Amy Lillard in her new book, “Saving Gideon” Book One in the Clover Ridge series published by B&H Publishing Group takes us into the lives of Gideon Fisher and Avery Ann Hamilton. From the back cover: “Are you all right? You had a wreck.” “My whole life is a wreck. Where am I?” Gideon Fisher wants one thing out of life — to be left alone. That is not the Amish way, but he’s devastated after the death of his wife and son to the point of losing his faith. He has pulled away from the community. But when a sudden spring snowstorm brings a beautiful Englisher to his remote farm, what choice does Gideon have but to let her in? The Amish farmer who pulls her out of the snow and into his austere lifestyle intrigues Dallas socialite Avery Ann Hamilton. Poor little rich girl, she has just gone through another bad breakup. Every man she meets only really wants her father’s money. All she has ever wanted is to be loved for who she is. Avery soon discovers the Oklahoma Amish country is the perfect place to hide out and heal her broken heart. But there’s a peace in those back roads that she’s never felt before. Now her life has purpose and meaning as she connects with God and those around her. Yet there’s something more as she begins to care for this man who needs both love and forgiveness. Gideon never wanted to live again much less fall in love, but Avery finds her way into his heart, showing him the beauty of life and spirit. As feelings between the two grow, can they overcome their sheer differences, or will those differences pull them apart? “Saving Gideon” is a gentle romance of two individuals who need each other but do not know it at first. Both Gideon and Avery have their unique issues of pain and loss and it is difficult to trust and try again when you have been through what they have been through. Ms. Lillard gave us a rare treat to experience how the two of them come to realize their need of each other and start their healing. This book is a wonderful adventure filled with great characters that we have come to love and root for. “Saving Gideon” is a beautiful story about never-ending hope and faith in God that He can work out everything. I liked this book I think you will as well. Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Wynn-Wynn Media. I was not required to write a positive review. This was a wonderful book by Amy Lillard. I loved the characters in this story. Avery learns to begin to take things in a quiet way. She was raised with a silver spoon but was not really happy. Here in the land of the Amish Avery learns to relax and learn to trust in God. Gideon learns to live again. I received a copy of this book from the author for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

Saving Gideon captures your heart from the very beginning! This wonderful book by Amy Lillard is the first book in the Clover Ridge series. Gideon Fisher has all but given up on life, until he meets Englisher, Avery Ann Hamilton. He rescued her from her car and saved her life that one snowy night in Oklahoma. Gideon allows her to stay awhile at his home. Avery is delighted and tries desperately to thank him. After all, he did save her life. But, was Avery the one who really needed the saving? You will want to be sure to check this book out to find out the rest of Gideon's and Avery's story-Amish and English. Amy Lillard is an amazing author! The characters experience circumstances that we can all relate to, including guilt, depression, hope, love and forgiveness. You will feel like you are right there with them in beautiful Oklahoma! I am really looking forward to reading the second book in the series. Saving Gideon is a must-read!

A tender and sweet story written the way only Author Amy Lillard can write with truth, honesty and real-to-life emotions. Saving Gideon will keep you wondering who is saving who! Avery Ann Hamilton, a rich socialite is stranded in Clover Ridge, Oklahoma Amish country where she discovers a life so different from her own. Gideon Fisher blames himself for the death of his wife, Miriam and son, Jamie and has basically given up. Will the woman with grape gumdrop eyes help Gideon see life as worth living again or will Gideon help Avery (whom he calls Annie, after all being named after an address label just doesn’t fit) find a purpose? Can two people from very different backgrounds discover common ground and will their families give them the freedom and support they need. Amish fiction lovers as well as Christian romance fiction lovers will want to check Saving Gideon out!

Saving Gideon pulls on your heartstrings and doesn’t let go! Gideon is barely making it through the day since his wife and son were killed during a storm. He has no interest in life or doing more than going through the motions….until the night of a late season snow storm. A beautiful, young socialite crashes her little sports car very near Gideon’s farm. She is injured and there is no one around to help. Being true to his Amish faith and ethics, Gideon brings the woman into his house to assess her injuries and allow her to get warm. Thus, a love story for the ages is set in motion. Avery Hamilton is tired of her shallow existence that revolves around money and finds living in the Amish community a wonderful respite. Gideon, much against his will, finds himself falling in love with her. A heart wrenching and heartwarming story that you won’t want to miss. Ms. Lillard’s characters are created to find their way into your soul and stay nestled there long after you finish “Saving Gideon”.

I love this story, rich meeting the poor, but not really, Avery, aka Annie, was born with the preverbal silver spoon, Gideon he is Amish and lives plain. Oil and water, not quite, but one is running from a failed love, and the other wanting to die from loosing his family. A car accident brings these two together, but all the while you will see God’s hand in their lives, they are so very different, but are they? What a kind man Gideon is, and I could just watch them eating the first meal Annie cooks, and he is so trying to be nice. I can just see God sending this woman and nudging Gideon, he is not done with Gideon yet, and wants Gideon as a productive member of society. Of course Gideon realizes that Annie isn’t Amish, yes one can pretend, but he has to come to terms of loosing his life or embracing the woman he is learning to love. These two have to come to terms with their relationship, if there really is one, and how it can never be, but maybe they can find some happiness in their lives, but with each other? A very quick read, that I really didn’t want to end, but there are two more books in this series. I received this book through Net Galley and B & H Publishing, and was not required to give a positive review.

