About the Author

"Ilona Andrews" is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.) They have co-authored two New York Times and USA Today bestselling series—the urban fantasy of Kate Daniels and the romantic urban fantasy of The Edge—and are working on the next volumes for both. They live in Texas with their two children and many dogs and cats.

I received a free copy of SAPPHIRE FLAMES (A Hidden Legacy Novel) by Ilona Andrews in exchange for an honest review. It’s been almost three years since the Baylor family was named House Baylor; they’re all at the end of the three-year grace period before coming under fire from the competing houses. During that time, Nevada worked ceaselessly to secure funds and favors for her family. In fact, she worked herself into a collapse. This alarmed her family to the extent that they voted in bylaws to prevent Nevada from contributing anything to her family’s security. All money and favors earned by Nevada are now strictly Nevada’s. Because Nevada could no longer assist House Baylor, she stepped down as the head of the house and appointed Catalina, who orchestrated the family action, to take her place. Once again, House Montgomery drops a difficult case on Baylor Investigations. Despite the danger, Catalina takes the case because of the three cardinal rules established by their father. Alessandro Sagredo keeps popping up, interfering, and otherwise annoying Catalina. Can Catalina solve the case? Will House Baylor survive? Desperately attracted to Alessandro, Catalina is determined to save him from her powers. Amused, Alessandro doggedly pursues Catalina. This is the beginning of the Catalina and Alessandro courtship. No, I’m not going to tell you what happens. I enjoyed all of the books published under this name. I was thrilled to be given a chance to preview this novel because I adored the Nevada/Rogan books. I recommend this book to fans of Ilona Andrews, to fans of supernatural romance, and to fans of urban fantasy. #SapphireFlames #NetGalley

Ilona Andrews heats things up with SAPPHIRE FLAMES (Hidden Legacy #4). In this story, Head of her House/Prime Catalina Baylor investigates the murder of a friend’s mother and sister. Concurrently, she is trying to figure out the motives of her teenage crush Italian Prime Alessandro Sagredo. This contemporary urban fantasy is suitable for adults. Catalina and Alessandro first met when the Baylors were applying to become a house. Alessandro was Catalina’s judge. The two have sizzling chemistry. We discover more about Alessandro. He is not what you would expect. I love how much Catalina has grown since the series started. The once shy girl is becoming a worthy leader. I like that she is coming into her own. She is developing into a strong heroine with good values. I enjoyed the plot. It was mysterious with numerous twists. The politics involved with the houses are interesting. SAPPHIRE FLAMES is a thought-provoking addition to the Hidden Legacy series. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series. I recommend this book to fans of crime mystery urban fantasy. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

When I first started Sapphire Flames, I was a little nervous about the narrator switch from Nevada to Catalina. But I ended up absolutely loving that we got a new perspective. Catalina is a very similar to Nevada but it was fascinating to see how their shared experiences shaped them differently. Plus her power was so much fun to learn more about. The incredible family dynamics were still there and there was way more political drama than previously (because of the time jump, this novel takes place right after House Baylor's grace period runs out). And the romance!! I can't wait until we get more of Catalina and Alessandro, I just love the two of them together. There isn't much I can say about their romance without spoilers but I can't wait to find out what happens next. Sapphire Flames is a fantastic new addition to one of my favorite series. I'm so glad that we're getting more in this world and I can't wait for the next installment. *Disclaimer: I received this book for free from the publisher. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I was very excited to get this next installment in the Hidden Legacy series by Ilona Andrews. I knew I was going to miss Nevada, but was interested to see how Catalina took on being the Head of House Baylor. Catalina is not only Head of the House, but also the one heading up the investigation office. Sapphire Flames jumps right in with the introduction to the mystery. Catalina must save a young man from himself and because she knows his sister, she ends up taking on the case of who killed their mother and sister. As the story goes on, the more complicated things get. Including Allessandro Sagredo. He has been a teenage crush Catalina had, but he is definitely not who he appears to be on Instagram. Catalina also struggles with her feelings for him. She is so scared of her magic affecting his feelings toward her, she doesn’t believe that his flirting is real. Catalina definitely lacks some confidence in her abilities. The relationship between Catalina and Allessandro was fun and reminded me a lot of Rogan and Nevada. Those Baylor women are stubborn! Allessandro is quite the character and I really fell in love with him. He is great for Catalina and I can’t wait to see how their relationship is going to progress. Sapphire Flames was fast-paced and exciting. The Baylor’s are hit with one thing after another and Catalina must really evolve to keep them above water. She does a lot of changing and ends up with obligations that I’m interested to see what affect they have later in the series. I was a bit disappointed with the ending. Now I’m even more anxious for the next book because I just can’t see how the overall story arc is going to work out. Especially with Allessadro and Catalina’s relationship! We do get to see some of Nevada and she hits everyone with a surprise. I was excited to see that and so glad she wasn’t left out of the story altogether! If you haven’t read the previous books in the Hidden Legacy series, I think you would be fine picking up here. This takes place over 3 years after Wildfire, and details of the world and family are filled in well. Sapphire Flames is a great start to the next story arc for the Hidden Legacy series!

