Overview

Safe Stardom is the perfect insiders guide for every parent with a child pursuing a career in the entertainment Industry, and can be read on many levels. It starts with the story of one mother and son, how they made it in Hollywood, and how, in the process, they changed the entertainment industry. It is also an invaluable tool and resource for parents and children wanting to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. It distills a tremendous amount of information that is helpful to parents and their children-information that the author, Robert Pafundi, has learned over the course of more than a dozen years as a talent agent, talent manager, and entertainment lawyer.  Safe Stardom offers helpful advice concerning entertainment contracts, especially contracts involving talent agents and talent managers, and contains more than two dozen provisions that commonly appear in such contracts, along with commentary about the purpose, benefits, and drawbacks of different contractual provisions. However, Safe Stardom is much more than a book about entertainment law. It addresses a wide range of issues that relate to protecting our children in Hollywood, including protecting them from overly aggressive paparazzi and other predators.  We all have a stake in protecting the children who work or aspire to work in the entertainment industry and this book will be one of the most valuable tools any parent could have.

This book is a must read for any parent wanting to prepare and protect their child for working in the entertainment industry. Even if you don’t have a child that fits into this category, it’s a fascinating look inside the field of representation and contract law. The book is meticulously laid out, with easy summarization at the end of each chapter, and some case studies that would probably make for a harrowing made for television movie. One couldn’t help but admire the dedication and hard work attorney/author, Robert Parfundi, has put forth in helping to change laws that protect all children in the entertainment industry. – Kathy J. As the mother of two child actors, I find that this book has given me an education that I thought I already had by virtue of being involved in the business for almost 7 years now - but without a wonderful resource and guideline like this book, even the most experienced will find themselves prone to the pitfalls of Hollywood. Often being blinded by the hope that someday your child will finally get their "big break" will leave you vulnerable to exploitation if you don't understand how to navigate the world of contracts, agents, managers, commissions, unions, profit participation and everything else that is attached with the "business" part of "show business". The information in this book is crucial in order to protect your child once the success they've been dreaming about comes their way. The book is extremely well-written, is concise and easy to understand, and I thank the author for providing his legal expertise, knowledge of the industry, as well as the account of his precedent-setting case involving a child star and his mother in order to form this truly unique book (written by an entertainment attorney and former talent agent and manager, no less!) that informs and educates parents on industry matters that I honestly have never seen covered anywhere else when it comes to kids trying to make it in entertainment. It should be a required read!

As a 5th grade teacher, parents constantly ask me how I can get their children involved in the entertainment business. This book has phenomenal insight into what it takes to protect children in the entertainment business. I will absolutely recommend this to parents of my students, and to friends who have children trying to become actors.

Lots of great info, yet an easy read. I learned about many aspects of the business that most are probably not aware of.  I especially liked learning of common pitfalls that can easily be avoided.

I highly recommend this book to anyone in the business. I have three acting children, and I sure wish I had this two years ago when they first started acting as it would have saved us so much time, money, and headaches. "Safe Stardom" is an easy, yet incredibly informative read. Highly recommended!

One of those books that is irreplaceable. My work is in the music side of entertainment. And we have experienced the difficulty of crafting the right "deal" and ethical (and legal) contract with a non-adult star (or up-and-comer) personally. Pafundi - from our exploration of legal expertise out there on this not well known subject - is lawyer #1 in the US with respect to child stars, the author of this book, literally "wrote the book" on the subject with his experiences and years protecting child actors and musicians. No higher praise can be given. Safe Stardom is from the horses mouth. If you are interested in protecting a child entertaining the entertainment business, or if you are simply interested in the subject, there is no better source of information than this book. Highly recommended.

This book is an excellent resource for parents of young actors. I am an adolescent psychologist working in Los Angeles and have worked with several children trying to make it in the entertainment industry. I will be recommending this book to these children and their parents.