They were from two very different worlds…..Avery “Annie” Hamilton and Gideon Fisher. Annie came from wealth and lived the life that went with it in Dallas, TX. Gideon…well, Gideon was Amish. He was a member of a small community in Clover Ridge, OK. Their worlds met by accident…literally….on a snowy night. Annie had gone to OK to surprise her fiancé only to be the one surprised by his unfaithfulness. With tears in her eyes and snow coming down, she lost control of her car and ran off the road and into Gideon’s field. He thought he’d heard a horn blowing and went out to investigate. That’s when he found a pretty Englisher with her head leaning on the horn of the car. Annie’s wounds needed healing (not just the physical ones) and Gideon needed healing in his heart. His wife and only child had drowned during a storm and he just didn’t want to go on living without them. He had sold their family farm and separated himself from his community and church. Read this well written story to find out how they helped each other. It’s a beautiful story of friendship, forgiveness, healing, love and finding their way back to God. Even though I’ve read this book several times, I have never been ready for it to end! Thank you Amy Lillard for a wonderful read!!

Saving Gideon is the first book in Amy Lillard’s Clover Ridge series. I loved this book! The writing was remarkable as well as the Amish details and character development. But what sets Amy Lillard’s books apart from the rest is her romance. She takes two people from very different worlds and with just looks, touches, and words creates a love that is so sweet and leaves you wanting more. I would recommend this book to anyone.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the premise about a spoiled rich girl invading the life of a man with broken dreams and a hurting heart. Gideon didn't know what to do with Avery/Annie I enjoyed the journey they had discovering each others lives, hearts and dreams.

I loved the story because it reminded me of our world today where so many are on opposite ends of the spectrum but through listening to one another came understanding, respect, and love for one another.

This was one of the best Amish romances I have ever read, and I have read over 150 of them!  The story had me hooked from the first page and  it was hard to put the book down.  This was the first book I have read by Amy Lillard and now I'm off to read anything else Amy has written.  I  hope that Amy keeps writing Amish romances as she has hit it out of the park with Saving Gideon.

Can Love Prevail? This definitely is a 5 star book and that is just what it is getting from me. This in not your typical Amish fiction book. I am sure once you read this book you will agree with me. I loved the main characters Gideon Fisher and Avery Ann Hamilton. God's timing leads Avery to the simple life that she needs and to a hurting Amish man who has no reason to go on living. Gideon just wants to be left alone. The spunky Avery isn't about to let that happen. There is more to this book than just a great entertaining read. The reader sees that God's hand is on both Gideon and Avery. Will Gideon learn to live again? Can he trust and forgive God? Can he forgive himself and learn to have faith again? Will Avery find peace and happiness in this Amish community? Will she discover the love God has for her? I have found a new author to add to my list. I might add that I am happy that I did. I am looking forward to Amy Lillard's next book, Katie's Choice.

"Saving Gideon" is an awesome book... First thing I can say about it is WOW . It is a very good read. "Saving Gideon" is a beautiful Amish romance story of bringing two difference characters of two difference worlds together and learning to trust God . Avery Ann Hamilton is a rich socialite from Dallas. She left one night and decided to surprise her fiancé by telling him she would marry him right away. She got to this back woods country of Clover Ridge Oklahoma where he was staying in this motel. She opens the door, finds him with another woman and enough to know he only loved her for her money. Poor little rich girl. Avery leaves the motel and drives in this spring snowstorm. She can't see anything. She runs off the road into a field and the car flips over and over. She lays her head over on the steering wheel and the car horn blows... Gideon Fisher is an Amish farmer who has lost his wife and son in an accident about a year ago . He has lost the will to live ,love again, and to serve his God. Gideon just wants to be left alone. One night he was outside and heard a car horn blowing.looking around and sees a car out in his field. He finds a beautiful woman in nearly nothing laying over the steering wheel . What was he to do?? To far to go for help.. Gideon gets Avery and her Louie V. sweet little Yorkie back to his house. Avery is in no hurry to go anywhere . She has no car and she just want to hide out from everyone for a while. There is some feeling beginning between the two. Gideon thinking now what will the Elders do if they hear of an Englisher woman staying with him?? Annie is the name Gideon starts to call her, is not ready to leave this simple life.. Annie is beginning to care for Gideon, but she has been hurt so many times before .. Can she trust another man . Will Annie help or hurt Gideon ? Can she help him to see his way back to God ? Can a rich girl from Dallas that is use to the rich life ever live a simple life? Gideon knows he should let Annie go..Will they both listen to God to find the right way. Can the two from difference worlds find their way? You will absolutely love this book as I did. If you love Amish and romance books you will love this book with The Amish and Englisher .Don't forget Katie's Choice book 2 in The Clover ridge novel series will release May 1, 2013