Baylor House Prime, Catalina Baylor has been afraid to use her unique powers, but she will risk her reputation and safety to help her friend unravel the mystery when her friend’s mother and sister are murdered. Powerful forces are at work behind the scenes including Alessandro, her teenage crush and his motives are unclear, but he’s drawn to Catalina like a moth to flame. She will have to test the limits of her extraordinary powers, but doing so may cost her both her house and her heart. The Hidden Legacies continue in House Baylor as Catalina steps up to the plate and becomes the Head of the House and in this astonishingly powerful book, she shows readers that she is more than capable of being as ruthless as she needs to be. Readers loved Nevada and her die hard protection of her family and everything they had and they can’t help but smile in eager anticipation to discover if Catalina has what it takes. Well, the story starts off with excitement and continues to be a non-stop buffet of action, suspense, gripping emotions and snarky wit. And to spice things up even more, Catalina and Alessandro have a push- pull relationship full of sizzling chemistry and readers just know that they would be great together but this relationship has quite a few obstacles standing in its path, not the least of is just where Alessandro stands on the whole good or bad issue. This fast paced plots keeps readers hanging on to every word with lots of thrilling suspense, adrenaline pumping action and extraordinary magical battles that has readers’ eyes flaring wide open and gasps escaping in amazement as Catalina asks one question to many and finds herself caught up in a whirlwind of danger and deadly assassins. There’s no way to put this powerful, heart-pounding read full life altering twists down once they have begun.

I do feel that you need to have read the Hidden Legacy series before starting Catalina Baylor’s story. Based on the previous series, we know that Catalina is the new Prime of the Baylor house (her older sister Nevada has married and joined a new house). She has been classified as a Siren, which is a form of Truthseeking. Catalina is also the new head of the private investigation firm that the Baylor family owns. They have a new case – the death of a previous character’s (a friend who happens to be a modern day Poison Ivy) mother. With an old crush of hers, Alessandro, who is more than he seems they work together to solve the murder while building alliances and learning new things along the way.

Catalina has really grown into her power, even though her comfort level is still a work in progress. And that’s a good thing, because it helps keep her grounded in why she’s doing what she does. She’s analytical, has a huge heart, and is fiercely protective of those she loves. She’s a serious person, but her sarcastic sense of humor was contagious. Alessandro...he’s a sexy devil, with a liquid tongue and irresistible allure, but his magic kept me on my toes in surprise! His ability had me shaking my head in wonder... He’s a total package and I can’t wait to see what he has up his sleeves! I also loved his silly antics with Catalina, especially when paired with her crazy, but loving family. Talk about comic relief! The romance takes a backseat to House dynamics, but believe me, it’s stewing to a steaming boil! Catalina and Alessandro’s romance is a very slow burn (the attraction established during Catalina’s trials), but I really wasn’t expecting the sheer force of their chemistry in action! These two may seriously give Nevada and Rogan competition in the combustible department ;) The first book in a spin-off series from Hidden Legacies, I believe it could be read as a stand alone, but you’ll miss out on family dynamics and house politics, which give the story richer perspectives. Catalina’s book was a fast-paced, humorous, sarcastically-quipped, action packed with House warfare, and thought-provoking read... I loved it and happily skipped the lull of sleep just to finish! I voluntarily read and reviewed an arc from Avon/Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Warning! Review lacks objectivity. Four and a half stars. Loved it, loved it, loved it. Catalina is now head of House Baylor, she gets brought in to bring a suicidal Prime down using her siren powers and gets drawn into investigating the death of his mother and sister. From the get go things don't seem to be on the up-and-up, then Catalina's teen crush Alessandro Sagredo turns up being less Eurotrash billionaire heartthrob and more deadly assassin (albeit a very sexy Italian one). Soon House Baylor is embroiled in yet another mystery, all of our favourite family members have a part to play but the star of the show is Alessandro, I just love the way he keeps appearing on Catalina's bed, lolling like one of Shelly Laurenston's vain lion shifters, especially when he finds the heart-shaped glitter picture frame that Catalina's sisters filled with a picture of him from his instagram feed LOL. I know I'm biased because I think I've read everything Ilona Andrews has published but I thought this was just great, I loved the plot and the romance and the mystery and I can't wait to see where the series goes next. (view spoiler) Overall, it was worth the wait, I read it in less than a day and I love Ilona Andrews just as much as ever.

