About the Author

Madonna Jervis Wise has been an educator and writer for all of her adult life, beginning with a newspaper column in her hometown newspaper called the Cougar Beat. Professionally she writes federal, state and foundation grants for a variety of public agencies and nonprofits. She is also the author of numerous counseling/educational curriculums and professional journal articles. She authored a comprehensive recipe book, "Juanita in Blue", to honor her mother's culinary prowess as a pie chef. She developed a bulling prevention book with daughter, Rachel, entitled "Kachina and the Bully," and lovingly penned a book about the Great Depression, "Wildcat Creek Kids." She also wrote "Welcome to the Dude Ranch" for a major online school as an eighth grade test preparation course thematically centered around her own American Quarter Horse, Lark, and her love for anything equestrian.
Madonna believes strongly in roots and relationships. She is a product of a rural farm life in the Midwest. The influence of the small town atmosphere shaped her adult life. She credits her remarkable family as the inspiration of her life. Madonna's books center around historical fiction and preserving memories. If you know Madonna and her love of kids, horses and history, you recognize the quote she has posted in her office that typifies her philosophy on life.

"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away." -Henry David Thoreau