Loved this book! This is the first book in the Clover Ridge series and in it we are introduced to two characters from extremely opposite ends of the spectrum of society. Gideon is an Amish man who suffered a horrible loss when his wife and son died. He is struggling with his faith, withdrawing away from his family and Amish support and basically waiting to die so that he can join those he loved and lost. Avery is a rich socialite, stuck in a world of trying to please her father and has yet to find someone who will love her for herself, not her money. At the beginning of the book, we learn that Avery caught her fiancé cheating on her and realized that he was also just after her father's money. She wrecks her car in a snowstorm and Gideon rescues her. This is how they meet. It is just the beginning in a very captivating story. I had trouble putting it down. Both characters change and the love they begin to feel for each other is sweet. Amy Lillard develops the characters so well. I enjoyed watching them grow to love each other and wondered how it could all work out in the end. But it did, and was an extremely enjoyable journey.

This is the first book I have read from Amy Lillard and I enjoyed it greatly.  The first thing I have to say is, I was amazed there are Amish in Oklahoma.  I love it! Love that someone has written a story about it.  Secondly I want to say I really liked this book, Amy Lillard is very skilled at storytelling.  One thing that I noticed is that the setting is a new setting for an Amish story, and I mean more than just being in Oklahoma.  I cannot remember reading an Amish story where a wealthy Englischer ends up staying with an Amish widower.  While it seems a bit implausible, I am finding that the Amish are as different as we are, so anything is possible.  A great story, and I look forward to the next book in this series.  4 stars!  This book was provided for review purposes only and no payment was received for this review.

Posted on Romancing the Books blog / Reviewed by JoAnne / Review Copy Provided by the Author / This is a contemporary novel that is Christian based since the story revolved around Gideon Fisher – his life, his Amish beliefs and how that molded how he lived his life – even though he had fallen away after heart wrenching circumstances. The writing was remarkable along with the character development. The descriptions of Gideon’s life and those of the other Amish in the community, both family and friends as well as their interactions with the Englischers made me feel as if I was there – living without electricity, cars, phones and other comforts that I know. The descriptions of his farm, their clothing and his family’s devotion to God was inspiring along with how neighbor helped neighbor. How the author had Avery, known as Annie to the Amish, find her way to fit amongst them as they lived and also able to turn her back on her glitzy, rich life in Texas while she was in Oklahoma amongst the Amish was remarkable but also believable. It was also heartwarming to see her work to get Gideon to believe again in all the Amish ways and bring him back from the brink of despair. I am not always a fan of Christian or Inspirational books nor of those about the Amish although I do read them occasionally. This was a book I not only didn’t want to end but also read slowly to be able to savor each word as well as visualize what I was reading. I was hooked from the first page to the last and was glad to see the letter at the end that was a sort of epilogue and gave better closure. There was a presumed happily ever after but I am glad to see the series will continue so I can catch up with Annie and Gideon and his family again. This was such a well written novel. I liked the dictionary at the end of the book and also that several recipes were included from meals that were described. Give Saving Gideon a try, you’ll be glad you did. Favorite Quote: “…Annie, this is a meal to stick to your ribs.” She giggled, and he noticed the start of a line of freckles across the curve of her cheeks. “Annie?” she asked. The name had slipped naturally from his lips. To him she seemed much more an “Annie” than a sticker label. “Jah.” He nodded to back up his decision. “Annie.” And her smile grew a little brighter. “I like it.”

Accidental Changes! Two very different worlds collide when an accident catapults Avery Ann Hamilton into Gideon Fisher's world. Avery has lived her entire life in a world of wealth and high society. After discovering her fiance in the arms of another woman, Avery became lost in a blizzard. Unable to see the road in front of her, she lost control of her car and crashed into a field in Amish country. Gideon has suffered unthinkable loss, the accidental drowning of his wife and young son. Leaving the farm he shared with his beloved family Gideon has sequestered himself from his Amish community, waiting and hoping for death to take him too. The sound of a car horn honking alerted him to the discovery of Avery, unconscious and slumped over her steering wheel. Gideon carefully removed her and her little dog from the wreckage, and brought them to the safety of his farm. What will the Amish community think when they discover Gideon's young Englische house guest? Gideon is still consumed with grief and guilt, unable to move forward with his life. As Avery recuperates she has numerous questions regarding the Amish and their simple lifestyle, and begins to appreciate the peace and quiet of the farm. Can two very different people find peace and harmony with so many overwhelming differences? Amy Lillard takes a very different approach in her Amish fiction novel, "Saving Gideon." Her characters are from opposite ends of the spectrum, one extreme to the other. Avery is transformed from a minimal faith life to a yearning for the love of God, and through the German bible, develops a strong faith. These charming characters are lovable and personable, yet stubborn and one is particularly resistant to change. The unlikely blending of an Amish man with a very Englische woman is questionable, but as the story develops, Avery begins to take part in the Amish ways and Gideon tries to ignore what he can, and tolerates what he can't.  I loved the story of Avery and Gideon, and highly recommend it! I'm looking forward to the sequel to see what is in store for Gideon's family!    Disclaimer: For the purposes of FTC compliance, I hereby state that I have no vested financial interest in this book, and I have received no monetary compensation from the author or publisher.
