Rough start, but interesting take on vampire mythology My Initial Reaction...  Scent of a White Rose got off to a rough start for me, with quite a few eye-rolling moments, but redeemed itself big time in the second half. I still have some things that seem a bit ridiculous to me, but overall, I really enjoyed this different take on vampires.  The Narration...  Stephanie Bentley did a good job narrating Scent of a White Rose. The voices were distinct and had personality. I wasn't blown away, but it was a solid performance. The one thing that bothered me was the way she said the names of characters when the point of view changed. It was super airy, like she was trying to sound very sensual, but instead it made me laugh almost every single time.  The Characters...  Rose is a really immature, naive 20 year old. And that got on my nerves a bit. At one point I thought she was also incredibly stupid, but thankfully I was wrong on that count. Her mother was killed just 6 months before the start of Scent of a White Rose and her father is being understandably protective. Sure, he's going a bit overboard, but Rose's reaction to his protectiveness felt very immature. I think this threw me off because I went into this expecting an adult read, but really got a young adult one, complete with teenage angst.  The other element that felt really immature to me was her relationship with her boyfriend, Christian. These two are talking about loving each other, but every time they're together it's just "let's makeout." Don't get me wrong, I'm all for some sexy goodness, but that's lust. Y'all don't talk enough to be in love!  The Story...  What I really really liked about Scent of a White Rose was the unique take on vampires. We get a pretty neat origin story a good ways in that I enjoyed and they are very different from your typical vampires - but still recognizable as vampires (they drink blood, don't go out during the day, etc). I particularly liked two things the most - (1) only one vampire in a line has the ability to sire (i.e., create) new vampires at a time and once they lose that ability it takes time for a new sire to rise. (2) Vampires drift between light and dark --- intense emotions can trigger the drifting, which is manifested in a change in appearance to darker features --- but true darkness manifests in the way they treat their prey and is policed.  The vampire mythology really pulled the story along for me, because the actual plot for Scent of a White Rose was FAIRLY predictable. I say fairly because there were a couple of twists that I didn't see coming from the get-go, but once certain plot elements happened, I ended up seeing them before the characters did too. I had one frustration - there's lots of points of view in Scent of a White Rose, which is fine in general, but sometimes the timeline was all over the place. You'd be with one character tonight, the other character tomorrow morning, back to another character still tonight, and then it's morning again, back and forth. That was irritating and a little hard to keep track of at times (especially since it happened most towards the end when everything was really happening).  Concluding Sentiments...  Although the characters weren't my favorite, I found the vampire mythology really fascinating and the potential story line established in Scent of a White Rose is intriguing enough that I plan to continue with the series.

I was given this book free in exchange for an honest review. Rose Reynolds, a young woman who's mother died mysteriously is in love with Christian. They both have their secrets. Christian is a vampire. Under the rules of the coven, he cannot let Rose know what he is, but unbeknownst to him she already knows. Rose still lives at home with her father while she goes to college. Since her mother's death, her father has kept an extremely tight leash on Rose (she must be home by dark, her father's driver takes her everywhere etc). She and Christian can only meet occasionally due to these restrictions, but she has the help of her friend in order to make these meetings happen. Life continues this way while Rose chafes under the rules of her father and unknown to the coven, plots to become a vampire so that she can be with Christian all the time. I like the twists that Tish Thawer puts on the vampire legends. The way that she built this story line was very well done. There is plenty of suspense as the coven is placed in danger due to demon blood. There are many steamy scenes so this book is definitely not for younger readers

Book 1 obviously! I loved how the story was written with different point of views. You get to learn about each character which I thought was pretty cool. Rose the main character falls in love, has to deal with her mothers death and worry about school a over bearing father and throw in a mystirious demon. This book had me reading like my life depended on finishing it quickly. On to the next book!

When you start with a sweet, human, and college-aged heroine who meets her "soul mate" (him being a hot and considerate vampire), you have the beginning of Scent of a White Rose by Tish Thawer. This is my first book by this author and have to say it was hard to put this book down (only did because I had to go to work). It is apparent to the reader that when humans and vampires are involved, there are secrets that need to be shared but not always as planned. This book definitely is the foundation for the rest of the series with plenty of interesting secondary characters who slowly reveal their own motives and secrets. There are some twists on the vampire lore in this book and like that the author added different characteristics. Am happy that I aleady purchased books 1.5 and 2 - book three will be out in September 2012. Highly recommend this book and can actually picture it in a movie format.

From the moment I started reading, it drew me in and kept me to the very end. I can't wait for the next one to come out in March. I normally don't like these types of stories or movies as they all seem to be the same old thing. This one is truly different and keeps you enthralled every moment. I am very impressed with this book, and the author. Tish has done a wonderful job with this storyline. Loved it!

