Chapter One

Hi! I'm Safety Dave, and this is my best friend, Daisy.

Daisy and I want to share with you what happened to our friend Tommy who was bullied today. We want to tell you about him because he is really sad, and we don't want it to happen to you or anyone else.

Tommy told us how he was bullied when he was on the playground. He said it made him feel sad and left out by some kids he thought were his friends. He said they teased him and made him feel uncomfortable, unsafe, and lonely.

Hearing Tommy's story made us concerned, so we wanted to learn more about bullying. Daisy and I went to the library to research this topic. We learned a bully is a person who repeatedly makes another person feel uncomfortable or unsafe. Bullying can be a lot of different things such as name calling, pushing, teasing or kicking. Daisy and I both agree bullying is bad and we'd like you to help us stop it.

Tommy said these friends have done this to him more than once – even in the hallways at school. Daisy and I don't want you or your friends to feel this way. By sharing Tommy's story, you can help us stop bullying too!

There are some things we can do to help prevent bullying. Tell a parent, teacher, or trusted adult when bullying happens. At a time when you feel comfortable and safe, you should ask the bully to stop and explain that he or she is hurting your feelings.

Bullying is a problem that impacts many kids every day. We all need to work together to stop it.

What could you do to help stop bullying on the playground, bus, school anywhere?

After I learned my friend was being bullied, I asked Daisy if this could happen to us. Daisy shared with me that bullying can happen to anyone and even to the bully.