This was so good! I got sucked into this book and couldn't put it down. I want to reread it already. Catalina is now head of House Baylor. She is working a case for Runa, the poison mage from Diamond Fire. Along the way she teams up with Alessandro, her teen crush. They uncover new dangers and secrets, and kick a lot of butt. Catalina has grown so much since Diamond Fire. She is no longer the scared and shy girl trying to find her place. She has accepted her abilities and uses them to keep her house safe. Alessandro is complicated and surprisingly deadly. He has so many layers that it's hard to know which is the true person. I can't wait to see where their relationship will go after this. Overall, this was everything I expected from an Andrews book and I can't wait to see what Catalina will do next. *ARC provided by Netgalley for an honest review.*

I am so glad the Hidden Legacy series isn’t over. I love this world. I loved Nevada, Catalina is just ok to me. I don’t dislike her, but she’s not exactly fun to read. But that is ok. It’s great that her personality is totally different from Nevada because that means this series cannot be formulaic. Alessandro is also very different from Rogan. Him, I like. He’s wild but also is a man of mystery. I was also happy that the rest of the family and friends were as much a part of the story as the first three books. I am eagerly anticipating the next book in the series. Especially since Alessandro seemed to notice some other connection between Linus and Catalina. I need to know what it is, now.

Sapphire Flames is Catalina & Alessandro’s first book. The action is edge of your seat exciting and the kissing is toe curling. The characters are likable, relatable, believable, and entertaining! The dialogue banter, fight scenes, side of romance, & bad vs. good is everything that I look forward to when reading an Ilona Andrews book. Just enough detail to suck you into the world but not enough to bore us action junkies. Also, I really like how the story ended! Definitely looking forward to the next book!

My goodness people. This book, I don’t even know what to say except it was so good. It is a mystery, fantasy romance with flashes of humor and I was just left wanting more. Alessandro and Catalina just left me with so many feelings. If you like mystery or fantasy or romance I think you should give Ms. Ilona Andrews a try. The primary characters are so complex but entertaining. The secondary characters entertain as well and I love Grandma Frida. I look forward to more books in this series and I really need to read her other books. I think if you read Sapphire Flames that you will agree that this is great entertainment and this author put in the work. I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.

As usual, I like the Hidden Legacy world, which is my second favorite of the Ilona Andrews worlds, after Innkeepers. The HL world gets a little more fleshed out in this book, which the blurb indicates is going to be the first of a trilogy. I was a little nervous beforehand about a story focused on Catalina, and one where she somehow has become the head of House Baylor, but in the end the storyline works. I got hooked on finding out what was going on, and finished it the same day I started it. (Luckily, I started it on a weekend…) I thought the character development was also pretty good, with the exception of the transition of the House Baylor leadership from Nevada to Catalina. The explanation for this comes part way into the book, and it just seemed a little forced to me. Still, it didn’t derail me from the story for too long, and in the end, it wasn’t a major issue – just a little bit of a hiccup. I like the way Catalina’s character has developed. I especially like the way she relies on the House Baylor rules (once you have a client, stay with that client; try not to do anything illegal; have to be able to look yourself in the eye - NOTE: these are not spoilers since they are in the earlier books…) in making some of her choices, even while developing as a quite different character than Nevada. I guess my only major disappointment is that this is apparently the first of a trilogy, and so although there is a conclusion to the main plotline, the story arc is left somewhat hanging at the end. And, since I very much enjoyed this book, I’m bummed that I am going to have to wait for books 2 and 3 of the series to find out more about how things really turn out. Finally, just a bit of guidance – if you haven’t read the earlier titles in the HL series, you’ll probably want to read them first. Although you could probably make it through Sapphire Flames without the background from the earlier books, I think it will be a lot more enjoyable with the background. NOTE: I received a review copy of this book from the publisher and Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

Just buy this book. Buy, and read it. It's so good, Ilona Andrews just gets better and better with every new story, and Sapphire Flames is no exception, I read it in one sitting. Worth every penny, and the ending will leave you on a dangling hook over a 30 story building.

