult, she witnessed the fall of communism and the Soviet Union, and with it, the change of lifestyle for all Russians. The daughter of a miner father and an accountant mother, Olga endures a number of ordeals that would have broken others less resilient. From the untimely passing of her father, and through a variety of early life experiences, she learns from her mother not to rely on others, but to be self-sufficient and to make her own way in the world. She not only survives but succeeds and writes with the hope of inspiring other women who face adversity in life.

About the Author

Olga Kane is an exciting new author, making her first appearance on the American literary scene. She grew up in the mining city of Vorkuta in northern Russia during the time that the former Soviet Union was under the Communist regime. Her family faced numerous hardships not just from subarctic climate, but also from the criminal atmosphere surrounding a coal mining city which had its beginnings as part of the Gulag, the forced labor camps in the 1930’s. After her dark days in Vorkuta, Olga thought when she relocated to St. Petersburg to attend University she would begin a wonderful new chapter in her life. However, in college her struggles continued as she lived in a world of violence and sexual predators. In 2000, following perestroika and the fall of the USSR, Olga once again saw the opportunity to start anew. She emigrated to America, this time with dreams of freedom, happiness and success. In the United States Olga worked as a hair dresser and kept her clients entertained with her real-life stories of growing up in Russia and how she was able to leave in order to find a better life. Through the years, many of her clients encouraged her to put her story in writing and share her amazing life with the world. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia.
