Excellent historical fiction. Does a great job of setting out the conflict in the Elizabethan era between the Catholic and Protestant churchess and the political implications throughout Europe. Of course, perhaps even more importantly it is very entertaining - interesting characters and a great plot with a surprise ending. I highly recommend it and look forward to catching up on the earlier books in the Bruno series.

This is the third in a series of books featuring 16th century ex-monk and spy Giordano Bruno. It is well plotted and well paced and a very satisfying read. Looking forward to the next one.

This was another great book. Her ability to weave the story's multiple linkages and tie them together in a completely satisfactory manner, sets her apart from here peers. I too can't wait for the next one.

I enjoyed every sentence: Religious history mixed with Church politics (capital C) and a murder mystery...to be solved by the former monk who pines after the accused (but manages to remain objective).

What another really good book by S.J. Parris. I loved her first book "Heresy" and this one stands up to that excellent standard. If you like the murder mystery genre along with 16th Century History including that ennoble Giordano Bruno then you will most certainly enjoy this book.