Just when you think vampires have been done in every way possible in the literary world ….Tish Thawer comes flying in with a whole new paranormal world with vampires and demons! Vampires are good, they have clans, they have powers, they can turn dark…everything about Scent of a White Rose was such a fresh new concept when it came to vampires, actually it was just a whole new concept in general for the paranormal genre! This is a read any paranormal lover should read! Scent of a White Rose had an amazing storyline, one thing wrong with YA novels these days I feel is their predictability. I would say about 70% (maybe more) YA novels I read I can always figure out what is going to happen next, I know the authors try hard to make things suspenseful, and a mystery, but in all honesty a lot of them fail at it. This does not mean I don’t enjoy their books, I still do..but when I come across a book that kept me on the edge of my seat and biting my nails over what was going to happen next and left me literally shocked at times, you know it’s a good read. The characters were all very likeable too, although I must say I wish I could’ve gotten to know some of the ‘not so main’ characters. I am hoping throughout the rest of the series we will learn more about them, as far as the main characters go I really liked them. Rose was a likeable girl, I loved how independent she was, and how she was figuring out things all on her own. Most heroines have help (a lot of help) putting the pieces together, but Rose mostly did it all on her own! It gave me tons of respect towards her as a character. Christian I loved, I thought he was well first off he sounded like he was really sexy, which is always a plus, he was very protective of Rose, and you could really tell he cared for her tremendously. I also liked seeing how much he cared for his ‘family’ (other vampires in the clan), most books focus a lot on the romance aspect of love, it was nice also seeing how much he and his clan cared for eachother, not just how he felt about Rose. I really did love Rose and Christian and a few of the other main charcters, but I think my favorite was Jillian, Roses best friend, and the only reason for her being my favorite is cause I feel I connect with her and outta all the characters she reminded me a lot of myself, which was nice! Overall though Tish has put together an awesome cast! When it came to the romance I really loved how it was different than most YA books also, the point that Scent of a White Rose starts at, Rose and Christian have already been dating for a while. This was weird to me at first since normally YA novels start out with the girl is alone and then meets some mysterious guy blah blah (you all know how it goes), at first I didn’t like the fact that we didn’t get to really read about the process of Rose and Christian falling in love, but the more I got into the story the more I liked it, it was kind of nice skipping the beginning of their relationship, it was deff a new experience reading it, and yet another way Scent of a White Rose is a fresh new take in the YA world. Overall, this book was such a great read. If you’re looking for a new paranormal romance read and one that is more on the mature end of YA with awesome characters, then look no further! Scent of a White Rose will have its readers on the edge of their seat, and leave them dying for book two!

I am not very good with words to give this book justice, but Tish Thawer knows how how to grab a reader from page one!

Tish Thawer's debut novel, Scent of a White Rose, is a great mix of romance and mystery. You have a love story between Rose, a twenty year old college student and Christian, a 602 year old vampire. Yes we've read this love story a thousand times but this one has twist to it. The vampires in this book are a little different than the usual vampires I read. I like that each author has their own take on the creatures or I would be bored out of my mind with them. Tish's vamps are light vampires, which means they are good but once they let their emotions or hunger take them over they start to drift. Meaning that they turn darker; their eyes and hair get a darker shade and sometimes appear black. But once they get their control back they drift back to their normal or light coloring. When I was reading this description it made me think of dark Willow in Buffy the Vampire Slayer when she got all dark and veiny looking. Everyone has secrets that they are keeping from their friends and loved ones. There is mystery that surrounds Rose's mother's death. As the plot unfolds we get answers to this mystery and others. But of course this only brings up new questions for the future books in the series. Tish leaves just enough of a cliffhanger to make you want say, "UGH! I need the next book". Scent of a White Rose is not the plain Jane girl meets vampire and falls in love story. I'm not going to tell you much more about the plot but I will tell you that you should add this book on you TBR list.

Rose is a young woman who is trying to cope with the sudden death of her dear mother. Tired of being treated as an innocent young girl and being under her father's constant vigilance, she seeks refuge in the arms of the dark and mysterious vampire Christian. His identity has been kept a secret from Rose while he waits for the day to reveal himself and share the gift of immortality with his true love. But Christian isn't the only one with a secret, Rose has a few of her own that will put their love to the ultimate test and forever change their lives. I was drawn into Rose and Christian's story from the first page. You won't find any sulking or brooding blood drinkers here, instead we are introduced to a new hierarchy of light and dark vampires who live among humans by concealing their identities, while following a code of ethics among them. Rose is a admirable heroine, even for her young years. She's had her share of tragedy and never lets that stop her from trying to live her life to the fullest. Rose is sweet, smart, outspoken and a character you can really identify with, I love her optimism and determination. Christian, her love interest might look like a bad boy, but he's quite the gentleman and romantic. His love for Rose is pure and will stop at nothing to protect her, what more could you want in a hero? Christian is the perfect leading man, he's sexy, protective and loyal, he'll have you wrapped around his finger in no time with his chivalrous ways! Another character that really made an impression on me was the vampire Terrance. He's mysterious, dark and definitely a tortured hero who has lost his way but still has some good in him, I can't wait to learn more about his character in future books. In Scent of a White Rose, Tish Thawer crafts a seductive vampire tale with her eloquent writing style and keen sense of romance that simply entrances! The story line of vampire guy falls in love with human girl might sound familiar, but don't let that deter you from getting your hands on this book. The author's take of the vampire myth is fresh, exciting and engaging. Scent of a White Rose has all the essential elements of a paranormal romance: a suspenseful plot that will keep you on edge, solid characters, a beautiful love story and a climactic ending that will leave you begging for more of Rose and Christian! A great beginning to a promising new series by a new and gifted author you won't want to miss.

This is the first book in a brand new series and I couldn¿t put it down. The author Tish Thawer weaves an amazing tale of vampires, love, lost, and secrets. Rose is a 20 year old college student who has lost her mom due to a freak accident. She was killed by a vampire Rose thinks but the truth is a lot more difficult for her to accept. Her dad has gone in total over protected mode due to the loss of his wife and it¿s driving Rose crazy. She has to sneak around to see her boyfriend Christian who is a vampire. Christian doesn¿t think Rose knows his secret and he¿s not allowed to tell her or feed from her since he¿s in love with her. But what Christian doesn¿t know is that Rose knows his secret and wants to spend eternity with him. This is a definite page turner so be prepared to not be able to do anything while reading this amazing book. Tish Thawer is a new author to keep your eye on. Her books are going to be the next great thing. The story line and characters a fresh and new. Yes it is has vampires in it but Tish makes them different than any another book I have read in this genre. If you want an amazing love story filled with sexy vampires, secrets, and a plot that had me going WHAT?! Than you need to read this book ASAP.
