Overview

A Scandalous Wife by Ava Stone

As the head of his family, Robert Beckford, the Earl of Masten, was accustomed to dealing with various problems his siblings had caused of one sort or another. However he wasn't prepared when his cad of brother ruined and then abandoned a young lady. To right the wrong, Robert married the girl himself; but his chivalry only went so far. He didn't want a wife, and most certainly not a scandalous one. So after repeating his vows, he sent her packing, off to a secluded estate and expected her to stay put.

After years of mistreatment at the hands of her family, Lydia was prepared to be an accommodating wife; but her rigid and unforgiving husband asked too much of her. After languishing for years in her opulent prison, Lydia leaves her country estate for the glamour and excitement of London-and unfortunately her husband's path.

This is an outstanding Regency period romance and one of the best I've read this year. It does deal with subject matter that some might find offputting, but it is handled in such a way that I could never see the heroine as a tragic victim because her soul is truly beautiful and her heart is that of a lioness. Her husband comes to view her as something quite extraordinary and redeems his character well before the book's conclusion. I immediately downloaded all of the other titles in this series and can't wait to read them.!

This is the best series I have read in a long time. I bought all the books in it and was caught up in them so quickly I read all of them in less than a week. I hope this author continues to write more like these.

I love the twist on this Regency romance. Definitely a fresh and fun take in a traditional setting. I loved it, and I definitely recommend it!

Was well written, but Eva needs a new editor. So many errors slipped thru and it drove me nuts. Distracted me from the story. Lydia's strength was credible and it was sweet that her husband fell in love so quickly. A good twist at the end.

This was a very intriguing read. It does have some harsh topics (rape/incest) but the author did a good job of keeping it low level and not overly done. The romance is fabulous between the 2 main characters and all of the hiccups that occur kept the storyline interesting. There were a few grammatical errors throughout, some of which makes the reader have to pause to figure out what was meant to be said, but it did not detract a lot of the story.

Expected more "spunk" from the heroine; the storyline was okay; it didn't draw my interest to continue the series if there is one.

I really enjoyed this first book in the Scandalous series, it kept me wondering almost the whole way through. I especially liked the length of the book, so I couldn't finish it in one sitting and have nothing to look forward to. Even still it was hard to put down when it was sleep time. I liked the characters in the book a lot, and am looking forward to reading more in this series. I recommend this book, loved it!

How low a bar do we have when reviewing these books? Headlines like 'Excellent ', 'Best Series ' makes me want to ask the question "As compared to what? " Convoluted storylines with poor diction and editing? This is a close resemblance to the above mentioned convoluted storyline. I don't have a problem with the incest part of the story. After all; we might know people who might be affected by it; we might not know that part of their lives. Three stars for a well edited though haphazard novel.

It was really good book but......................................................... Spoiler alert---I'm not sure if this is a true spoiler but the subject of incest is an intregal part of the book.  Its not my favorite subject to read about.   I probably would have skipped the book had I known.   That said I did think it was well written and did like it.  Its just the incest thing creeps me out.
