When Priana Grey walks into a bank, she isn't expecting to be taken hostage by a violent thief; nor, is she expecting Detective Joe Cafaris to offer his life for hers. The stepdaughter of fallen angels of the Sanctum, she has concealed her true nature to move among humans for years, but Joe's courage astounds her. Although she knows that falling in love with a human is a disaster, she just can't ignore what she feels.
Joe is a tough loner, cool in the most dangerous situations, but he's not ready for the scorching desire he feels for Priana. He has a million logical reasons to walk away, but his heart wants something else.
Priana's stepbrother, Keirc, warns that she'll find only misery with Joe, yet he guards a perilous secret of his own. His lover, Iridea, is the daughter of Sebastien Galaurus, a ruthless vampire who leads the Demesne, a powerful supernatural haven quite unlike the Sanctum.
When a stunning crisis forces Priana into the heart of the Demesne, a maelstrom explodes in the shadow of supernatural havens on the brink of war, where fallen angels, vampires, weres and daemons call the shots and humans are viewed as critically frail - a place where men and supernaturals can die.

Reviewed by Melinda Hills for Readers' Favorite Priana Grey is not the usual bank robbery hostage in this engaging story about the presence of supernaturals in the every-day world. Sanctum Angels Shadow Havens Book 1 by Edenmary Black explores the good and the bad of the supernatural world and the interaction of its various members with the human world. After Pria is rescued by detective Joe Cafaris from a crazed bank robber, neither of them can deny strong feelings for one another. The fact that she is half angel and half vampire creates certain obstacles and draws the concern of Pria’s stepbrother who keeps a close eye on her. He has his own secret, though, and an age-old conflict between his parents and his girlfriend’s father brings everyone together in a fight for their lives. The desire to dominate leads to a battle between the Sanctum, Pria’s home, and the Demesne, the home of the supernaturals who prey on humans, leaving Joe and Pria in a desperate situation. Edenmary Black has created a modern world with supernatural beings of pure and mixed backgrounds living close to humans. Priana Grey is a supernatural who wants to live and work among the humans, and the story creatively blends the needs and abilities of the angels, daemons, werewolves and vampires with the realities of every-day life. Entertaining and exciting, the story is full of sub-plots that allow for all the characters to become real and have their own very special parts to play as the action unfolds. Complete in itself, Sanctum Angels is a great read but creates the desire to follow the lives of the characters in upcoming volumes.
Is praising the cover art of a novel appropriate in a review? Well, I am-because the art of Robin Ludwig Designs is simply stunning, awesome, and truly gorgeous! That said, let me add, I am so totally glad this is first in a series, and that Book 2 will soon be coming our way! The pacing is very rapid, and the setting reminded me more of fantasy rather than just paranormal. Since there are different species here-vampire, daemon, angel-I think it is not amiss to consider this a fantasy as well. I easily found myself turning the pages without really being aware of doing so, as I was so caught up in the story line. I really enjoyed this juxtaposition of paranormal species, and thought the author marvelously explained the various talents, dissimilarities, and other characteristics of each, building up the background in a subtle way without needing to bludgeon the reader with information. What the reader needs to know about each just flows naturally as part of the plotting and characterization. Intriguingly, there is no question about suspending disbelief; the reader just automatically accepts that here are vampires, over there are daemons, and elsewhere are angels; and that sometimes the groups mix, sometimes not, and then additionally there are humans. Not everyone can carry off this suspension of disbelief but author Edenmary Black does it most excellently. At no time did I need to stop and anchor myself to real life, because I was so engrossed in her story. I’m definitely anticipating Book 2 in this series because I’m sure it will be just as captivating as the first novel.
Edenmary Black has delivered a top quality, exciting new book of paranormal romance that is sure to please any reader and leave them begging for more. I found the level of adult content and sexuality to be just enough to titillate the imagination, without adding undue vulgarity or violence. The romance is delightful; including two trysts between the loveable characters, Priana Grey and Joe Cafaris, as well as Keirc and Iridea. The dreaded villain, Sebastien, is despised by this reader, but leaves me begging for more of him. I’m looking forward to future books in this series and will read them all! The writer intertwines the dark and extremely different worlds of vampires, fallen angels, and humans into a delicate social network that is held together by a thread. The relationships between Priana (daughter of a fallen angel) and detective Joe Cafaris (unsuspecting human) and Keirc (son of fallen angel) and Iridea (daughter of Sebastian, the ruthless vampire and leader of Demesne), could end in disaster when worlds collide in this novel. I don’t want to spoil the ending for the new reader, but rather advise you to grab this book and ENJOY!
