Overview

"The staged narratives and the personal portraits are modern masterpieces of the photographic world" Erza Magazine

Schude celebrates a decade of work by the prolific LA photographer Ryan Schude, whose vast tableaus and vivid portraits encapsulate pop Americana in a way that has resonated with audiences worldwide. Schude's work combines humor "both light and vivacious and black as night" with extreme skill and a film director's eye. In Schude, he discusses the intricacies of his work, and the personal stories behind his stunning catalogue.

With a foreword by Zac Pennington (Portland Mercury, Vice, the Quietus), and an introduction by Davy Rothbart (GQ, New York Magazine, This American Life)

About the Author

Ryan Schude received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration before heading to the San Francisco Art Institute for photography. After a few years shooting freelance and a brief stint as photo editor, Ryan moved to Los Angeles where he currently lives. His inspiration is constantly fed both by his immersion in the vast locations around L.A, and the strong creative network he's established there. His work continues to gain fine art recognition around the world and has been shown in Picnic in Mexico City, Madrid Modern Gallery in Spain, the Mouvement d'art Public in Montreal, Liberation News in France, and Disfruteconpoco in Chile. Ryan Schude's work is large scaled, detailed and highly produced with an incredible amount of detail. He has developed a style that not only pushes the boundaries of the still photograph, but also tells a story at the same time. Schude s scenes capitalize on a feeling of energy caught at its climax the ultimate fictitious decisive moment - giving them a sense of frenetic energy and complexity that makes the viewer want to explore every nook and cranny in the scene.
