I was immediately attracted to the concept of this book and I am pleased to report that it lived up to all my expectations and then some. The story and artwork are absolutely enthralling.  Safari Honeymoon is more than a graphic novel, it’s part wackiest biology textbook ever and part safari guide survival/training manual. These other two components lend such credibility to this fantastic and surreal tale. The characters (un-named) consist of the wife, the husband, and the guide.  All 3 have unique personalities and quirks that were developed quickly. In addition to the 3 people, of course we have the “character” of the jungle and its surreal inhabitants.  The monochromatic green color palette is effective in drawing you deeper and deeper into the mad jungle and safari.  All the artwork is stunning, mesmerizing, and imaginative. The guide is oddly hilarious (at times, at least to me) but in a very subtle way.  He just casually shares matter-of-fact information with the husband and wife to let them in on the hidden mystery, truths, and danger surrounding them. As a side note, I must lead a sheltered comic/graphic novel reading life because this is the first time I encountered a couple having sex between the pages. Although the couple is on their honeymoon so this is to be expected ;)  Thankfully, the smooching scenes were very tasteful and any subsequent nudity was also very tasteful. The ending definitely surprised me and I liked Safari Honeymoon quite a lot.  There’s definitely lots of things to think about during the read and afterwards.  by isniffbooks[dot]wordpress[dot]com Disclosure:  I received a complimentary PDF review copy from Koyama Press.  The opinions are my own.
