Scandal on Half Moon Street by Vivian Roycroft

All the Honorable Anne Kirkhoven wants is to be wrapped in the arms of the man she loves, Frederick Shaw, Esquire, barrister, solicitor, writer of the best Gothic romance novels in England, and surely a future Member of Parliament. But despite Frederick’s many perfections, Anne’s mama has forbidden her to speak with him, much less marry him, and until Anne attains her majority, all they can do is wait.

But now the most notorious duke in the ton, Ernst Anton Oldenburg, the First Duke of Cumberland (and some say a foreign prince), is making a public point of assessing her… attributes, sending shivers to portions of her anatomy she’d rather not name. Who’s the right man? And will her reputation survive the Duke’s assault long enough for her to find out?

When I saw this cover, I had to read the book. I'm so glad I did. Ann Kirkhoven is desperate to marry the man she loves. Her mother is against the match. Frederick Shaw is not good enough for her daughter. Forbidden love - the best conflict in a romance. But this one was made all the better in the form of the handsome Duke of Cumberland, Anton Oldenburg. Of course Ann's mother can't very well refuse him, but the duke has alterior motives that endeared him to my heart. I won't spoil his role or what happens, but this book was a page-turner! One I'll definitely read again!

A young couple of differing social stations wish to marry but the lady's mother will not consent. Nor is she the only impediment to the match when the scandalous Duke of Cumberland begins showing an interest in the young debutante. The young couple are soon questioning the depth of their feelings for one another, while the young lady alone ponders whether the duke's interest is real or merely a foil for his true intentions towards her. The plot keeps you guessing for a while until you realize the true secrets hidden within the duke's heart. This is a sweet Regency tale about discovering if the path you've set upon will lead to true happiness or just leave you pining for what may be obtainable in the future but presently beyond reach.

Based on previous reviews, I was expecting a good, quick read. Very boring. Way too wordy about unimportant details. Light on a plot. Plan on deleting this book. Not worth the storage space.
