About the Author

I am a creator of worlds and a destroyer of words. As a fantasy writer, my works range from traditional epics to futuristic fantasy with starships. I have worked as an unpaid Little League pitcher, a cashier, a student library aide, a factory grunt, a cubicle drone, and an engineer--there is some overlap in the last two.

Through it all, though, I was always a storyteller. Eventually I started writing books based on the stray stories in my head, and people kept telling me to write more of them. Now, that's all I do for a living.

I enjoy strategy, worldbuilding, and the fantasy author's privilege to make up words. I am a gamer, a joker, and a thinker of sideways thoughts. But I don't dance, can't sing, and my best artistic efforts fall short of your average notebook doodle. When you read my books, you are seeing me at my best.

My ultimate goal is to be both clever and right at the same time. I have it on good authority that I have yet to achieve it.

I am a Firefly fan and it reminded me of that with some rather interesting characters who are not human. This was a short introduction to the futuristic setting, political situation, and characters. One big change from Firefly and some similar stories is that in this universe they use tech and magic which makes for interesting possibilities. I will definitely comtinue this series. Hope the next is a full book!

I picked this up to read on the plane for my overseas vacation. Didn't have high expectations, but was I ever in for a surprise! What a quirky cast of characters! It took awhile to figure out just who and what each crew member was, but the story was a wild ride. I enjoyed the new twist on gravity and how it is controlled. Captain Carl makes you cringe at first, but he grows on you. I can't imagine being on the same space ship with an ex-spouse, but they manage to pull it off. I liked the story so much that I bought the next four books. Thankfully, they are available in a boxed set! If you are a fan of Lindsay Boroker's Fallen Empire series or Simon Haynes's Hal Spacejock, you will enjoy this book!
