Overview

Bobby Roland can’t catch a break.

Less than a week after Bobby takes on the mantle of Servitude—a position granting him the ability to exorcise demons from the possessed—he finds an envelope taped to his door containing an intimidating note and a picture of a strange woman. When a shadowy figure is abducted off the sidewalk down the street from his house, Bobby can’t help but wonder if it’s her.

Bobby may not be ready to drive out demons, but that doesn’t put a damper on his desire to help those in need. With the aid of his friends and a new supernatural ally, Bobby sets out to find the woman and free her from her captors.

Little does Bobby know he may have bitten off more than he can chew…

Reviewed by Rosie Malezer for Readers' Favorite Sacrifice is the second instalment of The Chronicles of Servitude by J.S. Bailey. With Graham Willard’s contract being so unceremoniously terminated by the evil Nate, Jack Willard takes the reins. Sitting in a bar, Jack notices a woman, Adrian Pollard, enter and sit down beside him. Before long, she tells him of the children she’d abandoned when they were just babies. At the mention of one particular name, Jack’s interest is suddenly piqued. After Bobby Roland is handed the mantle by Randy Bellison as the new Servant, working directly for God to exorcise evil spirits from the possessed, he suddenly realizes how terrified he is to face his own inner demons. A mystery envelope is taped to his front door, containing a picture of a woman and a confusing message. When he receives a telepathic warning that somebody outside is in danger, he runs to the front of his apartment, only to witness a woman being kidnapped in a white van. On his return, he finds another envelope taped to his door, mocking him. Determined to do whatever it takes to find and save the woman, while facing his evil deeds of the past and saving those possessed, Bobby finds himself in over his head. It will take every bit of inner strength, discipline, and trust in God (and His messengers) to get through his mission alive. J.S. Bailey’s ability to tell a story which gets the adrenaline pumping is remarkable. I enjoyed that a book of such a serious nature also had the perfect mix of humor to balance it out, making Sacrifice a book that you simply do not want to put down. From the first page, the story is action-packed and fast-paced, not leaving out a single detail. It is interesting that Bobby felt such an inexplicable pull to find the kidnapping victim without knowing who she truly was. J.S. Bailey filled in the back story of each character beautifully, making it easy to understand how they had reached where they were without the need to read the first book. Few authors can pull off such a feat, showing what a talent J.S. Bailey has in delivering such incredible stories in a believable fashion. I recommend this book to those who enjoy their supernatural tales served up with a good dose of action, fear, drama, humor, and unconditional love.