Sapphire Flames was a riveting, action packed, adventure that has joined my favorite shelf and be an often re-read. If you’ve been following the Hidden Legacy series, you know the Baylor family has decided to become an official “House” and now Catalina has taken the reigns as head of the house. Catalina is called upon to answer a debt owned by her family. During this act, she discovers that the person she is helping is someone who had protected her family in the past and she isn’t about to let them fall fodder to House warfare. Backed by her family, Catalina does what she does best, she starts to obtain information. Information that will put her and her entire family in the crosshairs once again. Information that brings her teen crush crashing into the situation. The only problem is finding out whether Alessandro Sagredo is friend or foe. Catalina knows for certain he’s so hot he makes her knees weak and he is VERY, VERY dangerous. I absolutely love the Hidden Legacy series. I would be THRILLED if the writing team of Ilona Andrews gave us novels for every member of the Baylor family so switching the focus from Nevada to Catalina just gave me more of what I love… amazing and relatable characters, fantastic humor, pulse intensifying action and chemistry you can’t wait to see play out! I mentioned re-read, FYI, I finished Sapphire Flames and then started from the beginning and already re-read the entire series again from the start because I just can’t get enough of the Baylor Family. Lets face it, if the writing team of Ilona Andrews writes it, I'm going to be reading it! I received an ARC copy of Sapphire Flames from HarperCollins-Avon. This is my honest and voluntary review.

I love the writing team of Ilona Andrews, but I wasn’t sure this series would live up to Nevada’s part of the Hidden Legacy series. Boy, was I totally wrong. Catalina is a very controlled protagonist. She’s afraid of how her magic will destroy people by making them love her. Fear makes her calm, cool, and collected. However, when Alessandro bursts back into her world, he works hard at tearing down her walls. And, when he succeeds, whoa! Add to that a fascinating plot about monsters, assassins, and murder, this book adds up to a great time. Totally engrossing from start to finish, I did not want to put this book down. The ending was just the piece de resistance: I have to have it now. Unfortunately, I have to wait with my heart broken and torn to pieces. Why, you ask? Read this to find out. I highly recommend this book! I was provided the e-book which I voluntarily reviewed.

Thanks to the authors for hosting a contest on their blog. I won this advanced reader copy through that contest, but am still providing an honest review. I wasn't sure how I was going to like this book, what with Nevada and Rogan's three book story shifting focus in this one to younger sister Catalina and the Italian stallion Alessandro. The novella in between, which was the first to star Catalina as the main POV, was decent, but not as good as the first three books. But let's be honest here, it's Ilona, and we all know that everything Ilona writes is gold or close to it. They didn't disappoint. At all. This one was a thrill ride through a new world, or at a least a world that's different than Nevada's. Catalina is now head of House Baylor, she's out of the closet as a Prime Siren, and she's a few years older - three years have passed since the novella. The House is running smoothly, and Nevada and Rogan have gone on a trip to Europe (for Rogan family business), so Catalina is really given the opportunity to shine in this novel, without the "oh, let's depend on Nevada" mentality, for her and for the readers who are still adjusting to the POV shift. And I'm glad of that. Turns out, Catalina is just as interesting as Nevada. She's deep, has insecurities and strengths, and is pretty effin' badass. And Alessandro isn't just a pretty playboy either. All in all, we got a good case, deeper character views, and a whole lot of fun with magic powers and danger. 5 out of 5 stars. Duh!

FANTASTIC! I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed the first in this new arc of the Hidden Legacy world. With Nevada safely married to Mad Rogan we get Catalina’s story. Catalina is a siren and can make people love her till they want to love her to pieces so she has to use her powers carefully. Catalina is now the head of House Baylor and their grace period is coming to an end. Thus starts a high energy romp that will keep you enthralled. The excitement is non-stop. Action, adventure and love. Can’t wait for the next installment.

Sapphire Flames is a brand new trilogy set in the world of the Hidden Legacy series. Catalina Baylor, sister of Nevada Baylor, is a Prime, and after the marriage of her sister to Connor Rogan, Head of House Baylor. When a friend of the family needs House Baylor’s investigative services Catalina takes on the job. As the head of her house, every decision she makes could alter their future. When she starts investigating she puts her family’s welfare on the line, and when her teen crush Alessandro Sagredo becomes involved it’s not only their lives, but her heart that is also on the line. If you read Diamond Fire, the novella set between Wildfire and Sapphire Flames, we were given a taste of who Catalina would become and in my opinion she surpassed all of my expectations in this novel! A few years have passed and Catalina is not the same girl we met in the previous novels. She has hidden depths and with each new reveal she became more interesting. When Alessandro Sagredo shows up he turns up the heat and that image of the younger Catalina disappears completely and we realize she is really all grown up. I’ll admit that I was worried a little bit about Alessandro. Rogan is such a hard act to follow that the Italian Alessandro seemed a little smarmy in comparison. You know how I mentioned that Catalina has hidden depths? Well Alessandro is even more full of surprises! Smarmy? No! Yummy? Yes! He turns out to be one dangerous, yet sexy package and his interest in Catalina was en fuego! Since this is a trilogy, we are given peeks at the depths of their feelings for each other. There are two more books in this series for all of their mysteries to be revealed and I will be one of the millions that is eagerly awaiting the next installment! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I received a free copy of this ARC through NetGalley and the publisher for my honest review and it was honest!
