ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Kathy Steel is a writer and actress who lives at the New Jersey sea shore. While growing up, she spent her summers making fudge on the Atlantic City boardwalk, at her family's business, Steel's Fudge, which has been in operation since 1919. Several years back, she developed a series of plays which taught children about life in our oceans. When "Sally" made her debut, numerous people commented that they didn't know starfish are now called "sea stars." Young and old enjoy learning this little-known fact and Kathy thought it was time to tell the world. Kathy also substitute teaches, which she really enjoys. Sally's character, who seemed to float through life without really knowing who she was, hit a nerve with the author. Perhaps she could she help children who didn't feel as though they "fit it" as well? Kathy certainly hopes so!
